Chapter 21: The Pitiful Junior Sister

~7 min read 1,276 words

Pang Brother, if you're worried about this, I'll go talk to Dan Sister about it.

Xiao Tong smiled sweetly, her lively eyes seeming to glow.

Pang Zi couldn't say anything else either: "Thank you, Xiao Tong…"

"Pang Brother, no need to be formal, we're good friends."

Pang Zi gave a hollow smile and said: "Yeah, friends."

"As a good friend, I've done you such a big favor, Pang Brother—I have a question I want to ask you…"

Pang Zi already knew this girl was up to no good: "What do you want to ask?"

"How's he been lately…"

Xiao Tong murmured, her originally lively and clever eyes suddenly deepening a bit.

Upon hearing that, Pang Zi's mouth also showed a hint of bitterness—oh, the sin!

He, who had thoroughly read half of the Chen Family Annals, did not answer directly.

Instead, he first asked back: "What do you think? Do you hope it's good or bad?"

"We broke up peacefully, so of course I hope he's doing well. I heard his parents… he must have taken a big hit, right?"

Pang Zi's mood grew heavier—what peaceful breakup? Chen Ci just got bored and went looking for new prey.

This girl is a prime example of being led astray until she's lame.

In a normal breakup, who hopes the ex does well? Especially not better than oneself.

Pang Zi also had to reorganize his words: "The blow is huge, the changes are huge—I'm finding him harder and harder to understand."

Xiao Tong obviously grew anxious: "Then…"

Pang Zi shifted his tone, trying to stay light: "Don't worry, Xiao Tong, he's been doing fine lately. Not long ago he found another girlfriend—pretty and with a great figure."

"Ah?"

Xiao Tong was stunned, her surprised expression frozen on her face.

Pang Zi clenched his teeth in silence—oh, the sin!

But he's doing this for Xiao Tong's own good, hoping this girl can move on soon—life still has many beautiful sights.

After a long silence, Xiao Tong spoke again—although she still wore a smile, to Pang Zi it looked only bitter.

"I get it—he's outstanding, it's normal for girls to like him…"

The more she spoke, the softer her voice, her face lowered. Pang Zi couldn't bear to watch, and blurted: "Xiao Tong, are you okay?"

It seemed she heard a faint sob; Xiao Tong lifted her face, covered her nose with her hand, and forced herself to stay calm.

"I'm fine, of course—I was the one who first suggested the breakup. Thanks for telling me this, Pang Brother, I'm heading back now."

As she said this, Xiao Tong already rose to leave; Pang Zi hurriedly said: "Let's eat first—I'll take you home after."

"No thanks, Pang Brother, I'm not hungry. By the way, I'll go talk to Dan Sister about that. Bye, Pang Brother."

She gave Pang Zi a final sweet smile, then turned and left without looking back.

Whether she didn't want him to see her tears fall, Pang Zi didn't know—he could only sigh to himself.

Watching her receding silhouette disappear into the crowd, Pang Zi suddenly felt like cursing someone.

What the hell kind of plot is this—why does it have to happen to me!

On one side is his best brother, on the other is his pitiful junior sister—what can he do!?

The most pitiful part is that this girl still thinks she initiated the breakup—in fact, even this breakup was carefully plotted and controlled by Chen Ci.

All so he could remain untainted, making it easier for him to carry out his new plan.

"Hey, my meal card?"

Everyone had been gone for a while before Pang Zi realized his meal card was still in Xiao Tong's hand.

He glared resentfully at the two worthless friends behind him, who immediately lowered their heads to pick at their cold rice.

No choice—Pang Zi had to get up and chase after them…

Unbelievably, Shi San actually invited Chen Ci to eat.

This guy's frugality is legendary—otherwise, how could someone his age afford a house in Jingcheng?

And right off the bat he picks a big hotel where the per‑person spend is over thirty—so Chen Ci has to give his brother face.

He dropped everything he was doing and arrived early.

He had two bowls of noodle soup; when he was about to get a third, the person arrived—right on time.

But Shi San didn't come alone—he brought a short‑haired woman.

Her hair was even shorter than Chen Ci's, a metal pendant hung from her left earlobe, she looked heroic and full of aggression.

If it weren't for her conspicuous chest muscles, Chen Ci wouldn't dare guess her gender.

This was probably within Chen Ci's expectations, after all—Shi San volunteering to treat is really out of character.

"Brother Ci, let me introduce—this is KK Sister, my manager. KK Sister, this is…"

Before Shi San could finish introducing her, KK Sister promptly extended her right hand: "You're Chen Ci, right? Kris."

Her decisive, no‑nonsense nature impressed Chen Ci, who also readily reached out—they tapped lightly.

"Kris, what about the other K?"

"King, KrisKing."

Chen Ci nodded: "Great name, imposing."

The three took their seats; Chen Ci looked to Shi San, waiting for his next words, while KK Sister made the first move.

"Let me be frank—I heard from Shi San that you guys sang 'Old Boy'; it's not bad."

The moment she spoke, her arrogant aura was palpable from afar, yet Chen Ci couldn't bring himself to feel much dislike.

He replied flatly: "Oh, thanks for the praise."

Sister KK almost without pause: "We want to collaborate with you, at Shi San's autobiography release event, perform this song."

"What? An autobiography?"

Chen Ci gave Shi San a bewildered look and said, "How old are you, kid? You're already starting to look back on your life?"

Shi San scratched his head, laughing embarrassedly: "Um, Brother Ci, it's all arranged by the company. The newbie award I mentioned to you before, the ceremony is in October, and the company set it up for publicity."

Chen Ci nodded, understanding.

Sister KK then said: "Originally we wanted to buy this song from you, but Shi San insisted, demanding that the Broken Guitar Band perform together on stage, so I want to talk with you."

Chen Ci chuckled lightly: "Nothing to discuss; Shi San likes this song, just take it and use it."

Shi San's eyes narrowed: "Brother Ci…"

Sister KK nodded, her face still as cold as dark ice: "I heard from Shi San that you are Chen Kaige's nephew."

As soon as she finished speaking, Chen Ci couldn't help but furrow his brows, his gaze toward KK turning two degrees sharper.

KK seemed completely unaware, and as she locked eyes with Chen Ci, the corner of her mouth still hinted at a smile.

Seeing the atmosphere turn cold, Shi San, despite the hot weather, suddenly shivered and hurriedly urged: "Brother Ci, Sister KK doesn't mean that. Sister KK, I didn't tell you that…"

Obviously, Shi San had already taken precautions with Sister KK before coming.

Sister KK's interest grew, but she couldn't be bothered with Chen Ci's family matters; she put away her smile and continued: "Shi San also said he invested all his money into you to make a film, a film about your band."

Turns out this is the main course today, though Chen Ci wasn't surprised either.

Such things will eventually be known by others; Chen Ci would love for as many people as possible to know, which would also save him some effort in promoting the film.

"There is such a thing; what does your company think?"
