Chapter 106: City of Slaughter

~6 min read 1,190 words

Now Li Xuan is already more than ten thousand li away, and Ning Fengzhi and the others don't even know where Li Xuan actually went, let alone chase him, so Li Xuan can finally relax and get a good rest here.

He rested on the ground for a while, then took out a bottle of clear water and drank it down, and only then did Li Xuan regain some strength.

Leaning against the surrounding earthen slope, the weakened Li Xuan crawled up from the ground and sat on the slope, scanning the surroundings.

"Do I have to know where this is? A place ten thousand li from Sunset Forest." Li Xuan twitched his mouth, and the searing pain in his chest mixed with the ache of every inch of skin and meridian, making him gasp a cold breath.

Jian Douluo's sword aura was domineering; although the aura had been cleared, it still left many wounds inside Li Xuan's body, and any slight movement made him break out in cold sweat.

After sitting up, Li Xuan waited a while before feeling a bit more comfortable, glanced around, and saw only wilderness with no landmarks, so he couldn't tell where he was.

Li Xuan thought for a moment, then took some hemostatic and analgesic medicines from the Void Pearl, first applying them to his wounds and then swallowing some herbs to relieve the pain.

After more than ten minutes, the pain on Li Xuan's body finally eased a little.

Li Xuan got up from the ground, looked around, and faintly saw some weak lights in the distance.

"Well, my luck is something else—crossing ten thousand li only to be teleported right outside a small town, a place where I can finally settle and tend my wounds." Li Xuan chuckled, then casually picked up a wooden stick, steadied himself with a trembling gait, and headed toward the nearby town.

Li Xuan was injured; although the wound wasn't fatal, the sword aura's damage was huge, and every muscle, tendon, bone and meridian in his body was bruised, leaving him extremely weak and unable to walk quickly.

Half an hour later, Li Xuan finally huffed his way into the town.

Even though it wasn't far, every step made Li Xuan wince with pain; the whole trek had been a torment.

But as soon as he entered the town, Li Xuan sensed that the atmosphere was off.

Every person there wore a sickly pallor, and more importantly, their eyes were hollow, devoid of any luster, like puppets.

Feeling something amiss, Li Xuan turned to leave, when he suddenly noticed two black‑robed figures standing at the town entrance, their icy gazes fixed on him as if stepping back would invite death.

Li Xuan tried a Burning Heart Divine Flame, but the people before him had steadfast minds and his Heart Fire couldn't ignite them; that means those two were at least Level 20, otherwise they couldn't resist the erosion of the Burning Heart Divine Flame.

"What a crappy trick, have I stumbled into a bandit den?" Li Xuan said in surprise, then turned and walked deeper into the town.

Going deeper might mean death, but staying here would kill him instantly; Li Xuan had no other choice.

So Li Xuan could only wander aimlessly through the town.

…

Half an hour later, Li Xuan, looking a bit pale, stood at the doorway of a tavern.

Although the town had many buildings, they were all locked and inaccessible, and even the rooms that could be entered were dilapidated and uninhabitable.

Only this tavern remained lit, so the specks of light Li Xuan saw from afar must have come from its interior.

"Maybe this really is a bandit hideout? I thought I'd been transferred somewhere else, and yet I'm teleported here." Li Xuan muttered irritably, not wanting to dwell on his luck any further.

But Li Xuan now had no other options; the wound on his chest had started oozing blood from the long walk, and without a comfortable place to recuperate, the wound would keep tearing open and bleed continuously.

Resigned, Li Xuan lifted his leg and stepped into the tavern.

The tavern was spacious, but its interior was dominated by black tones; despite the bright lights, it still gave a very oppressive feeling.

Although there were few patrons, the air was unusually thick. "Sniff… sniff…"

Li Xuan twitched his nose and carefully sniffed the air before him.

"Is this air poisonous?" Li Xuan raised an eyebrow and muttered.

However, the toxin wasn't strong; Li Xuan's Burning Heart Divine Flame could easily dispel it.

Li Xuan thought it over, hesitated briefly, then entered the tavern anyway; he had no choice—without the tavern he wouldn't have any place to set down.

As for the toxin, once the Burning Heart Divine Flame burns, nothing remains, so there's no need to worry.

The moment he entered, all the patrons' gazes fell on Li Xuan, ranging from greed to confusion to suspicion…

Li Xuan wasn't a thin‑skinned person; leaning on his stick, he found a corner with a table and sat down.

Then, under everyone's astonished eyes, Li Xuan took out a freshly cooked, skin‑on pork shank from the Void Pearl and began gnawing it.

In no time, the pork shank disappeared into Li Xuan's stomach.

Just as Li Xuan was about to take out a plate of braised spare ribs to continue eating, a young man in a black server uniform with a cold face approached him.

"Sir, this is a bar; outside food is not allowed." the server said flatly, his voice emotionless.

"Oh, I didn't know there was such a rule here. Sorry, sorry, I'll put it away." Li Xuan forced a smile, then placed the braised spare ribs back into the Void Pearl.

Since he's on someone else's turf, he must follow their rules.

"May I ask what you'd like to drink?" the server continued.

"Anything will do, I'm a bit thirsty, just want to rest here." Li Xuan said with a smile, tossing a Soul Coin to the server.

"Alright, sir, please wait a moment; I'll prepare a drink for you." the server caught the floating Soul Coin steadily and turned away.

Li Xuan sighed, then leaned on the sofa, squinting his eyes to recuperate his spirit.

Just as Li Xuan closed his eyes, he heard nearby people chattering softly.

"This kid's skin is so tender, give him a couple of cuts; today's Bloody Mary will be delicious."

"Yeah, yeah, looks like he's only six or seven, his flesh must be tasty."

"Kids are the most tender; a bite would be so fragrant!"

…

Li Xuan slightly furrowed his brows; after absorbing the Filthy Flame Yin Lotus's soul, his five senses sharpened severalfold.

Even from several meters away, Li Xuan could still hear the low murmurs.

"Bloody Mary? This is the City of Slaughter?" Li Xuan raised an eyebrow, muttering in surprise.

Esteemed readers, happy Mid‑Autumn Festival.

Taking this chance, I'll revise the previous chapters a bit; there won't be major changes, and it won't affect continued reading. Thanks for your support, dear readers. (End of chapter)
