Chapter 29: Where did he get that bag from?
Boom~! Splash~~!
He slipped the stick-like memory eraser into his pocket, Sui Bian gave a symbolic flush, then turned, opened the door, and left the private room.
Upon exiting the restroom, he saw four Omicron dressed in black suits standing in the brightly lit hallway awaiting, among them also a lieutenant responsible for commanding the Omicron.
Sui Bian proceeded together with the four to the central hall of this floor, taking the dedicated elevator to the underground research center.
Soon, the group reached the third floor of the research center via the elevator.
Exiting the elevator, they arrived at a passageway resembling the hive's corridors, first passing many production workshops equipped with large culture dishes.
In the workshop's culture dishes, floating in the nutrient solution were large numbers of 'children'.
Upon closer inspection, these human-shaped 'children' had deep green scales covering their skin, and their hands and feet were already beginning to show claws.
These are one of Umbrella's mass-producible bio-weapons, the Hunter Alpha.
Using cloned human embryos, combining the T-virus with reptilian DNA, they developed a low-cost B. O. W.
Hunter Alpha acts swiftly, possesses extraordinary athletic ability, its claws can easily tear light armor, and the scale armor covering its whole body can resist small-caliber armor-piercing rounds.
Moreover, the Hunter Alpha derived from cloned human embryos also possesses the intelligence to carry out simple commands, adding to its mass-production value.
It understands human speech, has a short growth cycle, and is both effective and inexpensive, making the Hunter Alpha popular in Africa and the Middle East.
Passing the Hunter Alpha production area, Sui Bian's group arrived at the third floor's 'Living Specimen Detention Area,' in other words, the cell block.
Here there are many cell units holding over three hundred people secretly apprehended by Umbrella, the vast majority being vagrants whose visas have expired and who refuse to do illegal work.
Before Sui Bian took charge, these prisoners' main purpose was to serve as live experimental subjects for researchers, and as cannon‑fodder targets to demonstrate the Hunter Alpha's power to representatives of potential partners.
After Sui Bian assumed control, he did not release them out of compassion; instead, he prepared to send them to Africa or the Middle East to serve as the company's cheap labor.
After all, these individuals already knew Umbrella's dark side, and brain‑washing surgery is complex and time‑consuming, so there's no point wasting it on these lazy good‑for‑nothings.
But now that we have obtained the memory eraser from Men in Black, we can simply 'beep' them to release them; otherwise, sending them to Africa or the Middle East would still require us to provide for their food and drink.
09:01
Sui Bian and his five companions entered the interior of the prison area, walking into an observation room equipped with a huge one‑way glass.
Inside the observation room were several researchers in white coats, sixteen fully armed Alphas, and Hank with his helmet and visor removed, also present in the room.
The four Omicron serving as Team E had already reassembled.
"Mr. Sui." As the observation room's automatic door opened, everyone stopped what they were doing.
"Hmm." Sui Bian merely nodded in response and lightly waved his left hand, indicating everyone should continue as usual.
Immediately afterward, he approached Hank's side and heard this taciturn Hank stare at the glass ahead and ask in a rare tone of confusion:
"Sir, is this the threat you spoke of?"
Following Hank's line of sight, at the far end of the one‑way glass lay an interrogation room with white floor tiles, white walls, and a metal table and chairs.
And seated in the metal chair was none other than the plague doctor clad in black robes.
At this moment, the plague doctor sat alone in the metal chair, his right hand resting on the notebook on the metal table, his left hand holding a pen as he recorded something.
Before the plague doctor was moved to this interrogation room, technicians conducted a full‑body examination; he was fully cooperative throughout and showed no sign of resistance.
After the examination, it could be confirmed that the plague doctor's black gloves, black robe, and bird‑beak mask are attached to his body.
However, X‑rays revealed that beneath those surface layers lies a normal human skeletal structure.
This still wasn't enough to confuse Hank; what baffled the grim reaper was that, upon entering the interrogation room, the plague doctor somehow produced from the side pocket of his black robe a black packet larger than the pocket itself, in full view of everyone.
The notebook and steel pen currently used by the plague doctor come from that mysterious black packet of unknown origin.
Where did he pull that packet from??
The plague doctor's action utterly shocked all the researchers present; most of them had that very sentence running through their minds.
Clearly, prior to entering the interrogation room, all data indicated the plague doctor had nowhere to hide that black packet, yet in reality he simply pulled it out of his pocket right before everyone's eyes.
As rigorous researchers, they naturally would not believe in tricks or magic, so they could only explain the phenomenon as 'temporarily incomprehensible'.
Gazing at the plague doctor in the interrogation room, seemingly taking notes, Sui Bian fell silent for a moment before replying to Hank: "That's correct, this strange doctor is merely the tip of the iceberg."
"In the future… you and your Alpha, along with the company's other organized units, will encounter phenomena even more bizarre, strange, and incomprehensible than this doctor."
"Yes, sir." Hank's voice remained flat.
For Hank and the Alphas, they need no encouragement; they only need to understand the enemy they face.
"Mr. Sui." At this point, a researcher in his forties or fifties approached Sui Bian, handed over the paper file in his hands, and said:
"This is the casualty list and survivor list compiled from the person in charge of Chalan Tun No. 26 Apartment and the local government's statistics."
"Hmm, thanks." Sui Bian reached out and took the file.
A quick skim revealed no commonality among the deceased—varying incomes, different work environments.
Based on Sui Bian's understanding of the plague doctor, he would only act when he confirmed a human had the plague, then strike and carry out the so‑called therapeutic procedure.
However, he did notice a commonality among the survivors: six children under sixteen years old, including the ten‑year‑old Middle Eastern girl, were not killed by the plague doctor.
Naturally, when Hank leads the Alphas in an assault, they also strive to avoid harming these children, so all the children survive.
"What exactly is the plague?" Sui Bian frowned after reviewing the file.
Afterward, he returned the file to that researcher and, in a calm voice, ordered: "Prepare to interrogate the plague doctor."
"Yes, sir."
