Chapter 60: Living Dead

~7 min read 1,301 words

The advantage of the little bird's small size is crystal‑clear at this moment.

Five little‑bird helicopters each land on the open ground around the factory and on the street.

On each side of the little bird's seats, two fully armed operatives in black combat suits are seated.

The instant they touch down, the operatives quickly release the safety buckles, leave the seats, grip their custom weapons, and advance toward the factory.

After the operatives disembark, the five little birds swiftly ascend and depart.

The armed little birds providing cover, seeing the factory's counterattack intensify, raise altitude and withdraw their trailing formation.

Later, the unrest in the area does not cease simply because the helicopter noise fades.

Twenty operatives, in groups of four, forming five squads, encircle the entire factory.

Although the workers and security inside the factory together number many times more than the five squads, the current situation can indeed be called a "siege".

These five squads are entirely pressing on the factory side.

"Tadadada~!" The distinctive crisp gunfire rings continuously.

"Puff!" The moment security guards and workers are hit, a low‑intensity explosion erupts at the wound.

If the limbs, neck, or waist are hit, the factory guards are forced to endure a brutal, painless amputation, head replacement, or torso‑separation surgery.

Even chest and abdomen protected by bullet‑proof vests cannot stop such explosive projectiles.

At the moment of explosion, tiny steel beads spray in all directions.

Flesh and blood become a blur.

In less than three minutes of firefight, the outer defenses collapse, forcing security and workers to retreat into the factory buildings.

Surrender?

It's not that no one has tried, but even if they raise their hands to surrender, the attackers remain "equal treatment" for all.

Shoot to kill.

Resisting means death, surrender also means death, so resistance is the only choice.

The attacking side's five squads of twenty each enter the factory perimeter from various directions.

They ignore the severed limbs and arms scattered on the ground, the twitching half‑bodies, and the exposed intestines, marching straight toward the plant.

The massive factory comprises three large production halls and a storage warehouse.

Take note.

Each squad is assigned a production hall and the warehouse; the last squad of four operates separately to ensure no one is left outside the factory.

———————

…

Factory warehouse.

"They're not human! Not human! Can't be killed!"

"I clearly hit a bastard! Yet that guy is completely fine!"

"Monsters! Fuck! They must be monsters!"

"What kind of force has the company actually provoked??"

Inside the warehouse, the six surviving guards roar in terror, as if shouting could boost their courage to resist.

Besides those six guards, there are dozens of equally frightened workers.

Looking around, the warehouse shelves hold military‑green long crates.

Inside the unsealed crates are layers of shredded paper and foam for cushioning, and neatly arranged standard‑issue rifles.

Most of these rifles are Belgian standard models such as the FNFNC and FAL, along with FNP90 submachine guns and FN Minimi light machine guns.

From this we can infer that this is a weapons factory built by a company in Brazil, dedicated to producing the FN series of firearms.

Boldly establishing a weapons plant on the city outskirts, this company seems similar in nature to Umbrella, yet its scale and level fall short of Umbrella.

After all, Umbrella builds factories in the United States, France, the United Kingdom and other countries; it hasn't built one in Brazil because it already has deployments in Argentina.

Moreover, Umbrella's upper management originally thought the Brazilian government was incompetent and its violent agencies' enforcement ability was poor.

Who would have known that a country Umbrella dismissed would be "picked up" by this organization.

In fact, the "monsters" the guards mention are Umbrella's Living Dead Special Forces.

The organization the guards refer to is H. C. F., which has long sought to seize Umbrella's research results.

Due to the successive loss of contact with Ada and Wesker, H. C. F.'s patience wore thin, and at the beginning of December it launched a full‑scale infiltration of Umbrella.

Unfortunately, all of H. C. F.'s moves were fully observed by the Red Queen and White Queen.

Whichever side loses patience also loses its chance of victory.

H. C. F.'s series of impatient actions allowed the Red and White Queens to trace the matter clearly.

H. C. F. originally was a private military unit under the pharmaceutical division of Tri-Union Company, which was founded by the European noble Travis family; its internal competition is even more intense than Umbrella's.

(The game's official source never clarified what HCF stands for; even external sites lack its full name—perhaps it was omitted from the data table, or the table is still brewing.)

Any link here to Tri-Union is purely intended to give Umbrella a hard time.

Inter‑departmental communication is not close, yet H. C. F. remains nominally under Tri-Union.

Sui Bian disregards all that and immediately orders the elimination of H. C. F. while also thoroughly investigating Tri-Union.

In less than a month, Tri-Union's public businesses either go bankrupt or are acquired.

Its private assets, such as weapons factories and biochemistry plants, receive "visits" from Umbrella's armed security, USS and MTF.

And this weapons factory is used for Living Dead Special Forces combat training.

Next.

Workers unwilling to be captured seize the weapons and ammunition stored here, then follow the guards' commands to take advantageous positions.

Soon, the guards and workers face an attack by a squad of Living Dead.

They lacked the tactical maneuvers of those elite special forces, and there were no shock grenades before the assault; instead they opted to charge straight in, swinging wildly through the main gate.

The moment four undead rushed into the warehouse, gunfire erupted and flames flew everywhere.

The security and workers, occupying the advantageous position, concentrated fire and appeared to have severely wounded the two undead leading the charge.

Their bodies were riddled with bullet wounds, the injuries to their limbs deep enough to expose bone.

Even one undead had a penetrating gunshot wound at the neck, blood gushing like a spring, looking quite gruesome.

Even so, this did not stop the undead's advance.

To completely stop them, only dismemberment or total destruction of the head will work.

Yet fighting the undead gave them an overwhelming sense of pressure; in momentum the security and workers were at a disadvantage, and they were far inferior in weapon handling precision as well.

Before the security and workers even had a chance to blow the undead's heads, they were all blown apart by the four undead.

The warehouse battle ended in less than three minutes, and even normal combat lasted only fourteen minutes at most.

Battle ended.

The twenty undead who received the hive's latest orders first administered simple bandages to each other, then were picked up by the returning little bird flight squad.

The flight squad transported the undead to the temporary base the company had set up within Brazil.

Immediately afterward.

The technicians entered the factory to wrap up, recovering Three United Company's lathes and cargo, disposing of corpses and bloodstains, ensuring nothing was left behind for anyone.

Umbrella had already greeted the Brazilian government and military before this operation.

Once the technicians arrived, the Brazilian military would seal off the area, giving Umbrella seventy-two hours to wrap up.

Only the Saint Paul police were somewhat unlucky.

—————

…

Meanwhile.

The hive's third-level control center.

Far away in Raccoon City, Sui Bian had been monitoring the undead special forces' actions.

Because this was the undead's first real combat.

Without employing any tactics, the undead's combat performance was quite good.

Seeing this, Sui Bian prepared to have Rebecca produce another twenty to replenish the company's "stock".
