Chapter 7: One Shot Ends
04:47.
The east glowed with the pale white of fish belly before dawn.
Raccoon City remained silent; only occasional dog barks proved the city had not yet become a 'ghost city'.
Outside the northern part of Raccoon City Police Department by one kilometer lay a residential area with several apartment buildings in the style of 1970s–80s American architecture.
One of them had twenty-two floors, appearing newly built, a luxury apartment located beside the main road leading to the city center.
At that moment.
A convoy consisting of a black box truck, a white SUV, and a blue pickup truck was driving along this main road.
The SUV, as the lead vehicle, turned right, leading the convoy off the main road, then turned left to arrive at the front yard of this luxury apartment.
All vehicle doors opened simultaneously, and sixteen fully armed Omicron members, in teams of four, quickly disembarked.
Sui Bian, wearing a suit, also exited the box truck and stepped forward to follow the four Omicron combat teams toward the apartment's main entrance.
As a luxury apartment, the main door required access control to open, and the building was also equipped with the latest surveillance system.
However…
With a "beep~", the access control "automatically" unlocked, and the surveillance recording also stopped working.
Thus, Omicron and Sui Bian could smoothly enter the first-floor lobby.
In fact, these were the results of the Red Queen's covert intrusion, which also cut off communications here to prevent the apartment's security from sounding an alarm.
"Hey! Who are you!"
Just as security was mentioned, a heavily overweight, Mediterranean-looking security guard in a white shirt uniform rushed out from the security room on the right side of the lobby, brandishing a baton.
However, when this guard saw the intruders were fully armed Omicron, with several gun barrels pointed at him…
"Clang~!" He threw the baton to the ground, raised both hands in panic, and knelt on both knees to show he posed no threat to the Omicron.
Seeing this.
The lieutenant deliberately issued the command in Spanish: "Handcuff him (Esposarlo)."
One Omicron left the formation, moved behind the guard, and took nylon zip ties and tape from the tactical pouch on his waist.
Skillfully, he handcuffed the guard's wrists behind his back, then sealed his mouth with tape; finally, the Omicron dragged the now helpless guard back to the security room.
Close the door.
Reassemble.
The four teams continued forward.
Team A (the lieutenant's team), Team B, and Sui Bian took the only two elevators and went directly to the ninth floor where Wesker resided.
Teams C and D stood by in the apartment stairwell and fire escape to ensure no one could escape from the upper floors.
Soon after.
In the central lobby of the ninth floor, the two elevators arrived one after another.
As the doors opened, the eight Omicron from Teams A and B quickly exited the elevator and proceeded lightly down the right-hand corridor.
Because the corridors above the second floor were carpeted, and Teams A and B deliberately stepped lightly, they did not make loud noises.
As for Sui Bian, who had no combat experience, he stood in the lobby and waited calmly.
Soon.
Teams A and B then approached the room marked 0907.
Immediately, the lieutenant signaled with gestures, ordering Teams A and B to take positions on the left and right sides of the door.
Then, the Omicron from Team B farthest from the door voluntarily left the formation, half-crouched before the door to examine the lock's structure, and took two lock-picking tools from the pocket of his tactical vest.
Within seconds, the Omicron stowed the tools, extended his left thumb to indicate the lock was open, and rose to rejoin Team B on the right side of the door.
Next.
The Omicron at the front of Team B turned the doorknob, opened the door, and gently pushed inward to test.
There was no obstruction.
It seemed Wesker had no habit of using a security chain, or perhaps the door simply lacked one.
After confirming, that Omicron pushed the door open, rushed first into Wesker's apartment, and the remaining three members of Team B followed closely.
The lieutenant's Team A, meanwhile, remained outside to provide support.
The four members of Team B who had stormed into the apartment's living room quickly spread out and checked every corner.
Wesker's apartment layout was similar to Sui Bian's single-occupant unit.
An open-plan kitchen and living room, with the bathroom to the right of the entrance and the bedroom with its door closed to the left.
The living room showed nothing unusual; three of Team B aimed their guns at the bedroom door, while another stepped forward quickly to prepare to kick it down.
"Bang!" With a kick, the bedroom door was easily burst open.
At the instant the door was kicked open, that person quickly withdrew to give teammates a clear line of fire.
Then…
"Pu! PuPu!" Several muffled sounds echoed inside the apartment.
"Bang! Pfft!" and the noise of bullets destroying indoor furniture, walls, and mattress.
The two Team B members with the best firing angles pulled the triggers, spraying the bedroom with precise shots, leaving it in utter disarray.
Looking inside.
There lay Wesker, wearing only black shorts, supine on the bedroom carpet.
Not far from Wesker, the nightstand drawer was half-open, containing a pistol resembling a Beretta 92F, the S. T. A. R. S. -issued Samurai Edge.
Naturally vigilant, Wesker was awakened the instant Team B stormed into the living room.
However, as Wesker turned to get out of bed to reach for his sidearm, the bedroom door was kicked down and he was simultaneously attacked by two Omicron.
Wesker's abdomen, armpits, both arms, and both legs suffered various injuries; blood had soaked the carpet, completely depriving him of combat and mobility.
"Cough… cough…" Wei Si Ke coughed up fresh blood, his gaze flicked toward the two Team B members who rushed into the bedroom, and he almost used his last strength to voice his doubt:
"How… how did the company discover it…"
Wei Si Ke was utterly perplexed; the secrecy work had shown no breach, the company's higher‑ups had no chance to uncover evidence of his betrayal before he actually acted, so why was the USS still appearing here?
It's just…
Even though Wei Si Ke was extremely cautious, he never expected a time‑traveler like Sui Bian.
"…" (x2)
And faced with Wei Si Ke's dying question, the two Omicron simply chose to ignore it.
Before long, Sui Bian also entered the bedroom, but when he saw Wei Si Ke lying in a pool of blood, his brows involuntarily knit together.
Although he had already prepared himself mentally for many future bloody scenes, the first time was still somewhat unsettling, especially the rust‑like smell of blood, which was truly nauseating.
But it was still within his tolerable range.
Sui Bian endured the discomfort, borrowed a pistol equipped with a suppressor from one of the Omicron, and then approached the dying Wei Si Ke.
He gripped the gun with his right hand, aimed at Wei Si Ke's forehead that reflected resentment, and hesitated a moment with a trace of inner conflict.
"Pu!"
"Poo!"
In the end, Sui Bian pulled the trigger with his index finger, and a single shot completely took care of Wei Si Ke.
