Chapter 97: What Is the Father‑Son Connection

~6 min read 1,057 words

"Hmm… its brain is more developed than I imagined, but the data indicate it should be the Velociraptor we know, or, in other words, a raptor."

Alekxia, standing at the left side of the floor‑to‑ceiling window, looked at the holographic projection screen before her and voiced the above speculation.

"Age—can you estimate its age?" Sui Bian, standing not far away with his hands behind his back, asked.

"Judging by its teeth, it should be only two years old," Alekxia replied, then refocused her gaze on the raptor and continued:

"So far no unknown virus or super‑bacteria has been found on it; according to the technicians' dissection, it was in a stress state before death, and two 7.62‑mm projectile perforations in its chest cavity caused its ultimate demise."

"Intelligence agents found its corpse at the Uganda border, which is also a combat zone between Ugandan rebels and government forces," Sui Bian said calmly.

"Combat zone? Sigh…"

Alekxia shook her head with a light sigh, as if lamenting that humanity can never escape war.

Sui Bian offered no comment; he turned to Caron and the Astates, his face solemn as he said in a deep voice:

"Everyone, it can now be confirmed that the dinosaurs that should have vanished have re‑entered human sight."

Analyzing the data obtained by intelligence, there have been multiple dinosaur sighting reports in Uganda since yesterday, so the company hypothesizes that the source reviving the dinosaurs is very likely within Uganda.

"However…"

At this point, Sui Bian lightly waved his left hand and brought up the holographic control panel in the observation room.

After a brief manipulation, he displayed satellite overhead maps of Kenya and Uganda, marking the areas of interest with various colors.

Everyone stared at the holographic satellite map projected in the center of the observation room, while Sui Bian continued: "However, Uganda's situation is rather complex.

In April 1979, Idi Amin, one of Africa's three greatest Tyrants, fled to Saudi Arabia, granting Uganda a brief period of stability.

Nevertheless, many supporters of Amin's regime remained in Uganda, directly leading to the early‑2000 military mutiny.

Uganda fell into turmoil again, construction halted, and the government collapsed.

Amin's rebel forces have seized a vast area east of the capital Kampala, which is also the main hotspot for dinosaur sightings.

The French Foreign Legion stationed on the Kenya‑Uganda border, specifically the 13th Half Mixed Brigade, contacted us recently to avoid entanglement and to give the rebels a lasting lesson.

"They hope to hire our security forces together with their elite troops to launch a joint raid on a rebel camp not far from their base."

"So, sir, you mean we Caron should assist the Outlaw?" Marini, the Caron squad leader, asked.

"Using MTF against human weapons seems excessive, and I originally didn't want to intervene, since this is an internal conflict of another government, but…"

At this point Sui Bian shifted his tone and said, "The intelligence supplied by Outlaw shows that the rebel camp holds many civilian captives, even over a dozen foreign tourists."

Based on Africa's past war history, these captives will endure inhumane cruelty, and their ultimate fate will inevitably be death.

Therefore, Captain Marini, I want you and your Caron to, while searching for the source of the anomaly, also lead these children to witness a real battlefield.

Having finished, Sui Bian turned his gaze toward Robert, John and the other Astates.

Following Sui Bian's gaze, Marini, Chris, Jier and the others also sized up the Astates.

Especially Marini wanted to say, "Sir, rest assured, we Caron will protect these little ones."

But seeing that these "little ones" each have a giant's presence, he swallowed the remark.

Finally he nodded and said, "Yes, sir."

"Also," he added, "Dr. Rui Xike will accompany you; she is a biology expert who can provide you with effective advice."

"Thank you all for your effort," Alekxia said smoothly.

"First, change your gear; we'll depart shortly for the base of the 13th Half Mixed Brigade, where the Outlaw elite will be your guide," Sui Bian said calmly.

"Understood."

With those words, Alekxia and the Caron detachment left the observation room first, while John, Robert and the other Astates remained behind.

"Afraid?" Sui Bian smiled lightly.

"No, father, we're not afraid," Robert, acting as the elder brother, answered first.

"It's just…" Robert began, then hesitated.

Sui Bian could sense the Astates' inner conflict.

Because of the "father‑son link," after these children undergo the G‑gland surgery, Sui Bian can clearly perceive enhancements in strength, reaction speed, and so on.

Moreover, at close range he can also discern the Astates' emotional fluctuations.

"It's just that you can't bring yourselves to act, right?" Sui Bian immediately finished the sentence for Robert.

"—" Robert, John and the others nodded wordlessly.

"I understand," Sui Bian said, stepping slowly before them: "You are confused, you hesitate, wondering why you would strike at fellow humans."

"You have seen many anomaly case files and witnessed heroes who willingly sacrifice themselves for humanity; I know you also wish to become such heroes, which is good, and I am pleased."

"But humanity is in fact a very complex species; you have learned much about its good side, and now it is time for you to understand its evil side."

"The evil side?" a round‑faced Astate replied, "Father, do you mean stealing… fighting and the like?"

"No, it is thousands to ten‑thousands times worse than that!" Sui Bian said gravely, lecturing:

"Do you remember the Ibushri file? Who summoned the demon into our world? It was humans, the heretical believers!"

"In Africa, you will witness evils that push the limits far beyond those heretics; you must experience them, grow, and forge a steel‑like will."

"If in the future you still hesitate, are confused, and are conflicted, do you know what the result will be?"

"We might… die," Robert blurted out.

"Yes, you will die, and your failure could directly push humanity into darkness, but more importantly…"

At this point, Sui Bian moved to the center of the Astates, surveyed each face, and said in a heavy tone:

"I will lose you; understand?"

The Astates who heard Sui Bian were stunned, but quickly grasped the deeper meaning.

"Understood! Father!"

"Hmm, this is the spirit my Astates should have. Go, and don't keep Captain Marini waiting."

"Yes!"
