Chapter 120: Toy Car
Behind each toy car, two or three people were straining to push; the cars formed a line, moving toward the cafeteria entrance.
Entering through the main door leads to the dining hall.
From this position one can see the cafeteria's main door, but the distance is so great that nothing can be made out.
At humanity's current size, even a cement floor that once looked level will, if viewed from a little farther away, have enough unevenness to prevent people from seeing each other.
Moreover, after being shrunk, human vision is easily blocked by various things.
Chen Mu, afraid of being spotted by those below, immediately lowered himself, then lay flat on the ground, sticking his head out from the side of the slope to see what the people below were doing.
Fortunately they were ascending the slope from the other side; otherwise they might have run into those people.
Given that this is the cafeteria, those people are likely from Yi Zhong.
Besides Wei Dalei, the other three also lay down.
He Ying lay beside Chen Mu, imitating him, carefully extending her head to take a few looks, then said: "This is a set of ausing brand toy cars, sixteen in total, various models, bodies of aluminum alloy, tires of professional rubber, scaled down at 100:1, with interior details finely replicated, but without power, purely a model."
"How do you know all that?"
"When I was little, my dad gave me a set."
"Gave you? Toy cars?"
"Yeah, he's a stereotypical straight guy; he even gave my mom a PS5."
"Then what?"
"Then those two things have always been his to play with."
"Quite the expert." Chen Mu sighed.
"Only later, when I grew up a bit, did I realize he just wanted to play himself and used me as an excuse." He Ying spoke of her family, the corner of her mouth twitching up slightly before she sighed.
Chen Mu said: "No wonder they're pushing those; I don't know where they found this set of toy cars."
"Indeed it's strange; this is a luxury toy, high quality, extremely realistic, a set costs several thousand—how could such a thing be in the cafeteria?"
"Looks like they're using these cars to transport cargo?"
"Yeah, they'll just make do with what's at hand." He Ying snorted.
Compared to those exquisite toy cars, Chen Mu's flatbed looks a bit shabby, but for hauling cargo it's far more practical.
Moreover, those cars are merely models and still need someone to push them.
"If we had a remote-controlled toy car, that would be fun." He Ying had a sudden idea.
"The remote controller wouldn't be easy to operate either." Chen Mu said.
"That's true."
"But that's still an idea."
"What?"
"The remote control for such toy cars probably isn't high-tech; if we found a specialist to modify it, it might actually work."
As the two talked, the convoy below slowly passed by.
Although the road was pitted, the toy cars' wheels and bearings were smooth, making them easy to move; each car needed only two people to push.
Chen Mu didn't want to invite trouble; even though the others couldn't possibly notice anyone walking above, he still planned to wait until they passed before continuing.
But just then, a shout of "Ay!" came from the convoy.
After that, miserable cries rose and fell one after another.
Then someone shouted:
"Enemy attack!"
Thereafter, everyone abandoned pushing the cars and panickedly took up defensive positions around.
Chen Mu clearly saw a dozen figures rush out from the nearby greenery belt and attack the Yi Zhong convoy.
Most surprising to him was that the leader was none other than Yangbu'an of Qingbei.
Being up high and farther away, Chen Mu initially dared not be sure, but upon hearing the other's characteristic shouting, he could almost confirm it.
They had only parted a couple of hours earlier, yet here they met again.
Chen Mu felt he truly had some karmic connection with this chuunibyou teenager.
Only when they drew nearer did he notice that behind Yangbu'an's crowd were two familiar silhouettes.
Zhaotong.
Song Yu.
What are these people here for?
Sure enough, Qingbei and Yi Zhong have reached a point of mortal enmity?
These people obviously aren't just passing by chance.
Because after Chen Mu left the storeroom he rushed here nonstop, while Yangbu'an and company were only a step behind, showing these people had a clear purpose and premeditation.
Attacking the convoy amounts to only two possible aims.
Killing people, or intercepting the cargo.
And Qingbei likely intends both.
Because judging from Yangbu'an's force, it is far more earnest than when they previously fought.
Yi Zhong's side was caught off guard, but soon a few people stepped forward to block Yangbu'an's fierce assault.
One of them seemed able to erect an air wall, standing at the very front and blocking about half of Yangbu'an's stones.
Although lacking strength, some stones still pierced the air wall, but those that got through had most of their force dissipated, so they no longer threatened the Yi Zhong personnel behind.
This bought a moment to catch their breath.
The Yi Zhong people quickly organized a defensive and counterattack formation.
From Chen Mu's position it was clear that Qingbei had only about fifteen or sixteen people, while Yi Zhong had at least thirty-plus.
Although they were outnumbered, Qingbei had clearly come prepared, relying on Yangbu'an's first move, and now they actually had the upper hand.
Chen Mu focused his attention on observing Song Yu's actions.
But from beginning to end.
Song Yu merely had his hands behind his back, moving forward with the main force, taking no action.
He seemed very confident, believing that even without lifting a hand, others were enough to deal with Yi Zhong's people.
The facts proved his confidence was justified—Yangbu'an alone had already beaten more than thirty of Yi Zhong's people to the point they couldn't lift their heads; in the convoy, most appeared to be ordinary people, and the few special ability users were mostly defensive types.
Soon.
Qingbei had secured an absolute advantage.
The crowd gradually approached the convoy.
It looked as if the two sides were about to clash in close combat.
Suddenly.
A loud boom came from nearby.
A flaming huge stone ball rolled this way, gurgling, its trajectory clearly aimed at Qingbei's group.
Song Yu's step faltered, and he immediately ordered everyone to scatter and dodge.
The stone ball was fast, arriving in the blink of an eye, and its burning flames were larger than the ball itself, giving an eerie, bewitching appearance.
This was the first time Chen Mu had seen real fire since the apocalypse.
Compared to modern humans, the stone ball was already large, but in reality it was only the size of a marble, while the flame's height was several times that.
As the stone ball appeared, more people rushed out from the green belt.
Obviously.
Yi Zhong had brought reinforcements.
Or perhaps they had been prepared all along, waiting for Qingbi to walk into the trap.
Qingbei sensed something wrong; Song Yu shouted a few words, but because of the distance Chen Mu couldn't hear them, yet it was clear they were preparing to retreat.
Although they had prepared, the dozen or so elite Qingbei members would still require considerable effort to wipe out completely.
Moreover, although Yi Zhong's side had many people, there were few combat-type ability users; most of the time they relied on ordinary people constantly engaging in close combat.
But under Yangbu'an's ability, the tendency to become a casualty was high.
Fortunately, Yangbu'an's ability was also limited for now; as long as it didn't hit a vital spot, there was no danger to life, at most causing loss of mobility.
Chen Mu watched the chaos below, then his eyes shifted.
"Old Wei, how about we go grab a vehicle?"
Now we need to output the glossary list after all lines.
