Chapter 2: Ghost God Curse

~7 min read 1,275 words

The black-robed priest was so furious his lungs felt ready to explode.

Not only had a goblin ruined their blood sacrifice ritual, but now it dared to ignore him.

"Kill him!" he roared, brandishing his scepter.

The dozen or so subordinates behind him shouted in unison and rushed toward Wang Chong and the other on the sacrificial platform.

"Get behind me."

Wang Chong shielded Xixi behind him, a ferocious grin flickering across his lips.

Since there was no escaping, he would fight; when it came to brawling, he had never feared anyone.

"Whoosh!"

Wang Chong hurled the stone he had been secretly holding, then immediately leaped forward, smashing down with a fist.

The divine servant leading the charge dodged the stone but could not evade Wang Chong's punch.

"Crack!"

The blow landed squarely on his cheek; his head twisted at an unnatural angle, and his body flipped backward through the air.

The moment Wang Chong landed, he maintained his forward momentum, pivoted one hundred and eighty degrees on his right foot, and launched a spinning side kick.

"Bang! Bang!"

He delivered two kicks in an instant.

But this time, it felt as though he had kicked an iron plate.

These divine servants were far more powerful than he had imagined.

The two servants he struck merely swayed slightly.

Instead, Wang Chong's legs went numb from the shock; he retreated several steps to create some distance.

"Brother Wang Chong, are you alright?" Xixi asked, watching him anxiously.

"Don't worry, they're just a few small fry."

Wang Chong had no intention of losing face in front of a beauty.

"Bastard! How dare you call us small fry!"

"Arrogant! You are merely a goblin, yet you dare mock us; you simply do not know the meaning of death!"

"He killed Hanike! Kill him! Avenge Hanike! Perform the blood sacrifice for Lord Ghost God!"

In an instant, the dozen divine servants were enraged by Wang Chong.

They had been underestimated before, but today, being mocked by a dirty, humble goblin was the greatest humiliation of their lives.

"Want to kill me? I'm afraid you lack the ability!"

Wang Chong's fighting spirit ignited as well.

In his belief, there was only fighting, until death brought an end to it.

"Come on, you pieces of trash!"

Wang Chong charged straight into the crowd.

"Bang, bang, bang..."

A flurry of punches and kicks ensued.

Although Wang Chong was agile enough, every one of these divine servants matched him in strength.

Before long, Wang Chong began to falter; wounds multiplied across his body, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, yet he did not retreat.

"Thud!"

A divine servant kicked Wang Chong squarely in the stomach.

His body flew straight backward through the air.

"Hahaha, a goblin is just a goblin; you will forever remain the lowest race..."

A divine servant grabbed Wang Chong and slammed a fierce punch into his stomach.

Wang Chong was sent flying once again.

They were no longer in a hurry to kill Wang Chong; they intended to humiliate and torture him.

"Brother Wang Chong!"

Xixi hurriedly ran to Wang Chong's side.

"I'm fine."

Wang Chong wiped the blood from his mouth and forced himself to stand up.

"Little bastard, crawl over here, call me Grandpa, and if I'm in a good mood, I might leave your corpse intact," a divine servant said arrogantly as he strode up to Wang Chong.

"Pah! Your grandpa's ass!"

Wang Chong spat a mouthful of bloody saliva at him.

"Bastard! I'll skin you and make a waterskin out of you!" The divine servant, furious beyond measure, reached out to grab Wang Chong.

"No!"

Xixi cried out and threw herself in front of Wang Chong.

"Get out of the way! I'll deal with you later."

That divine servant knew nothing of sparing the fair; he slapped his palm onto Xixi's shoulder.

"Ah..."

Xixi fell hard onto her buttocks, crying out in pain.

"Damn it!"

Wang Chong glared furiously at the divine servant; blood flowed into his eyes. He wiped them, and his eyes turned blood-red; the world in his vision became nothing but that single crimson hue.

"Kill them all!"

"Kill them!"

"Kill them..."

A voice sounded in the depths of his heart.

His left arm suddenly began to swell, and strands of black-red fine lines appeared upon it.

Wang Chong felt no pain; his body seemed suddenly filled with power, swelling until he felt he was about to explode.

Now, he only wanted to kill!

"It is the Ghost God's curse!"

Seeing Wang Chong's transformation, the black-robed priest suddenly let out a ghostly shriek.

"Despicable goblin, your actions have offended Lord Ghost God; you shall live forever under Lord Ghost God's curse and become a ghost servant of the Ghost God!" He shouted with increasing excitement, seemingly overwhelmed by the mighty means of his true master.

Wang Chong breathed heavily, hearing only his own panting in his ears, his crimson pupils fixed on the black-robed priest who was dancing and gesticulating wildly.

"Kill!"

A single word escaped his lips.

The divine servants rushed at him, but were torn into minced meat by him one after another.

He saw the fear in the black-robed priest's eyes.

This made him even more excited.

"No, don't, I am Lord Ghost God's most loyal servant..."

The black-robed priest struggled.

However, it was all to no avail.

Wang Chong grinned ferociously and tore him in half.

Blood splattered across Wang Chong's face and body, yet he merely licked his lips.

Wang Chong's world seemed silent; he felt stifled, he needed to kill, and he turned to search for prey.

Those scarlet eyes locked onto Xixi, who was still sitting on the ground.

Xixi was completely shocked by the scene.

She forgot to flee, merely trembling uncontrollably.

"Kill!"

Wang Chong charged forward in great strides and scooped Xixi up in his arms.

This feeling of fullness made him feel comfortable.

He could not resist the urge to pull with all his might and tear Xixi in half.

"Brother Wang Chong..."

"Brother Wang Chong..."

Xixi looked at him, sobbing unable to form words.

Tears slid from her eye sockets.

Her eyelashes trembled; they were long and very beautiful.

Wang Chong paused, stunned.

"She is Xixi..."

"She is Xixi..."

Wang Chong suddenly felt a splitting headache.

"Kill her and become My servant!" A majestic voice sounded in his heart.

"Bastard! Do not think you can control me!"

His eyes regained their determination.

The blood-red color gradually faded.

He felt the energy within his body drained away, and his body collapsed softly.

"Brother!"

Xixi propped up the fallen Wang Chong, letting his head rest against her chest.

"So comfortable."

This was the last fragment of his consciousness.

Perhaps he was too exhausted; he fainted.

When he woke again, he was already in another place.

The bonfire beside him still held dots of embers.

Xixi was curled up beside him, asleep.

Wang Chong felt somewhat moved; with such a small body, Xixi must have been utterly exhausted to move him from the altar to here.

Xixi slept very peacefully, her long eyelashes twitching occasionally, the corners of her mouth slightly upturned.

Wang Chong stared at her blankly, suddenly feeling a great fullness in his heart.

"Brother."

Xixi opened her eyes.

As soon as she saw Wang Chong, she smiled, her eyes large and bright.

Wang Chong smiled too.

He reached out to stroke Xixi's hair, but suddenly discovered that his left arm was withered like wind-dried cured meat.

"What is happening?"

His head buzzed.

How understanding Xixi was; she sensed Wang Chong's pain.

"Brother, don't worry, I will heal you."
