Chapter 1254: Abduction
Abduction
Two cars slowly drove out of the street.
These two cars belonged to the two Councilors respectively, but currently, one was only being driven by a bodyguard. Both Councilors were sitting in the other car at this moment, looking out the window at the gradually receding Pu Family estate, a faint trace of disdain showing in their eyes.
"What do you think?" Councilor Tong asked.
"It's normal for the Pu Family to have hostility towards us. After all, they used to be the ones calling the shots in this Domain... Now that power has been seized by us few, they are naturally unwilling."
"Hmph, what can they do even if they are unwilling? It's wartime now; everything must be handled with special procedures."
"Han Meng is a smart person, he should know what we are going to do..."
"He can't leave the Pu Family right now. Even if he did, as long as he dares to lay a hand on us, it's a dead end." Councilor Tong said indifferently, "This isn't a remote place like the Aurora Domain. To assassinate Alliance Councilors during wartime... even if he is the 'Judgment' Pathway Chief, he can't bear the consequences."
"Once the 'story' on the side of the Aurora Domain Councilors is organized, at the next Alliance Council meeting, we can completely destroy the public credibility of his [Judgment]. This way, we are temporarily safe..."
The air suddenly fell into silence.
"You and I both know very well that once those things we did in the past are exposed, neither of us can escape. We'll definitely eat bullets." Councilor Tong paused for a moment. "We have no Divine Path, and we've struggled all the way to today, finally getting a chance to show our abilities... Do you want that Han Meng to hold onto our leverage forever?"
"But the Lord of the South Sea clearly knew what we did, yet he still didn't touch us..."
"Do you think he is truly biased towards us? No, the only reason he didn't touch us is simply because it is wartime now. If he replaced the two of us right now, he wouldn't be able to find more capable people to substitute us in a short time." Councilor Tong sneered. "Believe it or not, once the war is over, neither of us will be able to escape."
Councilor Sun was not stupid. With this point being raised, he immediately realized the problem:
"No wonder the Lord of the South Sea hasn't touched us and is holding onto our charges so tightly... Once the war ends, as long as he uses Han Meng to pick out this matter again, no matter what role we played in the war, he can logically push for a purge, letting his trusted aides firmly sit in the Councilor positions during peacetime and monopolize power..."
"Therefore, if we want to survive, we must... kill Han Meng before the war ends." Councilor Tong spoke slowly. "As long as Han Meng is dead, even if the Lord of the South Sea digs out our charges again, there will be no evidence, and the room for maneuvering will be much greater."
"But they transferred Han Meng from the Spirit Void Domain to the South Sea Domain precisely because they value his combat power. With just the two of us, how do we kill him?"
"Step by step. First, use this matter with the Aurora Domain to decrease Han Meng's public credibility and make him gradually fade out of the higher-ups' core vision... When the war truly arrives, we will use some methods to let him die in battle in the South Sea Domain. Anyway, the South Sea is our jurisdiction; there will always be an opportunity."
"As expected of you."
"Hehe, you flatter me."
The two Councilors sat in the back seat of the car, neither speaking anymore. Looking at the retreating street scene outside the window, it was unknown what ideas they were hatching in their minds.
Clunk, clunk, clunk—
Right at this moment, the location of the car's engine emitted bursts of strange roaring sounds.
The normally driving car began to gradually decelerate as if losing power. Amidst the bodyguard's astonished soft "Huh," it finally stopped on the side of the road.
"What's the situation?" Councilor Sun frowned and asked.
"Please wait a moment, gentlemen. I will get out and check."
The man who doubled as a bodyguard and driver got out of the car, opened the hood, observed carefully for a while, and walked back muttering.
"Gentlemen, the engine seems to have malfunctioned."
"Did you look carefully? Is it man-made or an accident?" Councilor Tong asked warily.
"I looked carefully, there are no man-made traces. It just broke down suddenly on its own..."
Councilor Sun smiled and said to Councilor Tong:
"Aren't you being a bit too sensitive? This is the South Sea Domain; who would dare attack Councilors?"
"It never hurts to be careful."
Getting the bodyguard's answer, Councilor Tong also knew he was overthinking things, and directly got out of the car.
At the same time, they saw Councilor Sun's bodyguard driving another empty car out of the faint mist and quietly stopping behind this car...
"Alright, hurry up and deal with this car. We two will take this one." Councilor Sun waved his hand and walked towards the car in the back with Councilor Tong.
"Yes."
Councilor Tong didn't think much this time either and directly got into the car with Councilor Sun. As the bodyguard lightly stepped on the gas, the car bypassed the broken-down vehicle and continued driving forward.
On the empty street, only Councilor Tong's bodyguard was left standing by the car, beginning to earnestly repair it...
More than ten seconds later,
Another of Councilor Sun's cars drove out of the mist.
The bodyguard was instantly stunned in place.
"What's going on? Where are the two Councilors?" Councilor Sun's bodyguard got out of the car. Seeing Councilor Tong's bodyguard repairing the car with no one inside, he asked in confusion.
"Shouldn't I be asking you?? Why did you come from that direction..."
"What do you mean why did I come from that direction... Isn't that the direction coming from the Pu Family?" The bodyguard frowned. "I don't know why, but a mist suddenly rose just now, and there were quite a few pedestrians on the road, so I slowed down a bit... What happened?"
The other bodyguard seemed to realize something and abruptly looked in the direction the previous car had left, his face incredibly ugly!
"Crap!!!"
...
Creak—creak...
The wipers mechanically swept across the windshield, wiping away the moisture attached by the mist, emitting bursts of creaking sounds.
Chen Ling casually tore off the sticky note attached to the door handle, gently adjusted the rearview mirror, and after glancing at the two dazed Councilors in the back seat, turned the steering wheel to drive the car towards another desolate and uninhabited small road.
That sticky note lightly fluttered and landed beside the seat:
[Mist gradually rises, pedestrians are in a hurry]
[The car the two Councilors are riding in experiences an unexpected engine failure and pulls over to the side of the road]
— [Fate Weaving].
One sentence to manipulate the weather, and one sentence to create an accident. Chen Ling easily performed Stagecraft and took the two Councilors away right under the noses of the two bodyguards... Compared to Chen Ling, they were still too green.
Noticing the car deviating from the route, Councilor Sun was startled. He doubtfully looked up at the bodyguard and was just about to say something...
The next moment, his gaze met Chen Ling's through the rearview mirror.
For some reason,
That bodyguard's gaze made him feel incredibly unfamiliar.
