Chapter 16: Crash-Course Singing Learning Method
The world inside the phone seemed like an extreme opposite to the outside world.
One ear heard the noisy clamor of teammates, while the world in the other ear was utterly silent, with only a soft female voice speaking.
"Chengzi, I have matters to attend to this afternoon, so I won't be going to the gym. If you want to go, you can go anytime; I've also canceled tomorrow's reservation, so you can go then too."
Today's reservation could not be canceled.
Jin Li thought that this young man spent every day immersed in the gym and might need to complete his daily check-in plan, so she simply called to remind him that he could go this afternoon if he needed to.
She did this mostly out of kindness; since the young man had reminded her about her breathing issues, Jin Li had no way to repay him and hoped to help him a little in return.
Gu Cheng already had arrangements for this afternoon and tomorrow, but he accepted her good intentions nonetheless.
"OK, it's just that I have no time this afternoon or tomorrow. If you want to go, you can go anytime."
Jin Li smiled. "Alright."
After hanging up, the sound of that "Alright" still echoed in Gu Cheng's mind.
That voice was quite sweet.
Actually, such a voice offered little advantage for singing, leaning somewhat toward a doll-like tone; yet her voice possessed a crisp decisiveness absent in soft, doll-like voices, likely a vocal trait bestowed by her personality.
Although it sounded soft, it conveyed a sense of firm strength.
"A-Cheng, what are you doing? Why are you zoning out?" A teammate reached over, slung an arm around his shoulder, and hung his entire weight on him.
"It's normal for A-Cheng to zone out. Stop clinging to him; have you considered how heavy you are!"
Another person said, "We have to stand on the initial stage again tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous; time flies, and two years have already passed!"
Someone who appeared to be the captain spoke up: "Then hurry up and train! Even if we have to pull an all-nighter tonight, we must perfect that dance!"
On the other side, after hanging up, Jin Li started her live study session.
Jin Li hadn't streamed in the afternoon for several days, leading fans to speculate she was training or attending scheduled events.
The news that she would serve as a mentor partner for the second season of "PICK~Next Diva" had not yet been revealed by either the variety show or her company.
Therefore, even when fans asked, Jin Li would not say anything.
Only when the screen was flooded with messages would she reply: "You'll see me very soon!"
Then she would lower her head again to attend her online classes.
The sound of the online instructor teaching echoed in the live room, calming the viewers' minds; their phones remained on the live stream interface but were muted as they focused diligently on their own tasks.
Some fans, originally indulging in idleness while scrolling through their phones and running variety shows on their computers,
felt an inexplicable sense of guilt seeing Jin Li study so seriously; the variety shows no longer seemed appealing, so they turned them off and picked up professional books instead.
The planet does not stop rotating because of one person; Jin Li's power was tiny, yet she was doing her utmost to shine and give warmth.
What interrupted her study session was the arrival of Sui Lingfang and Zou Da, accompanied by a vocal coach.
Jin Li bid her viewers farewell and decisively ended the live stream.
[I just heard a female voice; was that Pear Baby's manager?]
[Is this child finally going to attend an event? Thank heavens! Studying hard alongside her every day has even stressed out my roommate; she told me, 'Doggy, you've changed; you're no longer that slacking dog from before.']
[I'm so looking forward to Jin Li's stage performance; will her first event be on stage?]
The vocal coach had been urgently recruited; she was somewhat famous in the industry, specializing in correcting improper singing methods for stars who cannot sing, offering a crash-course singing learning method.
Crash-course was this teacher's specialty.
Upon hearing that Jin Li's manager had sought her out, the teacher was slightly surprised.
Jin Li had retired three years ago; before that, she had spent a year in a top-tier girl group, excelling in both singing and dancing, so why would she need this teacher?
The teacher's first reaction was that they had found the wrong person.
However, after conducting an urgent assessment in Jin Li's apartment, the teacher suddenly realized she had not been mistaken at all!
The vocal coach said with a serious expression, "Your problems are far greater than I imagined. Currently, apart from your pitch sense being decent, everything else needs to be relearned from scratch, especially your breathing, which is a major issue."
The vocal coach proceeded to teach Jin Li the most basic breathing exercises right in the living room.
The teacher first said, "All methods for practicing breathing require tightening the lower abdomen; only then can the diaphragm have sufficient strength to support the voice."
She paused, then smiled to ease the atmosphere.
"You don't need to worry; Jin Li has a foundation and will grasp the basics faster than most people. Practicing for three or four days should allow her to find her own rhythm."
This statement was directed at Sui Lingfang and Zou Da.
Being watched by these two managers made the vocal coach feel somewhat pressured.
Noticing her tension, the two managers moved over to the dining table.
Sui Lingfang, feeling restless, went to the kitchen to cut some fruit.
"Come, let's practice the first method: dog panting.
Pant like a dog, but this must engage the diaphragm, not involve tight inhalation and exhalation through the throat. First, use thoracic-abdominal breathing to control the actions of inhaling and exhaling..."
The vocal coach asked Jin Li to place her hand on her abdomen to feel how her abdominal cavity expanded and contracted, driving the breath upward.
Sui Lingfang returned to the dining table with a plate of fruit and asked in a low voice, "How is it?"
Zou Da gave a thumbs-up. "Jin Li entered the state very quickly; her learning ability is strong. The teacher has praised her several times."
Sui Lingfang felt slightly relieved; judging by this, the three-to-four-day crash course should be no problem.
She did not want to see a trending topic like #JinLiInitialStageDebutFails#, which would give her nightmares.
Thinking of another matter, she took out her phone and sent a message to He Yixuan.
On the other side, He Yixuan was in the resting area.
As soon as the staff member who had brought her there left, some of the stars sitting in small groups within the resting area began speaking with sarcastic tones.
"Why haven't we seen your manager? Didn't your manager accompany you throughout the first two rounds of auditions?"
"Exactly. When I saw her manager there initially, I was stunned. What's this, trying to pressure us through her manager?"
"So many second-tier actors came for the audition, yet she acts like the biggest star, with her agent tagging along."
He Yixuan sat down with a grim expression, closing her eyes to forcibly adjust her state; the more she paid attention, the more excessive their remarks would become.
Her phone vibrated; glancing down, she saw a WeChat message from Sui Lingfang encouraging her to give her best in the audition.
He Yixuan furiously threw her phone into her bag.
If Sui Lingfang had come along, there wouldn't be so many troubles right now!
Inside the apartment.
Jin Li practiced with her vocal coach until, before she realized it, it was seven in the evening.
Her stomach gave out first, rumbling loudly.
The sound made the others unable to hold back their laughter. Sui Lingfang stood up and said, "No one fight me for this one; my treat. Let's all go out for a meal."
At this hour, the central district was still somewhat congested, but since the restaurant wasn't far, they arrived quickly.
Once inside the private room, a fast-paced, energetic song was playing, and a clear male voice struck her as very familiar.
Jin Li's mind stirred, and she asked, "Whose song is this?"
Dear readers, please keep following and casting your monthly tickets; both are crucial during the new-book period~ I'm not asking you to click in every single day, but checking in once every three or four days isn't too much to ask, right? (Meow~ acting cute~)
