Chapter 45: From The Sky
[Do you want to try the lucky draw now, host?]
[Yes] [No]
"Later." Leon brushed it off as an insignificant thing for the moment.
The top floor was finally clear of all the monsters. Emily sheathed her sword. ’It’s strange. Last time, he withdrew that sword, all the monsters had fled. But today, nothing happened like that. Why?’ She wondered. Just as she was trying hard, something clicked in her mind. ’Wait. Were all those monsters primals back then? Yes. That’s it. That can be the only reason.’ She walked toward the center.
"Bro! That was awesome. I didn’t know you had that in you. How long were you planning to hide your strength?" Sol walked up to Leon and asked. "And why are you suddenly wearing a mask?"
Before Leon could answer, Emily reached them. "We don’t have time. Open all the cells and bring the prisoners out. We need to leave this place quickly."
Everyone nodded and sprang into action. The strongest monster on that upper floor was an S-Class beast. Its corpse lay on one side of the floor. It was carrying all the keys. Emily had already collected the keys. She distributed those among everyone.
Everyone started to open one cell after another. Leon had six keys. He had already opened 4 cells and rescued the people inside. But he couldn’t recognize any of them.
People from all over the world were captured here. Not just Delvan.
On Noah’s fourth try, he finally saw a face behind the door that he had been desperately expecting to see.
A female in combat gear. Two daggers were sheathed at her waist. But the girl’s face looked pale, as if she were suffering from malnutrition.
"Willow?" Noah spoke in a trembling voice.
The girl inside the chamber opened her eyes slowly. Her vision was blurry at first, but then she could finally see it.
"N-noah? You are alive?" Tears rolled down her face.
"Yes. I came back to save you. All of you. Let’s go quickly." Noah hurried beside Willow and helped her stand. Willow looked very weak, but she forced herself to stand as if she wanted to leave this place desperately.
When both of them came out, they saw Alex and Meridith were also rescued. The moment they saw each other, everyone hurried to one another. "Noah." Alex spoke with an emotional voice. "You are alive. Meridith. You are okay, too."
"Yeah. I am glad you all are fine." Noah said. "We need to leave this place fast." Noah looked around and found that all the gates were open. There were a total of 27 people trapped here. All gathered in the center. Emily spoke in a voice that wasn’t loud but audible to all.
"I think you all know about the situation. You all will be forced to participate in a death tournament. But even if you are on a winning team, it’s not certain that you can really leave this place or not. That’s why we need to immediately flee from this place. Those of you who agree with me can come along. Others, you can stay put and wait for your future."
With that, she started walking toward the window. It was as if how many followed behind her didn’t matter. She wasn’t here to ask for help. She was here to give them a chance.
Everyone looked at each other, not knowing what to do. Leon and Sol followed behind her without wasting a second. ’That’s the best we can do for them. Now, whether they come with us or not, doesn’t matter. We are not going to stay here to convince them and end up trapped as well.’ Leon thought.
Noah faced toward Alex and the other two females. "Guys, we need to hurry. Let’s go." Noah didn’t wait for an answer and followed behind Leon. Alex, Meridith and Willow shared a glance before following as well. Many more did the same. But few still stayed behind.
Emily got down on the ice steps carved in the tower wall again and started climbing down. Next was Leon and Sol. Then came Noah and the other three. The others who were willing to follow also started climbing down. Many among them looked weak. Someone was about to lose grip and fall, but Noah, who had already gotten down, raised his specter.
"Air whip."
A gust of wind blew toward the person, helping him regain his balance.
Soon, 24 people were standing outside the tower. And 7 people had chosen not to follow.
Emily followed the same route they had come by. But this time, at a faster pace. While running, Alex noticed that Leon wasn’t around. He thought about asking, but didn’t have the energy at the moment to talk while sprinting.
Many were running with gloomy faces. Uncertainty about the future gripped their hearts. But they continued to follow. Anything seemed better than staying in that God-forsaken tower.
They continued to run for almost two hours. Many looked as if they would collapse to the ground at any moment. But there seemed to be two healers in the group. They were constantly helping those who were in need.
Sol’s face brightened up slightly as the entrance to the frozen tear territory came into view.
But just when they were about to cross it, the ground shook. Howls and angry growls echoed in the distance.
Darkness swallowed the area as a giant being flew overhead.
Before they could rush forward, the colossal being descended before them.
The colour drained from everyone’s face.
It was gigantic, nearly thirty meters from head to tail. Pitch-black scales covered its body like layers of jagged armor. Two enormous wings stretched behind it. Its head was elongated and filled with rows of dagger-like fangs. And its eyes... They looked terrifying.
Massive claws dug into the earth beneath it. A long tail covered in sharp spikes slowly swept behind it.
"A wyvern. D-disaster class monster." Emily whispered in a trembling voice. For the first time, there was fear in her eyes.
And then... It roared.
The sound exploded across the entire area like thunder from the heavens. Trees shook violently. Snow fell from the cliffs nearby. Several weaker monsters in the distance immediately fled in terror.
’We are doomed.’ Leon looked at the ferocious beast before him.
