Chapter 66: Inside The Gate
The creature threw the girl aside and lunged at Leon.
Leon jumped and spun in midair, driving a kick straight into its chest.
Bam!
The beast’s body shot through the air like a cannonball, crashing through the restaurant’s back door and disappearing outside.
Silence.
Everyone stared at Leon. Especially his classmates. Henry’s mouth hung open.
"How is this the same Leon who used to sleep through every class with drool hanging from his mouth?" one of the girls whispered, covering her mouth in disbelief.
"What the hell? How did he change so much in just two weeks?" another boy stammered.
"Are we sure someone didn’t get plastic surgery and steal his face?" Another added.
Finally, Henry snapped out of his daze. "Bro, that was freaking awesome!" He rushed to Leon’s side.
"Get somewhere safe," Leon said simply before heading toward the exit. Henry tried to stop him, but Leon ignored him.
Leon walked out of the restaurant. Behind him, the students and other customers hurried toward the windows, gathering there to watch everything unfold.
Stepping onto the street, Leon looked around. Six more wolf-headed beasts were rampaging outside. The ripple within the gate showed that even more were preparing to emerge.
’This place is too far from the Hunter Association. Unless hunters are already nearby, it will be too late before they can finally arrive here.’
Leon walked forward.
One of the beasts was jumping over a car where three people were trapped inside, crying for help. Leon sprang into the air and drove his knee into the monster’s side.
Bang!
The beast was sent flying, crashing into a wall hard enough to leave cracks behind.
It quickly got back on its feet and glared at Leon before charging again.
Leon charged as well.
The creature’s claws swept toward him. Leon slipped past the attack and threw a powerful hook. The beast’s feet left the ground. It flew backward and slammed into the wall once more.
The other five monsters, who had been hunting nearby, finally realized something was wrong.
Their blood-red eyes locked onto Leon.
Ignoring them, Leon grabbed the car door and ripped it open.
"Move. Fast."
The three trapped passengers scrambled out and began to run for their lives. But before they could get far, another wolf-headed beast leaped through the air, claws aimed directly at one of their throats.
The remaining five monsters charged from behind.
Just as the claws were about to tear through flesh, Leon appeared. His right hand shot out and grabbed the beast’s wrist. The razor-sharp claws stopped inches from the victims’ necks.
The monster’s eyes widened.
Leon twisted its arm to the side. At the same time, his left hand slammed into its face, fingers digging into its skull.
With a powerful heave, he lifted the beast off the ground. Before the others could reach him, Leon spun on his heel and hurled the monster like a massive projectile.
The airborne beast crashed straight into the five charging monsters.
Bam!
All were sent tumbling across the street.
Many people rushed past Leon, hurrying toward safety. But before leaving, they didn’t forget to thank him.
Leon paid them no attention. His gaze remained fixed on the six wolf-headed beasts as they slowly climbed back to their feet.
’I have become stronger, but these things are no joke.’ Leon clenched his fists. ’I wish I could use the sword. Fighting them bare-handed is a pain. And...’
His eyes shifted toward the gate. Its surface rippled continuously.
’If more of them come out, I’m finished.’
The students and customers watched Leon charging toward the monsters. ’I have to deal with them before more can come out.’
The distance vanished in seconds. The beasts charged as well, their crimson eyes glowing as their fangs ground against one another.
Leon struck first. His fist slammed into the side of a beast’s head.
Bang!
The creature spun through the air and crashed onto the road.
But before Leon could follow up, two wolf-headed beasts attacked from the front.
Their fists slammed into his chest simultaneously.
Boom!
Leon was sent flying backward, his feet carving long marks across the asphalt as he struggled to maintain his balance.
Another beast lunged at him immediately.
This time, Leon blocked the attack and countered with a powerful kick.
Bam!
The monster was launched through the air and crashed into a parked vehicle.
A chaotic battle erupted.
Meanwhile, back at the Hunter Association...
Jessica sat in her office, sipping tea while reviewing a stack of documents.
Suddenly, the telephone on her desk rang.
She picked up the receiver.
"Miss President!" a hurried voice sounded from the other side. "A D-Class Gate has appeared in F Block, West Avenue Road. Monsters started pouring out the moment it opened."
Jessica’s expression changed instantly. "What? Is there a guild squad nearby?"
"No, mam. The nearest team is at least twenty-five minutes away."
Jessica frowned. "Everyone there will be dead by then." She immediately stood up. "Contact the nearest squad and tell them to get there as fast as possible. I don’t care how they do it. Tell them they have only fifteen minutes."
"Y-Yes, mam."
"And prepare a vehicle. I’m going there myself."
Back outside the restaurant...
Leon sat atop a pile of three wolf-headed corpses, breathing heavily.
His clothes were torn in several places, and blood flowed from multiple wounds across his body.
"Damn... that hurt." He wiped blood from the corner of his mouth. "I somehow managed it, but..." His gaze drifted toward the gate.
The ripples on its surface had grown even more violent. ’No. I can’t keep fighting them like this. I have to use the sword.’
Leon jumped off the pile of corpses and started walking toward the gate.
"What is he doing?" Cecilia whispered, staring at him carefully.
"Maybe he’s checking the gate?" another girl wearing the same college uniform guessed.
Leon continued forward.
One step.
Then another.
The crowd watched silently.
Then, under everyone’s stunned gaze, Leon walked straight into the gate.
His figure vanished.
For a moment, nobody reacted. Their minds simply failed to process what they had just witnessed.
Then the crowd exploded into chaos.
"What?! He went inside the gate?!"
"Is he insane?!"
"No... Leon!"
Henry rushed out of the restaurant and sprinted toward the gate.
But it was already too late.
Leon had disappeared inside.
The other students quickly followed Henry outside, their faces filled with shock and disbelief.
