Chapter 254: Space Distortion Region
When Gao Jie Ming arrived on time at the agreed meeting point and met Senior Brother Jack,
he discovered that eleven strangers, each with a different expression but generally weak auras, were standing beside him.
"Senior Brother Jack," Gao Jie Ming said as he stepped forward to greet him.
Seeing Gao Jie Ming's arrival, a faint smile appeared on Jack's face: "You're here; the timing is perfect."
After greeting Gao Jie Ming, he immediately shook his head with regret: "Sigh, after searching for so long, this is all the people I could find."
Looking at the eleven wizards standing behind him, Gao Jie Ming nodded in understanding.
It was evident that at this current stage, finding people to form a team and cooperate on missions was indeed quite difficult.
After all, in the eyes of all wizards, the entire "Sky Domain Plane" was currently a vast, undeveloped treasure trove.
Rather than wasting time inside this "Twisted Space," which sounded full of unknowns, and risking one's life to complete a rescue mission with a fixed reward,
it was better to fly farther away like other wizards and seek out those more abundant, easily accessible resources.
Therefore, apart from Gao Jie Ming, who had ulterior motives, the other wizards Jack could find were not of high rank.
Judging by the auras Gao Jie Ming perceived, these wizards were mostly Grade One Wizards.
Moreover, judging by their auras, which had not yet fully stabilized, they were likely newcomers who had only recently advanced and possessed relatively weak strength.
Because their power was relatively weak, these wizards chose this mission, which sounded not very dangerous, to earn rewards just to be on the safe side; this was also why Jack had shown such great surprise upon hearing that Gao Jie Ming, a formidable Grade Two Wizard, was willing to help.
After all, in terms of the number of souls one could deeply control via contract, a single Grade Two Wizard could match ten Grade One Wizards; Jack and Gao Jie Ming's conversation attracted the attention of the others, yet no one present seemed inclined to introduce themselves.
Even Jack seemed to think the same; after greeting Gao Jie Ming and confirming that everyone had arrived,
he decisively stood up, led the team away from the camp, and flew toward the direction they had marked long ago in the distance.
Gao Jie Ming and the other eleven newly recruited wizards likewise silently followed behind him, departing the camp together.
The group flew at high speed through this white world devoid of any reference points for a full six days before finally arriving at an area that looked no different from its surroundings.
Upon approaching this place, Jack, who was leading the team, cautiously stopped.
He turned around and warned everyone: "Ahead lies that 'Space Distortion' region; stay close behind me and do not leave the formation arbitrarily."
Hearing this, Gao Jie Ming's expression also turned serious.
He carefully examined the vast airspace ahead but gained nothing.
It was no exaggeration to say that the area before them appeared completely normal; even the floating white mist seemed no different from elsewhere.
There was absolutely no sign of any energy anomaly here; his various senses and the reconnaissance sorceries he had released in advance likewise yielded no effective feedback.
It was not until Gao Jie Ming carefully activated his "All-Purpose Eye" again, limiting his field of vision to a narrow fan-shaped area just a few meters in front of him,
that he barely managed to see some faint, wavering traces of spatial flow, clearly distorted like ripples on water!
"The danger of this space distortion far exceeds my expectations," Gao Jie Ming couldn't help but remark inwardly.
Without special reconnaissance methods, an ordinary wizard would probably crash into it and die without ever knowing how they perished!
At this moment, Jack took out a wizard artifact from his robe that looked like a metallic bird.
After channeling a strand of spiritual power into it, he gently released it.
Immediately, that bird-shaped wizard artifact seemed to be infused with life, transforming into a streak of light and instantly vanishing into the thick mist ahead.
Not long after, just as everyone was waiting with some confusion, the figure of Levin Mills suddenly appeared several hundred meters in front of the group.
He appeared without any warning, as if he had been standing there all along; seeing this, Jack visibly breathed a sigh of relief.
He turned back to look at these newly recruited wizards beside him and carefully instructed them:
"Remember the area where that wizard just appeared; it is the only stable entry point we have found so far to safely enter the interior of this 'Space Distortion Point'."
"Furthermore, to enter, one must strictly follow a specific flight trajectory, and when withdrawing, one must also retreat along this same flight trajectory."
Jack then led everyone forward.
He moved slowly toward Levin Mills' location following a peculiar "S"-shaped flight trajectory.
While following in flight, Gao Jie Ming keenly discovered that hidden within this thick mist were some very small spheres flashing with faint light.
They appeared to be "signal markers," serving as reference points in this region devoid of any landmarks.
He silently memorized this complex flight trajectory and the relative positions of these small spheres serving as references.
Actually, it was not just him; those other hired wizards were also silently doing the same thing.
"Levin, how is the situation inside?"
Having finally reached Levin Mills, Jack immediately stepped forward to greet him.
Levin Mills merely nodded politely to Gao Jie Ming and the other newly arrived wizards, finally giving a specific nod to Gao Jie Ming as a greeting.
Hearing Jack's earlier question, Levin Mills shook his head regretfully: "The space distortion; the internal area is larger than expected, and the region we need to search keeps expanding. The first batch of reconnaissance modified beasts we deployed is nearly reaching the limit of our control range, yet we have still found nothing."
He then glanced at Gao Jie Ming and the other wizards behind Jack, frowning slightly.
Clearly, he was dissatisfied with the strength and number of these newcomers: "You only managed to recruit this many people?"
Jack saw his dissatisfaction but could do nothing about it.
He sighed helplessly: "Many wizards outside are currently busy developing other rich resources of the 'Sky Domain Plane' and simply have no time to pay attention to this matter. Finding these people is already quite good."
Hearing this, Levin Mills also felt quite helpless.
However, he also knew the current situation of the plane, so he said nothing more and beckoned everyone to follow him into this "Space Distortion" region.
In the eyes of those newly arrived wizards, Levin Mills and Jack simply flew forward a little as usual.
Subsequently, their entire bodies suddenly vanished, as if erased from a scroll by an eraser!
Seeing Jack and Levin Mills walk in so easily, the remaining wizards all hesitated and looked at each other.
Gao Jie Ming had previously used his All-Purpose Eye to observe the area before him and confirmed that it was indeed relatively safe.
Therefore, he felt no fear and flew over first.
Arriving at the spot where the two had vanished, he tentatively reached out his finger to touch forward; then, he saw the scene before his eyes suddenly change!
The figures of Jack and Levin Mills once again appeared out of thin air right in front of him.
So this is the "Spatial Distortion" zone?
During the spatial leap, there was absolutely no sensation!
Doesn't that mean if a wizard accidentally encounters such a place in the wild, they might not even realize they have fallen into a deadly trap and become lost?
Gao Jie Ming felt a chill run through his heart.
Shortly after, he noticed something was amiss.
In his field of vision, Jack and Levin Mills before him appeared to be standing upside down.
Moreover, Gao Jie Ming felt a powerful pulling force emanating from above his head, as if trying to drag him upward.
He immediately realized the truth.
They were not upside down; rather, he himself was flying in an inverted position!
Furthermore, this "Spatial Distortion" zone actually possessed gravity within it?!
Seeing the two others standing steadily on thick clouds resembling cotton pads, Gao Jie Ming hastily adjusted his posture and carefully descended slowly.
He discovered that this layer of soft-looking mist beneath his feet was actually "solid"!
However, the mist was not particularly firm; stepping on it gave a slightly illusory and sinking sensation, as if treading on clumps of soft cotton.
Although it seemed unable to support his entire body weight, this land composed of mist indeed provided sufficient gravitational pull!
Other wizards had by now followed in one after another, likewise discovering the strangeness of this area.
Levin Mills, perceiving the confusion among Gao Jie Ming and the others, smiled and explained:
"This is the most unique aspect of this 'Spatial Distortion' zone. Because a massive amount of matter, likely swept in from elsewhere, has converged within this same region, it has reformed a rare 'gravity' within the aerial plane."
"However, it is best for you to maintain a flying state. These clouds serving as the 'ground' themselves contain vast quantities of pure wind elements, within which many unknown, small-scale 'spatial distortions' likely exist."
"Once a person becomes entirely immersed in these clouds, with good fortune, they might merely be randomly teleported by the spatial distortion to another location within this zone. With bad fortune, they could be instantly torn apart by those chaotic spatial currents!"
"However, it seems that because vast amounts of wind elements have converged at the periphery of this space, forming this current 'distorted space,' the region above this 'ground' is instead quite stable. When flying here, there is no need to worry too much."
Gao Jie Ming had originally been curiously testing the pile of mist below with his foot, but upon hearing Levin Mills' words, he, like the other wizards who had just entered, subconsciously caused himself to fly slightly higher.
