Chapter 117: Grandma, you're better, you remember me
Upon hearing Chenchen's voice, Qin Laofuren's body stiffened slightly. She turned her head, met Lin Jingshu's cold and heartless face, and asked, "Chenchen, where are the younger siblings your mother gave birth to for you?"
Lin Jingshu finished her cup of tea indifferently and said cold-bloodedly, "That child died."
Lin Jingshu raised her eyes and looked at Qin Laofuren: "It died the moment it was born. Qin Shu suffered a hemorrhage, and it was nearly two lives lost in one."
Qin Laofuren's figure swayed, her eyes turning blood-red, every word dripping with blood: "It was you who killed that child!"
Her voice was filled with immense grief: "You harmed my Huahua!"
Lin Jingshu curled her lips in a cold sneer: "Qin Laofuren, I respect you, but everything must be based on evidence."
Her gaze was sharp: "I see you are old and useless, and your mind has become muddled."
"To think you would make such false accusations."
"Qin Shu's car accident had absolutely nothing to do with us."
Qin Laofuren walked out of the Gu Family Old Residence with a stumbling gait, appearing to have aged significantly overnight.
Having lived for so many years, Qin Laofuren had witnessed some of the sordid tactics of the wealthy elite; she naturally knew that by letting her enter the door today, Lin Jingshu was merely using the opportunity to humiliate this old woman.
The child of her Huahua was actually being raised by Lin Jingshu and that mistress, Chu Sheng.
Who was Chu Sheng? She was the daughter born to the woman with whom Qin Shu's biological father had an affair.
The Gu Family was carving a knife into the heart of her Huahua.
For so many years, she had been muddled, her consciousness seemingly clear yet hazy, but for the first time, like today, her consciousness was so clear.
Her Huahua had always reported only the good news and never the bad. Regarding everything about the Gu Family, she had always spoken only of the good side, saying that Gu Tingyan loved and respected her, that Gu Laoyezi treated her like his own granddaughter, and that her mother-in-law also adored her.
Qin Laofuren had believed it, thinking she had been living very well all these years.
It was only when Huahua rarely confided in her that she was pregnant with a second child and wanted to abort it but couldn't bear to, that she came to the nursing home to ask for her thoughts.
The children of the Qin Family were all sentimental and loyal.
If not for Jiang Chenxue, she would not have known that Huahua had been living so arduously and suffering so painfully in the Gu Family.
Qin Shu had just returned from filming an advertisement. The advertiser invited her to dinner, and after the meal, Qin Shu drove home. As soon as she entered, she discovered a pair of unfamiliar women's shoes placed at the entrance.
Qin Shu walked inside and saw Chu Sheng sitting on the sofa, along with Gu Tingyan, who was lying on the sofa, drunk.
Chu Sheng sat on the sofa, leaning over to carefully wipe Gu Tingyan's neck with a handkerchief. The two were in an intimate posture, the woman's demeanor resembling that of a wife.
Hearing the movement at the door, Chu Sheng curled her lips, raised her eyes slightly, and seeing Qin Shu enter, she smiled faintly: "Qin Shu, why are you only just back?"
Her tone and manner were as if she were the mistress of the house, and Qin Shu was merely a maid she had hired.
Qin Shu: "Why are you here?"
"Tingyan was drunk, and Auntie Lin asked me to bring him home and take good care of him."
She stood up and smiled indifferently: "Since you are back, I will leave this to you."
"You must take good care of Tingyan, otherwise, Auntie Lin will blame you."
"Oh, don't you misunderstand."
Qin Shu knew Chu Sheng's intentions toward Gu Tingyan; saying this was something not even a ghost would believe.
Qin Shu: "Misunderstand what?"
"You don't learn the noble arts, but insist on learning the base ones?"
"We are not divorced, so you will always be a mistress who cannot see the light of day."
Chu Sheng's expression darkened: "Don't speak so harshly. Who is a mistress?"
Whoever the title of mistress is pinned on, that person will have their spine poked for a lifetime.
If she, Chu Sheng, were to rise to power, it would be upright and legitimate—she would be Gu Tingyan's wife!
"Tingyan and I are pure and innocent!"
Qin Shu sneered: "Pure and innocent? Does it still count as innocent once you've slept together?"
"Do you dare to announce to the public what is going on between you and Gu Tingyan?"
Chu Sheng choked; Gu Tingyan did not allow her to speak of it, and even that ambiguous text message from before had been deleted at Gu Tingyan's command.
She dared not speak; Gu Tingyan was not divorced, and making a big scene would do her no good—others would only curse her.
Like her mother, who had been Mrs. Chu for so many years, the noblewomen of high society still looked down on her background.
They only despised her as a woman who rose to power as a mistress, using underhanded methods.
"Qin Shu, don't be smug." Chu Sheng looked at her coldly: "Tingyan will be mine sooner or later!"
She walked out in her high heels, and Qin Shu took the pair of worn women's shoes and threw them directly into the trash can.
On the living room sofa, Gu Tingyan was drunk to the point of unconsciousness, his mouth constantly murmuring, calling only Qin Shu's name.
"Huahua."
"Huahua, don't go."
Qin Shu walked closer, hearing his murmurs, her gaze falling on his neck, where there was a faint hickey.
Qin Shu turned to go upstairs, only to be hugged from behind by the man: "Huahua, don't go, I beg you, don't go."
Qin Shu's footsteps paused slightly; she looked down at the hands wrapped around her waist and reached out to pry them off one by one.
A drunken man, pushed hard by her, fell back onto the sofa. Her eyes held a trace of disgust: "Don't come and disgust me."
Having done such disgusting, shameful things with Chu Sheng, how could he have the nerve to call her name?
Qin Shu felt that she shouldn't have come back today, interrupting Gu Tingyan's good time.
If she had returned any later, the two of them would likely have been in bed.
Qin Shu sneered in her heart, swept a faint glance at Gu Tingyan on the sofa, and turned to go upstairs.
Qin Shu went upstairs, and after washing up, she sent a message to her grandmother, saying happily: "Grandma, I earned quite a bit of money today."
"I filmed an advertisement, and the company gave me three million."
It was the first time Qin Shu had filmed such an expensive advertisement. After becoming famous, her career became increasingly prosperous, and she received more advertisements than she could handle.
Very quickly, the person on the other side replied to her message.
Grandmother: "Huahua is truly wonderful."
Qin Shu was pleasantly surprised; Grandmother usually did not remember who she was and rarely replied to her messages. Scrolling up, it was basically just Qin Shu talking to herself.
Qin Shu made a video call, and Qin Laofuren answered; her spirit seemed to have returned to the state before she fell ill, her gaze firm and vigorous.
Qin Laofuren looked at her affectionately: "Huahua."
Qin Shu's eyes turned red, her voice happy: "Grandmother, are you better?"
"Mm, Grandmother is better."
"From now on, my Huahua will never have to worry again."
She remembered everything, and she had not forgotten little Qin Shu either.
Qin Shu was so happy that her eyes welled up with tears; she pestered Grandmother to chat for the entire night, talking about a whole heap of gossip, while Qin Laofuren listened to her with a smile, watching her little granddaughter chatter away incessantly.
This moment in time seemed to have returned to when the old man was still around, and when Zhiyun was still around.
The grandmother and granddaughter chatted until five in the morning; in the end, Qin Shu was too exhausted and could not fight off the sleepiness, so she slumped over on her pillow and fell asleep.
Through the screen, Qin Laofuren just watched Qin Shu's face intently, raising her hand to stroke her well-behaved and adorable face.
