Chapter 121: Severe Depression

~8 min read 1,442 words

Chu Xuanming sat in his office, feeling restless all day, always sensing that something was about to happen.

His private phone rang, and the man answered: "What is it?"

The person on the other end said in a low voice: "President Chu, that person from the Qin Family has passed away."

"How did she die?"

"I heard it was suicide by swallowing pills."

"The Eldest Miss has already rushed over."

Chu Xuanming was startled, his brows furrowed tightly; Qin Zhiyun's mother had actually died.

In this world, the only person left who had a connection to him and Qin Zhiyun was Qin Shu.

Chu Xuanming said coldly: "You don't need to report anything about the Qin Family to me from now on."

The man hung up the phone, walked to the window, and lit a cigarette. His tall, upright silhouette stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, a scarlet cigarette butt burning at his fingertips as he curled his lips in a cold sneer: "Xiaoyun, your mother is dead too."

"Now, you only have this daughter, Qin Shu, left."

As for Gu Yichen, he didn't count as a member of the Qin Family at all; he belonged to the Gu Family.

The only thing truly left of the Qin Family was Qin Shu; if Qin Shu died too, the Qin Family would disappear from this world completely.

Chu Xuanming looked back at the document on the table, his eyes narrowing slightly, and he made a call to notify the Chu Family's public relations department: "Announce the news of the marriage alliance with the Gu Family."

"Yes, President Chu."

Gu Tingyan kept dragging his feet on the divorce, Chu Chen needed an official status, and Chu Sheng could not wait for Gu Tingyan forever.

Chu Xuanming had discussed it with Gu Huaiyuan to find an opportunity and a suitable person to get the divorce papers for those two finalized directly.

Qin Shu would just be considered the mistress Gu Tingyan kept on the side, while the eldest daughter-in-law recognized by the Gu Family was Chu Sheng.

As for Gu Yichen, his legs were ruined, and the Gu Family would be Chenchen's sooner or later.

Qin Shu rushed to her old home in the countryside, and Su Tuantuan and Ji Yanli accompanied her to handle her grandmother's funeral arrangements, burying her grandmother next to her grandfather.

After the Qin Family fell, the relatives of the past no longer associated with them; when Qin Laofuren passed away, not a single relative came to pay their respects.

After the identification results came out, Ji Yanli called Qin Shu, but the call wouldn't go through; it wasn't until he called Su Tuantuan that he learned Grandma Qin was gone.

When Ji Yanli arrived at the Qin Family's old home, the house was draped in white cloth, quiet to a terrifying degree.

Ji Yanli entered the room and happened to see Qin Shu carrying Qin Laofuren on her back down the stairs; her complexion was deathly pale.

The man saw this scene, his eyes turning red, and he walked over quickly to take Qin Laofuren from her.

"Let me."

Qin Shu did not give her grandmother to him, her voice hoarse: "Let me carry Grandma one last time."

"When I was little, she was always the one carrying me."

Ji Yanli: "Okay."

"Has the cemetery been booked?"

Qin Shu: "Yes, Grandma bought it a long time ago."

Ji Yanli's phone rang; he answered it—it was a call from his company. The man spoke a few brief words and then hung up.

For the once-glorious Qin Family, with the passing of Qin Laofuren, it was Ji Yanli and Su Tuantuan who were busy running around; the three of them laid Qin Laofuren to rest.

After burying the ashes in the cemetery, the sky was already bright.

Qin Shu returned from the cemetery, and the moment she stepped through the door, she collapsed onto the floor.

Su Tuantuan: "Xiao Hua!"

Ji Yanli: "Xiao Hua!"

Qin Shu woke up again in the hospital; the pungent smell of the hospital was unpleasant.

Seeing her wake up, Su Tuantuan noticed Qin Shu was even thinner, her chin sharp, and her eyes turned red: "Xiao Hua."

"If you're in pain, just cry it out."

Qin Shu could not cry.

She said softly: "I can't cry."

"Tuanzi, I'm fine."

"Birth, old age, sickness, and death—everyone will die one day."

Hearing this, Su Tuantuan felt as if her heart were being sliced by a knife; she cried until she could barely breathe, sobbing uncontrollably.

Inside the hospital room, there was nothing but the sound of Su Tuantuan's wailing.

Ji Yanli waited until the crying inside grew quieter before pushing the door open to enter, carrying a thermos, and looking at Qin Shu while forcing a smile: "You're awake, drink some porridge."

Qin Shu nodded; as she prepared to get out of bed, she saw the needle mark on the back of her hand and said in a hoarse voice: "What happened to me?"

Ji Yanli's face turned pale, and his knuckles turned white as he gripped the thermos.

Su Tuantuan's eyes were flustered, and she quickly replied: "You just fainted from low blood sugar."

Qin Shu sat back down: "Oh."

Ji Yanli walked over to adjust the hospital bed, set up the small table for her, and placed the porridge on the table, arranging it properly.

Qin Shu had only taken a few bites when her stomach churned; she quickly pulled over the trash can and couldn't help but lean over the side of the bed and vomit.

Su Tuantuan patted Qin Shu's back, her voice anxious: "Xiao Hua."

After vomiting, Qin Shu wiped her mouth with a tissue and lay back on the bed, her voice weak: "I'm fine."

"Tuanzi, I might need to take some time off."

"I can't work in this state; I'll just be a burden to others."

Su Tuantuan nodded with red eyes: "Okay, I'll apply for it for you."

America.

Gu Tingyan had just finished dealing with the other company; regarding the price, the specific quantity would be negotiated tomorrow, and they were just one final step away from signing this multi-billion dollar contract.

Gu Lichuan walked out from inside, dressed in a suit and leather shoes, and looked at Gu Tingyan with a smile on his face: "Congratulations, elder brother, on securing this major project."

Gu Tingyan curled his lips faintly and smiled: "You are still young; your future is promising."

"Elder brother won't engage in false pleasantries with you."

Gu Huaiyuan had said that whoever among Gu Tingyan and Gu Lichuan secured this major business deal would be given five percent of the shares in Gu Group as an incentive.

Gu Lichuan had made countless preparations for this business deal, and he did not believe he was a notch behind Gu Tingyan in terms of ability.

Wasn't the only reason Gu Tingyan was so formidable because he had Gu Laoyezi backing him?

Yet, during his time studying abroad, Gu Lichuan had started his own company in his freshman year and had achieved complete financial independence by his senior year.

He considered himself more capable than Gu Tingyan and had originally intended to have a fair competition.

He had not expected that he would actually lose to Gu Tingyan.

Gu Lichuan watched Gu Tingyan's departing back, his lowered eyes revealing an ambiguous expression.

It was he who had underestimated Gu Tingyan.

Gu Lichuan's expression was gloomy; as soon as Chu Sheng walked out and saw his unpleasant look, she stepped forward in her high heels, walking toward Gu Lichuan with a smile.

"I have some good news to tell you; do you want to hear it?" She curled her lips into a smile.

Gu Lichuan's eyes narrowed slightly: "What kind of good news could you possibly bring me?"

"Could it be that you're pregnant again?"

Chu Sheng's expression changed slightly: "Can you stop talking nonsense?"

Gu Lichuan gave a frivolous laugh.

No matter what the final outcome was, he would always win and never lose.

He hadn't expected that a tryst from many years ago could still give him such a big surprise.

Chu Sheng actually dared to secretly give birth to his child and pin it on Gu Tingyan?

Even he had almost believed it.

"You even dared to let my seed call Gu Tingyan 'father,' yet your courage is so small?"

He sneered with disdain.

Chu Sheng's expression changed abruptly: "Gu Lichuan, do you not want to live anymore?"

She looked at the man's frivolous face, frowned, hurriedly changed the subject, and said coldly: "Qin Shu's grandmother is dead."
