Chapter 123: Huahua, I beg you, don't treat me like this

~7 min read 1,357 words

The vast manor was silent, so quiet that it felt as if one could hear the chaotic and tangled heart of Gu Tingyan.

The man's tall and upright figure stood at the doorway, standing there as stiff as a sculpture, staring at this door for a long time.

So long that Gu Tingyan had almost forgotten the time.

He had never imagined that one day he would be afraid to face Qin Shu.

Until he heard the sound of glass shattering in the room, Gu Tingyan hurriedly pushed the door open and went in, his footsteps hurried, his voice anxious: "Huahua."

The room was pitch black, the curtains drawn tight, exuding a suffocating, lingering atmosphere; Gu Tingyan pressed the switch in the room.

In the room, Qin Shu had collapsed on the floor, glass shards having cut a bloody gash in her palm, fresh blood flowing out along her palm.

Gu Tingyan walked over and carefully picked her up from the floor: "Does it hurt?"

He immediately went to check Qin Shu's palm; fortunately, the glass had only scratched her palm and had not pierced into the flesh.

Gu Tingyan carried her downstairs, placed her on the sofa, dragged over the medical kit, and opened the medicine to put it on the table.

He half-knelt in front of Qin Shu, holding a cotton swab to carefully treat the wound on her palm.

Qin Shu did not even blink, her eyes just staring hollowly at the bright red bloodstain on her palm, her gaze listless and unfocused.

After Gu Tingyan finished treating her wound, he held her tightly in his arms, as if wanting to knead her into his very bones.

"Huahua, I'm sorry."

"I returned the moment I heard the news about Grandma."

"But it takes time to return from America."

"I'm sorry, I didn't know such a thing would happen to Grandma."

Clearly, her mental state had already improved a lot; the doctor said she had regained consciousness and had returned to her hometown with Qin Shu.

So Gu Tingyan had not made her stay in the nursing home every day, nor had he continued to have bodyguards follow her.

When old people get on in years, they all like to return to their roots and live in their hometown.

Gu Tingyan thought everything was developing in a good direction.

He never expected Grandma would commit suicide.

Gu Tingyan was terrified in his heart now; he always felt that he couldn't hold onto Qin Shu, that she was like sand in his hands, ready to slip away at any moment.

Hearing Gu Tingyan's words, Qin Shu raised her hand and slapped him.

Gu Tingyan's cheek was knocked to the side, his head buzzing.

He took the slap, his head lowered and the corners of his eyes reddened, not making a sound, only using his arms to hold her tightly in his embrace.

Qin Shu had no expression, looking at him indifferently, and said coldly: "Gu Tingyan, either you let me go."

"Or you kill me."

The words in the woman's mouth were so cold-blooded and heartless; such icy words felt like a knife stabbing fiercely into Gu Tingyan's heart.

His whole body was stiff, his handsome face filled with endless pain.

The man said in a low, humble voice, in a tone bordering on begging: "Huahua, I beg you, don't treat me like this."

He did not want to divorce Qin Shu.

He did not want to be separated from her.

"Gu Tingyan, I have nothing left for you to scheme for."

"Grandma is dead."

Qin Shu looked at Gu Tingyan with red eyes, saying every word with blood-tears: "Do you know how she died?"

"She didn't want to be a burden to me."

Two lines of clear tears flowed down Qin Shu's cheeks: "It was I who killed her."

"If I hadn't signed that contract, Jiang Chenxue wouldn't have discovered it and used it to humiliate my grandmother," Qin Shu said with a trembling voice.

Why Grandma committed suicide, Ji Yanli had sent people to investigate clearly.

Before the incident with Grandma, Jiang Chenxue had bribed people at the nursing home to go in and see her, saying some very nasty things to Grandma to provoke her.

Qin Shu felt as if she had done something wrong.

She shouldn't have signed it back then.

Why didn't she notice Grandma's abnormality sooner, why didn't she stay by Grandma's side.

Qin Shu had also thought that after Grandma had been ill for so many years, this illness had finally healed.

She thought she would have a home again in the future.

But Grandma had left her.

Hearing Qin Shu's words, Gu Tingyan's whole body stiffened, endless regret and pain surging from the depths of his eyes.

That contract—he was the one who had forced Qin Shu to sign it back then.

If he hadn't been desperate and panicked, afraid of losing Qin Shu, he wouldn't have signed that contract, and it wouldn't have been seen by others and used to make a scene.

When it all came down to it, Gu Tingyan was the real culprit.

Gu Tingyan was stiff all over, unable to accept this news no matter what.

His documents were kept in the drawer in the CEO's office; who was bold enough to go in and rummage through his desk?

Gu Tingyan watched Qin Shu cry uncontrollably, the pain like ice-tempered needles, densely stabbing into his bone joints.

His heart felt as if it were being gripped by an invisible hand, every contraction bringing a sense of suffocation; cold sweat slid down his temples into his collar, making him shiver from the chill.

Gu Tingyan held Qin Shu tightly, not daring to let go, and only when she had cried herself tired and fallen asleep did he dare to catch his breath.

Gu Tingyan walked out on tiptoe, went to the balcony to make a phone call, his face as gloomy as ink: "In this recent period, who has been to my office?"

Gu Tingyan's voice was like ice, making one feel terrified from the bottom of their heart.

The secretary-general thought seriously, remembering that when she went to the CEO's office to report work that day, intending to have Gu Tingyan sign a contract, she saw Chu Sheng in Gu Tingyan's office.

Employees in the company were not allowed to go to the CEO's office without permission, but because of the special relationship between Chu Sheng and Gu Tingyan.

The Secretary-General did not dare to say a word of dissent.

If Chu Sheng were to whisper sweet nothings in Gu Tingyan's ear, her job would be lost.

The Secretary-General answered truthfully: "Miss Chu has been here."

"That day, I went in to have the President sign a contract, and she was sitting in your chair."

Upon hearing that Chu Sheng had been inside, the expression on Gu Tingyan's face turned ferocious, as terrifyingly cold as ice.

"From now on, Chu Sheng is not allowed to enter my office."

"Additionally, fire Chu Sheng."

Gu Tingyan's voice was like ice: "Notify the security guards at the entrance; from now on, if they see Chu Sheng at Gu Group, they are not to let her in!"

The Secretary-General shivered suddenly; what could Miss Chu have done to make the President so furious? She only felt that the President's voice was terrifying.

"Yes."

Gu Tingyan hung up the phone, his chest still heavy with a sinking pain, and a sense of unease continuously spread across his heart, leaving him feeling unsettled.

Gu Tingyan glanced toward the second floor, feeling uneasy, and strode toward the stairs.

He pushed the door open and saw Qin Shu holding a handful of white pills to her mouth; Gu Tingyan's expression changed instantly.

He stepped forward quickly, grabbed Qin Shu's wrist, and his voice trembled slightly: "What are you taking!"

Qin Shu looked up at him: "Medicine prescribed by the doctor."

She did not know what illness she had, but Ji Yanli made her take the medicine on time every day, and he would supervise her to ensure she finished it daily.
