Chapter 146: First Meeting Between Biological Brothers
Sometimes being too clever is not necessarily a good thing.
It could even become his death warrant.
A tall tree catches the wind; when a tree stands out in the forest, the wind will surely destroy it.
This was something Gu Yichen learned at the age of five, a lesson that cut to the bone.
In that blizzard, it was a forced growth bought at the price of a leg, a car accident, and a human life.
For these past four years, it seemed as though Gu Yichen was falling into depravity, his grades dropping, his Dao heart ruined by a leg injury, sinking into deep inferiority, plummeting to the bottom of his class.
In reality, this was a five-year-old child forced to grow up, beginning a four-year-long scheme, or perhaps an even longer smokescreen.
He had no ability to protect his life, nor the right to say no.
Therefore, only if others took the initiative to abandon him and ignore him,
could he break free from his shackles and constraints.
Facing Gu Tingyan's pressure, Gu Yichen's small face turned slightly pale, his lips moving slightly: "I will rank in the top three of the grade, please rest assured."
If not for today's events, Gu Yichen would have agreed to Gu Tingyan without hesitation to study abroad.
This was something he longed for, to be far away from the Gu Family and never return.
Gu Yichen had even decided on the country for his studies; he would go to the country furthest from China, so that even if the Gu Family wanted to find him, it would take them a great deal of time to return.
However, Gu Yichen did not want to leave now.
He wanted to stay.
Hearing the person opposite him say this, Gu Tingyan slightly raised his black eyes to look at him: "No regrets?"
Gu Yichen: "Mm."
Gu Tingyan stared at him with deep eyes, sizing him up; he knew what his son was plotting, and he was happy to indulge him.
Yet with the opportunity placed before him, Gu Yichen refused to leave the Gu Family.
Gu Tingyan asked nonchalantly: "Didn't you want to leave the Gu Family long ago? Why did you suddenly change your mind?"
Gu Yichen's body stiffened slightly, looking at Gu Tingyan with a pale face: "I didn't."
In the young boy's beautiful eyes, as he looked at him, there seemed to be a hint of wariness and fear.
Four years ago, the child before him would still act like a spoiled brat in his arms; although precocious, Gu Yichen had craved intimate contact with him as a father.
To Gu Yichen, Gu Tingyan was mysterious and powerful, and he craved his father's affection and care.
He wanted to receive Gu Tingyan's attention anytime and anywhere, wanting his father's love.
But four years later, Gu Yichen no longer held that initial filial affection for Gu Tingyan.
There was even a bit more wariness and resistance.
He had categorized Gu Tingyan, Lin Jingshu, and Gu Huaiyuan into the same camp, and did not feel close to him.
This was the son of Gu Tingyan and Qin Shu; looking at him, Gu Tingyan could not help but think of the deceased Qin Shu.
Gu Tingyan's feelings for Gu Yichen were also complex; sometimes he wanted to cherish him, but seeing him reminded him of Qin Shu, making Gu Tingyan want to escape.
For these four years, Gu Tingyan had been busy with his own work, almost ignoring Gu Yichen's growth.
Gu Tingyan's heart ached slightly; he looked at Gu Yichen opposite him, the man closing his eyes slightly, his thin lips parting: "If you want something, go fight for it."
"Escaping reality is the most foolish approach."
"Do you think that if you flee the Gu Family, they will let you go?"
Gu Tingyan wiped the corners of his mouth with a tissue: "Chenchen, you are ultimately just a child, underestimating their methods and ruthlessness."
"Unless you hide in the mountains like a caveman and never come out for the rest of your life."
Gu Tingyan's gaze was cold: "Are you willing to live that kind of savage life?"
Gu Yichen was born different from others; of course, he would not be willing to live that kind of life in hiding.
He only wanted to get rid of the Gu Family, go to a place where no one was, and live the ordinary, plain life a normal person should have.
But he had forgotten the terror of adults; he carried Gu Tingyan's blood, he was his only bloodline.
If the Chu Family truly gained a firm foothold in the Gu Family, the first person they would want to eliminate was him.
Gu Tingyan did not want to drag his son too much into these adult disputes, but born into the Gu Family, this was his fate.
Gu Yichen clenched his fingers, looked up at Gu Tingyan, and asked solemnly: "Will you really marry Chu Sheng?"
"Are you going to make her my stepmother?"
Gu Tingyan paused: "No."
Gu Tingyan stood up, finished speaking, and turned to leave the dining room.
Having received the answer, Gu Yichen sat in his chair, stunned.
He stared at Gu Tingyan's tall and upright figure, his small face filled with confusion and doubt.
Since he would not marry that woman, why agree to the engagement with the Chu Family?
The next day.
Gu Yichen got up very early and went to school; he had A Zhong drop him off at the entrance and then let him leave.
He stood at the corner of the school gate with his backpack for a full hour before seeing a black car slowly drive up.
The car door opened, Qin Shu stepped out, and then she hugged a chubby little boy from the car; the little boy got out and reached out to hold Qin Shu's hand.
Gu Yichen looked at that little chubby boy; his features were very similar to Qin Shu's, and a thought popped into his mind, making his face turn a few shades paler.
Ji Yanli then stepped out from the other side; he bent down to pick up the little chubby boy, who happily wrapped his arms around his neck.
Today was Nangong Jin's first official day of school; Ji Yanli and Qin Shu both took it very seriously and came to send him to school.
The little fellow stood at the entrance with his backpack, shouting crisply to the two of them: "Mom and Dad, remember to come pick me up early after school, okay!"
"Alright, hurry and go in."
Having received a satisfactory reply, Nangong Jin stood on his tiptoes in front of the facial recognition machine, his small backpack on his back, and looked up to scan his face.
He scanned his face to enter, carrying a small schoolbag and skipping along.
He had a dad and a mom now too!
Nangong Jin had deliberately shouted that out at the entrance just now; he, the young master, wanted face, and he wanted to announce loudly that he was also someone who had a dad and a mom!
He was certainly not some little bastard without a father or mother.
Gu Yichen heard that "dad and mom," his little face turning pale; he hadn't expected that his mother was already married and had even given birth to a younger brother for him.
Only after Qin Shu and Ji Yanli left did Gu Yichen walk out from around the corner; he stood in place with his schoolbag on his back, watching that fellow ahead who was carrying a small schoolbag and wiggling his little bottom as he entered the classroom.
His half-brother from the same mother but a different father.
Nangong Jin's footsteps paused; he looked back with his schoolbag on his back and saw Gu Yichen standing not far away watching him, his little face stern; out of reflex, he fiercely said, "What are you looking at?"
"Haven't you ever seen my dad and mom dropping me off at school?"
Gu Yichen stared at this little fatty for a glance, pursed his lips, stopped looking at him, and lifted his feet to walk into his own classroom.
The first grade and the third grade were both on the first floor, separated by only one classroom in between.
Nangong Jin saw that person walking into the third grade with a strange gait; his leg seemed to be disabled, he was a little cripple.
Nangong Jin stood in place, frantically scratching his hair with a frantic look on his face, and suddenly some guilt welled up in his heart.
He had just yelled at this little cripple!
