Chapter 155: He Calls Ji Yanli Dad
Qin Shu saw Nangong Jin standing behind Gu Yichen and narrowed her eyes: The little brat, he actually followed here.
When did he and Chenchen recognize each other?
Qin Shu actually didn't even know.
Ji Yanli also saw Nangong Jin, his eyes carrying a trace of surprise, especially when he saw that Gu Yichen was in front of him.
Nangong Jin secretly sized up Qin Shu, but he dared not acknowledge her right now.
But why was it that every time he looked at his mother, Qin Shu happened to look over?
"Huahua..." A man's low, magnetic, and hoarse voice came from beside her ear.
Gu Tingyan's gaze fell upon the arm she had linked with Ji Yanli, his heart aching as if pierced by a knife; when had they become so intimate?
Gu Tingyan had many things he wanted to ask Qin Shu, about what exactly happened with that car accident four years ago.
The police had informed him that Qin Shu was in the car, the car had exploded violently, and there was nothing left of her.
Why was she still alive these four years, yet did not come back to find him?
Did she know how he had spent these four years? Every day felt like a year, living in pain and sorrow every single moment, unable to move on.
"Tingyan." Chu Sheng saw Gu Tingyan walking toward Qin Shu, and her expression changed instantly, her heart rising to her throat.
She looked at Qin Shu, who had died four years ago, appearing at her most important engagement party, and her heart felt as if it were blocked by something.
She could neither spit it out nor swallow it.
Chu Sheng walked over, linked her arm with Gu Tingyan's, and began to assert her claim.
She didn't care why Qin Shu didn't die in the car accident back then, or why she suddenly appeared four years later; she would never allow her to snatch Gu Tingyan away from her side again!
"Qin Shu, you're back?" Chu Sheng linked her arm with Gu Tingyan's, inadvertently letting the engagement ring on her hand show, flaunting it to Qin Shu.
Qin Shu withdrew her gaze from Nangong Jin, her eyes falling on that engagement ring of Chu Sheng's, a playful, half-smiling look on her face: "This ring looks really familiar."
Qin Shu looked at Gu Tingyan, the corners of her lips curling slightly: "Isn't this the ring you screened and gave to me before?"
Back then, Lin Jingshu had asked him to choose an engagement ring, and for some reason, Gu Tingyan's gaze had fallen upon the very ring Qin Shu had taken a liking to.
The two were going through a divorce at the time; Qin Shu knew the origin of the ring and took it off, and Gu Tingyan wanted to compensate her, so he bought her a new one.
But Qin Shu didn't want it, just like she had discarded him, just like this marriage.
Lin Jingshu then took that pair of rings to be his and Chu Sheng's engagement rings.
Upon hearing this, Chu Sheng's expression changed abruptly; she had thought this was something Gu Tingyan had carefully selected for her.
She hadn't expected it to be something Qin Shu had picked out and rejected, only then becoming cheap enough for her.
Wearing that ring, Chu Sheng suddenly felt it was very off-putting and felt deeply disgusted.
She wanted to take it off and throw it into the trash can, but this was her engagement ring, and she didn't want to lose face in front of Qin Shu!
Chu Sheng's fingers pinched until they turned white; she looked at Qin Shu as if facing a formidable enemy, her whole body trembling with rage, yet she had to force herself to look calm as she said through gritted teeth: "You and Tingyan are already divorced."
"I am engaged to him now, he is my man."
She said this, wanting to see a pained expression on Qin Shu's face.
But there was none.
Qin Shu's face remained calm and indifferent, without the slightest bit of concern.
She had once loved Gu Tingyan so much, loved him to the point that she was willing to do anything for him.
Now, however, she was not sad or afraid in the slightest.
Qin Shu smiled faintly, reached out her hand, and in full view of everyone, looked at the two of them with poise: "I wish you both a happy engagement."
Gu Tingyan felt his whole body stiffen upon hearing this; he looked up at Qin Shu in disbelief, as if trying to see through her body and into her soul.
Qin Shu was actually blessing him and another woman.
How could she be so heartless?
How could she treat him like this?
Gu Tingyan's heart felt as if it had been ground into the dust by someone, his heart ruthlessly trampled underfoot.
Gu Tingyan's pitch-black eyes stared right at Qin Shu, his eyes revealing endless sorrow and self-mockery.
Four years, four whole years, she was alive, yet she never came back to see him even once.
She left him to live in endless pain and regret, struggling in the abyss.
Gu Tingyan did not believe she was dead, but he had searched for four whole years and had not found Qin Shu.
There were women with voices like Qin Shu's, appearances like Qin Shu's, and personalities like Qin Shu's, but none of them were her.
Gu Tingyan had been like a madman; whenever he saw a back that looked like Qin Shu's on the street, he would chase after it like a maniac.
But when he saw that strange face clearly, it was never Qin Shu.
Lin Jingshu stepped forward quickly, blocking Gu Tingyan's path, and looked at Qin Shu, her gaze falling on her and Ji Yanli with a hint of mockery: "No wonder you didn't come back for four years; so it turns out you've climbed onto another high branch."
Qin Shu looked at her and chuckled: "Mrs. Lin, Gu Tingyan and I were already divorced four years ago."
"Even if I really did climb onto a high branch, what does that have to do with you?"
Qin Shu's lips curled with a hint of sarcasm: "Do you really think you're still my mother-in-law? Who are you trying to boss around here?"
In front of so many high-society dignitaries, Qin Shu dared to be so disrespectful to her, and Lin Jingshu was so angry her face twitched.
Did Qin Shu think that just because she had severed ties with the Gu Family, she couldn't handle her?
Someone from a small, humble background, with no connections and no powerful maternal family to back her up, yet she dared to be so rude to her!
Gu Tingyan's voice was cold: "Mother, she is right; she is no longer your daughter-in-law, you have no right to discipline her."
Hearing her own son still speaking up for his ex-wife, Lin Jingshu became even angrier.
What kind of love potion had Qin Shu fed him!
Gu Tingyan glanced at Qin Shu, then turned his tall, upright figure and left.
Chu Sheng glared fiercely at Qin Shu, then lifted her feet to chase after him: "Tingyan, wait for me!"
Gu Tingyan turned his head, his pitch-black, deep eyes landing on Chu Sheng, carrying an unprecedented coldness and hiding a trace of killing intent, or perhaps it was just Chu Sheng's illusion.
The man's voice remained gentle: "Sheng, let me be quiet by myself for a while."
Chu Sheng stopped in her tracks: "Okay, okay."
Gu Tingyan turned and left.
This engagement banquet, having gone through many twists and turns, finally came to an end.
Fortunately, Gu Tingyan had ultimately become the future son-in-law of the Chu Family and Chu Sheng's fiancé.
Seeing Gu Tingyan leave, Ji Yanli also felt it was dull, so he turned to look at Qin Shu beside him: "Do you want to leave?"
Qin Shu: "Mm."
Qin Shu turned and left, and Nangong Jin snuck after her; once they walked out of the Chu Family gate, Nangong Jin suddenly lunged toward Qin Shu and called out obediently: "Mom."
Mom?
Gu Tingyan held a cigarette between his fingertips, his tall and upright figure standing at the corner; hearing Nangong Jin call Qin Shu "Mom," his heart was fiercely shaken.
Nangong Jin looked at Ji Yanli and called out crisply: "Dad."
Gu Tingyan's face turned deathly pale in an instant, his figure wavering as he almost fell to the ground.
