Chapter 159: Chenchen, what's wrong with you?
The person on the other end paused, then whispered, "I didn't see her in person."
"The CEO took the private elevator with her."
"I can't get to the top floor."
Hearing this, Chu Sheng cursed inwardly: Useless.
To think she had spent so much money to bribe this informant, only for them to leave her with absolutely nothing of use.
Chu Sheng hung up the phone in a rage and sent a message to the detective she had used last time: "Have you found the person?"
Just after she sent it, she discovered she had been blocked; an exclamation mark appeared on the screen.
Chu Sheng: "?"
She called, but the other end wouldn't pick up.
"What is the meaning of this?" Chu Sheng nearly smashed her phone.
This damn detective claimed to be the best, yet after taking Chu Sheng's money, he ran off!
"Ahhhhh!" Chu Sheng was practically going crazy.
Why did Qin Shu have to come back!
Why didn't she just die out there!
As soon as Qin Shu returned, she seemed to become incredibly unlucky, like a heroine whose luck had been sucked away!
Chu Sheng slammed the car door in anger and drove back to the Gu Family Old Residence.
Ever since she got engaged to Gu Tingyan, a room had been specifically set aside for them in the Gu Family Old Residence.
Chu Sheng walked into the Old Residence and sat on the sofa to call Gu Tingyan, but the line kept showing as busy; no one answered.
Chu Sheng watched Gu Yichen walk past her; Gu Yichen was sick and had taken the day off from the hospital, staying at the Gu Family Old Residence.
Chu Sheng walked up to him and held out her hand: "Give me your little watch."
Gu Yichen stopped, unbuckled the genius children's watch from his wrist, and obediently handed it to her.
Chu Sheng used his little watch to call Gu Tingyan, and the call was answered quickly; the man's voice was hoarse: "Hello, Chenchen?"
Chu Sheng's expression stiffened, and she hung up the phone immediately.
She stood where she was, her fingers curled into fists, her face turning slightly pale, then she curled her lips into a mocking smile.
When Gu Yichen called him, he answered in a second, but she had called him so many times, and Gu Tingyan had never once called her back.
He was avoiding her.
Chu Sheng gripped the watch in her hand tightly, turned her head, and asked with a gentle smile: "Chenchen, do you know where your father went?"
Gu Yichen stood there like a student obediently listening to a lecture, raising those dark, heavy eyes to look at Chu Sheng: "I don't know."
Chu Sheng's voice suddenly rose: "How could you not know?"
"Did he go to find Qin Shu?"
Gu Yichen lowered his head: "I really don't know."
"Auntie Chu, I'm just a child; where Dad goes is not something you can control."
"I have even less right to control him."
The implication behind his words was: your man is my dad, and if you don't even know where your own man went, how would I know?
You can't control Gu Tingyan, and I can control him even less.
Chu Sheng walked over, stood in front of Gu Yichen, and reached out to stroke his cheek, smiling brightly: "Chenchen, your mother is back now; do you want your father to be with her?"
"You miss her too, don't you?"
"How could you not feel how sincerely Auntie has treated you these past four years?"
"Chenchen, you have truly broken my heart."
Gu Yichen had a fever, his cheeks burning hot; he looked up at Chu Sheng, his fingers curled at his sides, feeling deathly cold, and he involuntarily took a step back.
This cautious, fearful, and panicked look on his little face made it seem as if Chu Sheng were bullying him.
Chu Sheng was suddenly triggered.
She couldn't get through to Gu Tingyan, yet he could answer Gu Yichen's call.
For these past four years, she had been attentive to everything regarding Gu Yichen, truly treating him as her own son.
Whatever Chenchen had, Chu Sheng would buy a copy for Gu Yichen, never being stingy.
In this world, there was no stepmother better than her.
Chu Sheng considered that she had already done enough.
Gu Yichen was polite and courteous to her, but this politeness was filled with alienation and distance.
He was not like this with Qin Shu; Gu Yichen would always subconsciously look in Qin Shu's direction, his eyes filled with lingering affection and sorrow—that was a child's true, deep longing for his mother.
Gu Yichen had been raised in the Gu Family Old Residence since birth, and his time spent with and opportunities to see Qin Shu were not even as much as what Chu Sheng had had in a single month.
She had spent four whole years with Gu Yichen day and night, yet he had never truly treated her as a mother.
Yet Qin Shu, who had abandoned him and whom he hadn't spent much time with, could make him worry and pine like this.
Chu Sheng gave a strange laugh and stared at him: "Chenchen, are you afraid of me?"
Gu Yichen's body stiffened slightly, and he trembled involuntarily, his lips pressed tightly into a line; after a long while, he spoke in a hoarse voice: "Auntie Chu, I'm not."
Chu Sheng chuckled, walked over to grip his shoulders, crouched down, and reached out to straighten his bowtie: "Why won't you call me 'Mom'?"
"Chenchen, call me 'Mom'."
Gu Yichen's body trembled slightly, his pupils contracted, and he pulled his hands back with force; he took a step back, pressed his lips together, and said nothing.
Chu Sheng's eyes instantly turned incomparably cold; she reached out and grabbed his chin, her gaze icy: "I told you to call me that!"
Gu Yichen looked at her with terror in his eyes, his body constantly retreating, his chest heaving, beads of sweat breaking out on his forehead, and his breathing becoming heavy.
"Let... go..." His whole body was filled with resistance, and he kept trembling.
Chu Sheng looked at him as if she were mad, her eyes cold and sinister, her hands gripping his shoulders, her fingernails sinking into Gu Yichen's flesh as she growled, "I told you to call me Mother, didn't you hear me?"
"Chenchen, have you never accepted me? Hmm?"
Gu Yichen's mind went blank and roared for a moment; his body trembled incessantly, his breathing gradually became difficult, his chest felt tight and short of breath, his breathing grew rapid, his little face turned deathly pale, and he looked at her in panic and helplessness.
His chest heaved more and more violently, he gradually became unable to breathe, he collapsed onto the floor, his body convulsing in spasms, struggling for breath.
That little face turned from deathly pale to a bluish-white, the corners of his lips were terribly white, and his whole body could not stop shaking.
Seeing these symptoms, Chu Sheng's brain buzzed, and she woke up in an instant.
She ran over and hurriedly picked up Gu Yichen from the floor, her face full of panic: "Chenchen, what's wrong with you?"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, Auntie lost control of her emotions just now."
If Gu Yichen died, let alone marrying Gu Tingyan, she feared Gu Tingyan would never want to see her again for the rest of his life.
Chu Sheng held Gu Yichen in terror and ran outside: "Housekeeper, Housekeeper, call a doctor, Chenchen has fainted."
In the conference room.
Qin Shu finished organizing all the materials and data when she suddenly felt a heart attack, and for a moment, she was in such pain that she could not breathe properly.
The area over her heart had just hurt very much.
"What's wrong?" Ji Yanli reached out to support her shoulders, his expression full of worry.
