Chapter 2: Gu Tingyan Dumps Qin Shu Halfway

~8 min read 1,541 words

He must go and find out the truth now!

Gu Tingyan lowered his posture and coaxed her in a low voice: "Qin Shu, be obedient."

Obedient, obedient; she was only bullied by him because she was too obedient.

There was no help for it; who let this dog of a man like that type of Chu Sheng.

Qin Shu liked him, so she was willing to cater to him.

Qin Shu had no choice but to get out of the car; she stood by the side of the road, watching the vehicle speed away, her face ashen, her heart sinking again and again.

"Gu Tingyan! You bastard!" She kicked the grass on the side of the road.

She really didn't know which woman could make him care so much.

Care so much that he would dump his own wife halfway!

Qin Shu cursed Gu Tingyan in her heart, then took out her phone and tapped into a ride-hailing app to start booking a ride.

Because this place was quite far from the city center and there were no residential buildings nearby, very few cars came by.

Qin Shu couldn't get a ride and could only walk forward along the road for a stretch.

Qin Shu was barefoot, carrying her high heels in her hand, and had walked for nearly two kilometers; her feet were almost ruined, yet she still hadn't managed to hail a single car.

Her phone was also about to run out of battery.

"Ding," Qin Shu's phone vibrated, and in the dark of night, it gave her a fright.

She thought it was a ghost.

Fortunately, the moonlight was bright enough tonight, otherwise, she would have really cursed Gu Tingyan's ancestors for eight generations!

Qin Shu saw it was a call from her good best friend Su Tuantuan, and she answered: "Tuanzi."

"Help me, come and pick me up."

Su Tuantuan asked: "What's wrong?"

"Gu Tingyan left after taking a call; he dumped me halfway."

Qin Shu said in a low voice: "There's no village in front and no shop behind here, I can't get a ride."

Su Tuantuan was instantly furious: "Damn it!"

She jumped straight up from her bed, grabbed her keys, and headed out: "Wait for me!"

"Gu Tingyan, that goddamn bastard!"

Gu Tingyan was Su Tuantuan's direct superior; in private, she had cursed him to Qin Shu's face more than once.

Su Tuantuan said while still on the phone: "He must have gone to see Chu Sheng!"

Hearing this name, which had been dead for five years, suddenly mentioned, goosebumps broke out on Qin Shu's arms.

Especially in this desolate wilderness where there was no one around, she felt a creeping dread in her heart.

Qin Shu's face changed slightly, and her voice trembled with fear: "Don't scare me, you know."

"Ever since I was a child, I've been most afraid of ghosts."

Su Tuantuan got into her car, started the engine, and said seriously: "Chu Sheng isn't dead; she's back."

"That person is even more terrifying than a ghost!"

"Boom," a sound like a thunderclap exploded, making Qin Shu's scalp tingle.

"You're joking, right?" Qin Shu's face turned even paler; she was even more afraid.

She just felt as if there were people everywhere around her; how could someone who had already died come back to life?

If Chu Sheng wasn't dead, why didn't she come back then?

Since she was alive, why hadn't she come back in these five years?

"I'm sending you a photo; I found it on my social media feed." Su Tuantuan opened WeChat and sent it to Qin Shu.

"A friend I know took it at the airport."

"This woman looks exactly like Chu Sheng!"

Qin Shu tapped on WeChat and zoomed in on the photo; in the picture, the woman looked sweet and beautiful, wearing a white dress that made her look as lovely as a fairy, smiling very cleanly, like a lotus flower rising from the mud unstained, bright as the moon, pure and flawless.

Wasn't this Chu Sheng?

In an instant, cold sweat broke out on Qin Shu's back, and she felt a gust of eerie wind blow past behind her.

A breeze blew from behind, making her shiver; her body stiffened slightly, and her phone slipped from her fingertips and fell to the ground.

"Bang," a sound like a hammer smashing heavily onto Qin Shu's body.

Qin Shu picked up the phone from the ground, her knuckles turning white; her fingers gripping the phone were stiff, her eyes staring ahead, unable to focus.

Su Tuantuan heard the commotion on the other end and asked worriedly: "Huahua, are you okay?"

Huahua was Qin Shu's nickname.

Su Tuantuan had known Qin Shu since elementary school, and the two only separated in high school; Su Tuantuan's grades weren't as good as Qin Shu's, so she couldn't get into First High School.

Qin Shu spoke very little and didn't like to socialize; she was her only friend, and Su Tuantuan knew all her little secrets.

Qin Shu liked Gu Tingyan, and for this man, she had abandoned almost everything, breaking her wings to stay by his side.

Qin Shu's love was forbearing, restrained, and cautious.

The kind that wouldn't turn back until hitting the southern wall.

One shouldn't meet someone too stunning in their youth, otherwise, the rest of one's life would be filled with regrets.

In her first year of high school, Qin Shu already liked Gu Tingyan, and she had liked him for nine whole years.

To have had him and then lose him could cost her half her life.

Qin Shu's mother passed away in her second year of high school, and her grandfather followed soon after.

Her father hated Qin Shu and her mother; Chu Xuanming didn't acknowledge her at all to the outside world.

Su Tuantuan worried that Gu Tingyan would abandon Qin Shu and go back to find Chu Sheng.

She was afraid Qin Shu would not be able to bear such a painful blow.

She had already suffered enough pain.

When Gu Tingyan loved Chu Sheng the most, Chu Sheng died.

The living can never compete with the dead.

Over these past two years, their relationship had finally eased a little, and just as it was showing signs of improvement, Chu Sheng returned!

The dead white moonlight had come back to life.

This lethality was too strong.

Su Tuantuan worried for her.

A chill welled up in Qin Shu's heart, her fingertips trembled, and her eyelashes fluttered as she said calmly, "I'm fine."

Su Tuantuan comforted her, "Huahua, you still have Chenchen between you and Gu Tingyan, don't worry."

"Mm."

A piercing pain shot through the soles of Qin Shu's feet; she carried her high heels and sat down on the side of the road barefoot: "I can't walk anymore, I'll send you an address."

Just as Qin Shu finished speaking, a car suddenly arrived in front, its bright lights shining on Qin Shu, making her feel dazzled, and she couldn't help but raise her hand to shield her eyes.

The car stopped beside her.

A Zhong opened the car door and stepped out: "Madam, President Gu asked me to come pick you up."

A Zhong was Gu Tingyan's right-hand man, having worked by his side since childhood.

Qin Shu sent a message to Su Tuantuan: "No need to come pick me up, Gu Tingyan sent A Zhong over."

Su Tuantuan: "Okay."

"At least he has a bit of conscience!"

She turned the car around and drove back.

Qin Shu got into the car, and the cabin was silent throughout the journey.

She was not a talkative person; she sat quietly in the car, watching the scenery receding outside the window, her finger joints stiff, her mind in turmoil.

Gu Tingyan drove the car away, watching Qin Shu standing in the rearview mirror; her figure became smaller and smaller, and he sent an address to A Zhong.

This place was remote and it was impossible to hail a taxi; making her walk back would probably cost her her life.

Gu Tingyan also didn't know how Qin Shu, having grown up in the countryside, could be even more delicate than the young ladies in Beijing.

If he touched her even slightly, bruises would appear on her body.

Moreover, Qin Shu was very afraid of pain, afraid of injections, and afraid of taking bitter traditional Chinese medicine.

Gu Tingyan withdrew his gaze from the rearview mirror, his hands resting on the steering wheel as he focused on driving: "Go pick up Qin Shu and bring her back, I have something to do."

A Zhong: "Understood, President Gu."

Throughout the journey, Gu Tingyan's heart was far from as calm as it appeared on the surface, and a storm was already raging within him.

Chu Sheng had come back to life.

It was like a haunting.

Gu Tingyan did not know if this phone call was a prank or if someone was toying with him, but he had to go and confirm it himself!

Furthermore, he could not take Qin Shu with him.

He drove very fast along the way, stopped the car at the entrance of the villa, and strode inside with the keys.
