Chapter 28: She Doesn't Want Him Anymore

~8 min read 1,416 words

"With your mother's paranoid personality, she could have snatched him away from Qin Shu the moment the child was born."

"If you divorce, it's even more impossible for her to let go." Lu Ziqian gave him an analysis.

"If your mother refuses to give him up, she is bound to lose."

Lu Ziqian raised an eyebrow and looked at him: "Once your mother knows of this agreement's existence, do you think she will kill you, or find someone to kill Qin Shu?"

All of Qin Shu's conditions combined were not enough to contend with the Gu Family; even if it went to court, she would have no advantage whatsoever.

One is a Beijing conglomerate, the other is just an obscure female star in the entertainment industry.

Gu Tingyan is not the at-fault party and would not be condemned by public opinion; he did not cheat or commit domestic violence, and regarding the child, she has no chance of winning against the Gu Family.

Gu Tingyan's voice was hoarse: "Remember to keep the contents of the divorce agreement confidential."

After he finished speaking, his phone vibrated. Gu Tingyan picked it up to look; it was sent by Qin Shu: "Tomorrow at the Civil Affairs Bureau, nine in the morning, don't be late."

Seeing this message, Gu Tingyan's expression changed slightly; he put on his suit jacket and strode out.

He had been calling Qin Shu the entire way, but it was always a state of no answer. Gu Tingyan's pace grew faster and faster, and his heart grew more and more panicked.

Gu Tingyan sent a message to Qin Shu: "Pick up the phone!"

Qin Shu did not reply. In the past, she always replied to his messages in seconds and would never let him wait more than half a second.

This time, a long while passed, and there was still no movement from the other side.

Qin Shu was playing for real.

She really intended to separate from Gu Tingyan.

It felt as if something was slipping through his fingers, leaving him unable to grasp it ever again.

The car Gu Tingyan drove was fast; he sped all the way to the villa.

The villa, which was always brightly lit, was pitch black. Usually, when Gu Tingyan returned home, there was always a light left on upstairs waiting for him.

No matter how late Gu Tingyan returned, as long as he came back, Qin Shu would be at home obediently waiting for him.

Now, that light was extinguished.

The ominous premonition in Gu Tingyan's heart was magnifying infinitely; panic shrouded him deeply, and his thin lips were pressed tight.

Gu Tingyan comforted himself, perhaps Qin Shu was just too tired.

She must have been sleepy and fallen asleep.

Gu Tingyan entered and turned on the living room lights; nothing inside had changed, it was still the same as before. He let out a slight sigh of relief, ran upstairs, and hurriedly pushed open the door to the master bedroom.

Gu Tingyan's nerves had been taut the whole time; he turned on the bedroom light and called out Qin Shu's name in a hoarse voice: "Huahua."

The room was empty, without a trace of Qin Shu, and the bedding on the bed was folded meticulously.

A string had been hanging in Gu Tingyan's mind the whole time; he looked at the lifeless room, his lips pressed tightly together.

He strode over and opened the wardrobe. Inside, every season's brand-name expensive clothes, rows of high-end luxury garments were all there, and even the jewelry necklaces he had given her were all present.

Qin Shu liked these shiny things very much, though she lived a leisurely and lazy life and didn't like to wear them usually; when she went traveling with Su Tuantuan, she loved to dress herself up.

Gu Tingyan comforted himself, she hadn't left.

She must be angry with him.

But when he turned around, his pupils contracted violently, and his body stiffened right where he stood.

A ring was lying quietly on Qin Shu's vanity.

This ring was their wedding ring from five years of marriage; Qin Shu treasured it, wearing it for everything she did, unable to bear taking it off.

The size of the ring did not fit Qin Shu; it was a bit large on her because it had been custom-made for Chu Sheng.

Gu Tingyan looked back and only then discovered that a white leather suitcase was missing from the corner, and two books were missing from the bookshelf.

Qin Shu had left.

Gu Tingyan carefully picked up the ring; his chest suddenly hurt severely, the veins on his forehead throbbed, and his body swayed slightly, nearly falling to the ground.

This ring did not suit her, so she took it off and returned it to Gu Tingyan.

She took off the ring, dragged her suitcase, and had actually left without a sound.

Why didn't she wait for him to return?

Gu Tingyan's heart trembled violently, and his heart spasmed with pain; the corners of his eyes were bloodshot, his hands balled into fists, his knuckles turning white.

Gu Tingyan lowered his head and picked up the ring; with a "thud," the five-carat diamond ring was thrown by him into the trash can.

This ring had been given to the wrong person from the very beginning.

This was a wrong beginning.

Where could Qin Shu go?

Her grandmother was ill and didn't remember her; in all of Beijing, the only person she was familiar with was Su Tuantuan.

At this moment, Gu Tingyan suddenly realized that Qin Shu's life for the past five years had revolved around him, and her social circle was pitifully small.

During those years when he could only sit in a wheelchair, Qin Shu had always accompanied him, as if she would never get bored; every time he turned his head, he could always see her behind him.

In these five years, Qin Shu only had Gu Tingyan.

But now, she didn't want him anymore.

Gu Tingyan rubbed his throbbing temples; he leaned against the window, lit a cigarette with his fingertips, and called Su Tuantuan. The other side didn't answer, and later, they even blocked him directly.

Qin Shu had given him a chance, but he hadn't realized the severity of the situation.

Gu Tingyan had underestimated Chu Sheng's paranoia.

From beginning to end, Gu Tingyan could blame no one.

The only one to blame was himself.

Gu Tingyan exhaled a puff of smoke; when this layer of mist tore open, the true face was revealed.

Gu Tingyan felt a bit of regret in his heart, only he himself knew.

In the bar.

Countless empty wine bottles were spread across the table, and Gu Tingyan poured glass after glass into his stomach, wanting only to get drunk and temporarily forget Qin Shu, to forget his troubles.

Yet no matter how much he drank, the image of Qin Shu's voice and appearance always surfaced in his mind.

Qin Shu stood before him and said softly, "Gu Tingyan."

"Are you stupid, drinking so much?"

Gu Tingyan stared up at her blankly, as if wanting to carve her into his mind: "Huahua, you aren't angry with me anymore?"

Qin Shu stood there, looking at him with a smile; her gaze was as gentle as ever, and looking into her eyes, it was as if she still loved him deeply.

A smile appeared on his face, his lips curving slightly, and he reached out to touch her, but the next second, the person before his eyes vanished.

This was a Qin Shu he had imagined himself.

Gu Tingyan remained stunned for a long time, his chest feeling uncomfortable, as if gripped by an invisible giant hand, the pain turning his face pale.

"Handsome, here to drink alone?" A beautiful woman nearby saw such a top-tier, lone hunk like Gu Tingyan and, heart blossoming with joy, leaned over, her soft chest brushing against his arm intentionally or otherwise.

Gu Tingyan's eyes held a thick sense of disgust; he raised his gaze, his eyes icy, and his thin lips spat out one word: "Scram!"

He held up the ring on his hand and looked at the woman with a cold gaze: "I am married, I have a wife, do you see it?"

Seeing the wedding ring on his hand, the woman tossed her hair and walked away: "Tch, what are you being fierce for? Married and still out drinking alone, must be unloved."
