Chapter 49: She Does Not Care What Kind of Woman Gu Tingyan Finds Outside

~8 min read 1,461 words

Gu Tingyan stood at the doorway staring at the tightly shut door, gazed for a moment, then turned and left.

He could allow Qin Shu to be a bit willful, but as the CEO of Gu Group, Gu Tingyan always stood at the pinnacle; for him to lower his status to coax a woman meant he already cared about this person deeply.

Qin Shu leaned against the door, hearing the steady footsteps outside gradually fade away.

Gu Tingyan had just left like that, not even persisting a little longer.

Qin Shu opened the door; the hallway was empty, a trail of damp rainwater snaking along the floor, and a puddle of water remained in front of the door.

Qin Shu leaned limply against the door, staring at the puddle as if lost in thought, her focus landing nowhere, until a peal of thunder outside the window brought her back to her senses.

The corners of her lips curled slightly into a faint sneer, and she raised her hand to cover her eyes, which were streaming with tears; her palms slowly filled with tears that spilled out from between her fingers, impossible to wipe away.

Look, she had taken the initiative to say it.

Was it useful to say it?

Gu Tingyan still did not believe her.

Qin Shu had not intended to say it originally; they were already divorced, so there was no need.

But she could not swallow her anger; Chu Sheng had used the events of that year again and again to disgust her.

Gu Tingyan was her husband, the husband on her marriage certificate; it wasn't enough that Chu Sheng's mother had snatched away her father.

She even wanted to snatch away Gu Tingyan.

She was unhappy, so she had to drag someone down to hell with her.

As for what the result would be, she didn't care anymore.

Outside the window, the rain poured down, hitting the glass with a pitter-patter.

Qin Shu curled up on the bed, her small figure huddled into a ball, tears soaking the pillow as she tried her best to suppress her emotions.

Listening to the heavy rain outside, her heart felt as if it were raining too.

Su Tuantuan returned to her rented room, soul-broken and dejected, her whole body soaked, her eyes clearly having cried, red and swollen severely.

She did not understand why Zhou Jinchuan would treat her like this, so heartless and cold.

He hadn't even been willing to say a word about breaking up before deleting her.

She took out her phone, wanting to call Qin Shu, but thought of that pair of dog-like man and woman, Gu Tingyan and Chu Sheng, who showed off their affection every day.

Her heart grew even more miserable; Qin Shu was having a more miserable time than she was.

She could not go and disturb Qin Shu again, adding to her burden.

Su Tuantuan turned off her phone and looked at the photo of the two of them on the table: a boy and a girl wearing the same school uniforms, bright and sunny, full of youthful spirit.

The boy had his arm around the girl, looking at the camera with a gentle expression, the corners of his lips upturned.

Su Tuantuan looked at this photo, her nose aching intensely, and suddenly burst into loud sobs; the room was deathly quiet, the sound of rain outside grew sudden and loud, and accompanied by her desperate, hoarse crying, a thick sorrow permeated the air.

Gu Tingyan came from Qin Shu's rented room, sat back in his car soaked to the bone, his body stained with a layer of chill, Qin Shu's words surfacing in his mind.

Gu Tingyan paused slightly, his eyes carrying a thoughtful look.

Gu Tingyan coughed once, took out his phone, and called Lu Ziqian, his voice low: "Help me check something."

The Gu Family was in business, the Lu Family in politics; Lu's father held a prominent position in the political world, and the Lu Family had originally intended for Lu Ziqian to take over, but he had chosen to enter the legal profession.

Lu Ziqian sensed the wrongness in his tone, picked up his phone, stood up, and frowned fiercely: "Are you alright?"

Gu Tingyan took out a cigarette and lit it, raindrops dripping onto his fingertips; he gave a light huff and curled his lip: "I won't die."

His voice was hoarse: "I want all the information on Qin Shu and Chu Sheng; help me check as fast as possible, the faster the better."

Gu Tingyan paused, his eyes as obscure as the deep, and said: "By the way, check the truth about my car accident back then."

Lu Ziqian paused, his eyes narrowing dangerously; he said in a low voice: "Are you suspecting that someone tampered with your car accident back then?"

Gu Tingyan's voice was cold: "Yes."

"Lu Ziqian, if one day you discovered that you owed Su Xiangwan too much, what would you do?"

Su Xiangwan? That woman he had sent to prison?

A cold, sinister smile covered Lu Ziqian's face: "Does she deserve it?"

Gu Tingyan chuckled: "I hope you're right."

Gu Tingyan hung up the phone, leaned back in his seat, and looked up toward the direction of Qin Shu's home, his heart sinking deeper and deeper.

If Qin Shu was that person, how would he face her in the future, and how would he make up for the harm he had brought her?

Gu Tingyan's heart trembled violently; he realized he could not make up for it.

The man's fingertips were slightly cold, his thoughts drifting far away; the cigarette he held between his lips burned on its own, his gaze hollow and unable to land on anything real.

Five years ago, when he was preparing to investigate this matter, he and Chu Sheng had gotten into a car accident.

How could things be such a coincidence?

Linking it to what Qin Shu had said to him today, a cold smile appeared on the corners of Gu Tingyan's lips, his handsome face clouded with gloom.

In this life, he hated being toyed with by others the most.

Treating him like a clown to be played with.

Ever since that night, after Qin Shu had argued with Gu Tingyan, she had never seen him again.

Gu Tingyan had also never appeared in front of her.

Qin Shu no longer cared whether he went to find Chu Sheng; she suddenly discovered that the little bit of attachment and care she had for Gu Tingyan was slowly disappearing.

She did not care what kind of woman Gu Tingyan found outside.

Until one day, she would completely excise Gu Tingyan from the bottom of her heart.

Qin Shu went to the nursing home; her grandmother was drowsy and still did not remember her.

Qin Shu coaxed her grandmother to sleep, and Su Xiangwan walked in carrying a fruit basket; she was slightly stunned to see her, then nodded and smiled: "Miss Qin."

Qin Shu smiled: "Thank you for coming to see my grandmother."

Su Xiangwan also smiled: "Grandma is very good to me too."

Qin Shu's gaze fell upon Su Xiangwan's wrist; a finger was missing from her left hand, and Su Xiangwan retracted her hand slightly, hiding it inside her sleeve.

She looked up at Qin Shu, but there was no disdain or disgust in her eyes; her expression was calm and indifferent, and she did not look down on her.

Qin Shu smiled slightly at her and extended her hand: "My name is Qin Shu."

Su Xiangwan extended her own intact left hand: "Su Xiangwan."

Qin Shu was slightly startled upon hearing her name, recalling the name of a person: Lu Ziqian's ex-wife.

"Your name is Su Xiangwan?"

"Mm."

Qin Shu looked at Su Xiangwan's face; it was gentle and lovely, with a small dimple on her cheek when she smiled, and two little fangs.

Qin Shu was not familiar with Gu Tingyan's group of brothers, but she had heard of Su Xiangwan, the mayor's daughter.

The Su family met with disaster four years ago, and Su's father went to prison for corruption and bribery.

Su Xiangwan was also sent to prison by Lu Ziqian, on charges of intentional homicide and embezzlement of public funds.

Qin Shu looked at the woman's gaunt, bony frame; she did not believe that someone who could be accepted by her grandmother would hire a killer.

Qin Shu's throat felt parched: "Do you need help?"

Seeing her expression, Su Xiangwan knew that Qin Shu must have recognized her.

Su Xiangwan lowered her head: "I didn't know she was your grandmother."

These words were to tell Qin Shu that she had not approached her grandmother on purpose.
