Chapter 57: They... are friends?
Qin Shu sat there with a cold face, being even more ungrateful.
It was the first time Jiang Wenzhou had lost face in front of his brothers.
Jiang Wenzhou's eyes turned cold in an instant; he looked at Qin Shu with a strange smile: "Qin Shu, I'll remember you."
The man said coldly: "Let's go."
The next day.
Qin Shu set her alarm early in the morning; she went to a Mercedes-Benz dealership to pick up a new car and sold the one Gu Tingyan had bought for her previously.
It started raining heavily on the way back while driving.
There was a traffic jam on the road, and as Qin Shu sat in her car waiting for the traffic light, she cast a light glance and her gaze paused slightly; a thin figure suddenly entered her line of sight.
Su Xiangwan did not have an umbrella; she held her hands over her head and ran all the way to the bus stop. Her small face was pale, her eyes were red, and her clothes were disheveled, as if they had been torn by someone; she was squatting on the ground alone, hugging her head and crying bitterly.
Qin Shu paused; the light was red, so she turned the steering wheel and made a turn.
Su Xiangwan was squatting at the bus stop, hugging herself and crying in despair, when a familiar voice suddenly came to her ears.
"Su Xiangwan."
Su Xiangwan looked up from her arms with tears in her eyes and saw that Qin Shu's car had stopped by the side of the road. She opened the car door, took an umbrella, and walked down; a black umbrella was placed over her head.
Qin Shu looked down at her: "Get in the car."
Su Xiangwan had not expected to be caught by Qin Shu in such a disheveled state; she stood up and raised her hand to wipe away her tears: "No need, I'm soaked through."
She looked at Qin Shu, glanced at her clean, brand-new car, curled her fingers slightly, and gave a faint smile: "I'll get your car dirty in a moment."
The woman was soaked through and trembling; her face was pale, her eyes were red and swollen, and her chin was pointed—she had lost even more weight since Qin Shu last saw her.
Qin Shu grabbed her hand and pulled her toward her; Su Xiangwan was very light and was pulled over with a gentle tug.
"A car is meant for people to sit in."
Qin Shu frowned, acting with a bit of unreasonableness and dominance: "Get in the car, my clothes are about to get wet."
Su Xiangwan looked at her forceful attitude and cold face, which was written all over with the look of someone who was not to be trifled with.
She did not dare to resist and let Qin Shu take her into the car.
Qin Shu closed the car door; there was still a clean, unopened towel in the passenger seat that the shop had provided.
She grabbed it and handed it to Su Xiangwan, her voice seven parts gentler: "Wipe the water off yourself."
Su Xiangwan was stunned, her eyes turned red, her fingertips trembled slightly, and she reached out to take it.
She lowered her head, and hot tears fell: "Thank you."
Qin Shu: "You're welcome."
Qin Shu drove while turning the steering wheel to avoid the cars behind her, looking at her through the rearview mirror: "Did someone bully you?"
If she remembered correctly, the direction Su Xiangwan came from was the police station; in this state, something must have happened.
She saw Su Xiangwan unwrap the brand-new, clean cloth, but instead of wiping the rainwater off herself first, she started by wiping Qin Shu's car, fearing she would get it dirty.
That cautious look, afraid of causing her trouble, made Qin Shu's heart suddenly tighten; she felt inexplicably sorry for her.
Before the Su family met with disaster, Su Xiangwan, as the mayor's daughter, was loved by all, charming and bright, and loved to smile; her eyes were always filled with pride and confidence.
Qin Shu had met her a few times, but they were always far apart, and the two had no interaction back then.
The Su family had only this one daughter and doted on her; she was as proud as a rose back then, holding her head high like a little princess, bright and eye-catching.
Su Xiangwan heard Qin Shu talking to her and looked up: "It's already been resolved."
"Qin Shu, thank you."
Qin Shu chuckled: "Come to me if you have any trouble in the future; I'll help you."
Su Xiangwan: "Why help me? Everyone avoids me."
"My grandmother likes you very much."
Qin Shu: "Besides, aren't we friends?"
Friends?
Are they... friends now?
Qin Shu was Gu Tingyan's wife, the president's wife of Gu Group, powerful and influential, and also a glamorous female celebrity; she and someone like her, living in the gutter, were worlds apart.
Su Xiangwan looked stunned: "I've been to prison and killed someone; aren't you afraid of me?"
Hearing this, Qin Shu curled her lips and mocked her unceremoniously: "I'm afraid you'd struggle even to kill a chicken."
"Only an idiot would believe you killed someone."
Su Xiangwan: "………"
Su Xiangwan thought of Qin Shu's grandmother, and the corners of her eyes turned red; after the Su family fell, former relatives and friends avoided her, and her former best friends had cut ties with her.
She had interviewed for countless jobs and was rejected by all of them; the way they looked at her was as if Su Xiangwan was something very unlucky.
She had not expected that the ones who would finally give her a glimmer of warmth in this world would be two strangers she had no interaction with before.
She smiled sheepishly: "You celebrities even use bad language."
Qin Shu: "I usually maintain a human appearance, unless I can't help it."
Qin Shu asked her: "Where is your home? I'll take you back."
As she spoke, she opened WeChat and handed her phone over: "Add me on WeChat first and send the address to my phone."
Su Xiangwan added Qin Shu on WeChat and sent the address to Qin Shu.
Qin Shu stopped the car at the destination and took the umbrella from the passenger seat to hand to her: "It's raining very hard; be careful not to get wet."
Su Xiangwan took the umbrella; she opened it and stood there persistently, watching until Qin Shu's car disappeared from sight, ripples rising in her heart one after another.
Su Xiangwan returned to the basement with the umbrella; she pushed the door open, saw the family portrait on the table, and said happily: "Mom, I have a friend now."
A drop of water fell on the photo album, and she hurriedly raised her hand to wipe it clean, fearing the rainwater would dirty the photo.
Infinite vitality burst forth in Su Xiangwan's body again: "Mom, I will work hard to live on, until Dad is released from prison."
"Don't worry, I can take care of myself now."
Su Xiangwan gazed at her mother's loving face and smiled: "I am no longer the little girl who needed you to worry about everything."
Qin Shu's phone went "ding-dong," it was a message from Su Tuantuan: "Huahua, there is an advertisement to shoot today."
"Come to the company."
"Okay."
Qin Shu drove the car to the company parking lot and parked it; she scanned her face to enter the interior of Xingchen Entertainment Group and pressed the button for the 28th floor, where the top floor was Gu Tingyan's CEO office.
Qin Shu did not have the authorization to swipe a card to go up.
The elevator door opened, Qin Shu walked in, and she saw Zhou Jinchuan and Su Tuantuan sitting on opposite sides, along with a fashion magazine editor-in-chief.
Su Tuantuan stood up and spoke in a businesslike manner: "The company wants you to stir up a scandal with Zhou Jinchuan to increase the buzz for the new drama."
Qin Shu raised an eyebrow, looked at Zhou Jinchuan, and asked in a low voice: "Did you two have a fight?"
Although the company did not allow employees to date, the two of them usually maintained a basic distance at the company, but it would not be like this, with the temperature dropping to zero.
Su Tuantuan did not want to make Qin Shu worry, so she smiled faintly: "It's nothing."
"Shoot it well, he is very popular right now, it would be a waste not to use his traffic."
Qin Shu smiled: "Fine."
Qin Shu went to the studio, let the makeup artist finish her makeup, got her look ready, and finished shooting several sets of photos according to the organizer's requirements.
