Chapter 95: Our Family's Celebrity, Choosing Style Over Warmth
Qin Shu got into the car and slammed the door shut with a bang.
Gu Tingyan had been dutifully driving her to and from work for five months.
Gu Tingyan glanced at her while driving and chuckled, "Your pout is so pronounced you could hang a teapot on it."
"Who upset you again?"
Qin Shu looked at him angrily: "What right do you have to stop me from attending the celebration banquet?"
The corners of Gu Tingyan's eyes lifted slightly: "You really want to go?"
Qin Shu crossed her arms, sat silently in the back seat, and sulked: "Yes."
"It's crowded and chaotic, and you're pregnant; I'm worried."
Gu Tingyan said in an unquestionable tone: "You can go, but only with me."
Going with Gu Tingyan? Forget it.
Everyone would know about her relationship with Gu Tingyan in a moment.
Qin Shu pursed her lips: "I'm not going."
Gu Tingyan raised an eyebrow: "Then I'll drive home?"
"Just in time to go back and spend Christmas with Chenchen."
Gu Tingyan started the engine and drove back to the Gu Family Old Residence; winter had arrived, and as Qin Shu got out of the car, a gust of cold air hit her, making her shiver.
Gu Tingyan took off his black overcoat and draped it over her, looking at Qin Shu's outfit—a khaki trench coat paired with a white, sexy inner sweater—and her shivering legs.
The man frowned slightly and sighed: "Our family's celebrity, choosing style over warmth."
"Be careful not to catch a cold."
Qin Shu rolled her eyes at him, walked inside wearing Gu Tingyan's coat, and left him shivering in the cold wind.
Winter had arrived in Beijing, and the cold wind made one's teeth chatter.
As soon as Qin Shu entered the door, she saw Gu Yichen in Gu Laoyezi's courtyard, sitting sensibly at the table by the window doing his homework.
The little guy heard the familiar footsteps, looked up, and looked at Qin Shu with surprise: "Mom is back!"
His small figure slid off the chair and vanished from the window in a flash.
The little guy rushed out like a cannonball, wanting to run over and hug Qin Shu, but Gu Tingyan walked over quickly, picked him up, and said in a stern voice: "Your mother still has a little baby in her belly."
"Don't bother her."
Gu Yichen looked down at Qin Shu's belly; she was six months pregnant, and her belly was slightly protruding, so the little guy nodded obediently.
Gu Tingyan put him down, and the little guy gently touched Qin Shu's belly, his eyes full of surprise: "Mom, I feel him kicking me."
Qin Shu curled her lips and took his hand to go inside: "Let's go in and talk, it's cold in the wind."
"Grandpa, I'm back."
Gu Laoyezi turned around, saw Qin Shu, and was overjoyed; he hurriedly called Zhang Ma: "Zhang Ma! Zhang Ma, the Young Mistress is back, stew some black-bone chicken soup tonight."
Zhang Ma saw that Qin Shu was back and smiled: "The Young Mistress is back, I'll go buy a live chicken to slaughter right now."
Gu Laoyezi pulled Qin Shu to sit on the sofa: "Why are you wearing so little?"
"You're pregnant, you have to take care of yourself."
Gu Laoyezi stuffed the hand warmer in his hand to Qin Shu and asked a servant to get her a down jacket.
Gu Tingyan stood there thinly, feeling left out; he went upstairs himself to find a thick piece of clothing to put on before coming back down.
Qin Shu sat on the sofa holding Gu Yichen and flipped through a dictionary for him: "Baby, you're the big brother, why don't you pick a name for your younger brother or sister?"
Gu Yichen was stunned: "Mom, I get to pick?"
He looked at Gu Laoyezi; the little guy was smart and knew who was the boss of the Gu Family now.
Gu Laoyezi hummed: "I'll leave it to you, kid."
"But if it doesn't sound good, I won't allow it."
Gu Yichen happily hugged the dictionary and nodded heavily: "Got it, Grandpa!"
"Mom, I need to do some more research for a while."
Qin Shu kissed the little guy on the cheek: "Okay."
After dinner, Qin Shu spent some time with her son in the living room before feeling tired, so she went upstairs early to wash up and prepare for bed.
Just as she was about to sleep, her phone on the table chimed with a "ding-dong."
Gu Lichuan: "Sister-in-law, come to the back garden, I have something very important to tell you, please make sure you come."
Qin Shu saw this message, paused, and still put on a thick coat to go downstairs.
Qin Shu walked step by step along the bluestone path toward the back garden of the Gu Family Old Residence; suddenly, her footsteps stopped, and a chill washed over her, making her feel cold to the bone.
In the middle of the night, Qin Shu saw Gu Tingyan and Chu Sheng embracing each other.
Chu Sheng hugged Gu Tingyan tightly from behind and cried: "Tingyan, I know you're avoiding me."
"It's been five months, why won't you divorce Qin Shu?"
Gu Tingyan reached out to pry her hands off, but Chu Sheng whispered in his ear: "Tingyan, if you dare to let go of me, I'll go tell Qin Shu right now that you have an illegitimate child outside."
She whispered: "Tingyan, you don't want Qin Shu to know about this, do you?"
Chu Sheng whispered in his ear with a gasp: "Her belly is big now, tell me, if she gets a shock, could it be two lives lost at once?"
Gu Tingyan stiffened, and Chu Sheng, holding the man's waist, looked up at the pregnant Qin Shu and gave a provocative smile.
Qin Shu stared fixedly at the scene before her, her face cold and dark; Gu Lichuan walked up and stood beside Qin Shu: "Sister-in-law, I didn't want you to be kept in the dark."
"Big brother still has lingering feelings for his ex-girlfriend."
Gu Lichuan sighed: "Men are probably all like this; once their wife's belly gets big, they can't help but want to find women outside."
Qin Shu only felt a chill run through her entire body; fortunately, she no longer held any expectations for him.
"Thank you."
Qin Shu turned and left, heading back to the bedroom against the cold wind.
Gu Tingyan returned very late at night; he went straight to the bathroom to shower upon his return, and she was not yet asleep when the man got into bed.
The next day.
Qin Shu ran into Chu Sheng head-on at the Old Residence; her face was radiant, filled with the happiness of having been nourished by a man's love.
Chu Sheng glanced at her big belly and said, "Do you believe that this year, during the Spring Festival, Tingyan will sneak over to spend it with me?"
"He said he would accompany me abroad to watch the fireworks together."
Chu Sheng smiled smugly: "This is the promise he made to me back then."
Qin Shu raised her eyes to look at her and retorted, "What, are you addicted to being a mistress? Did you learn that from your mother?"
Chu Sheng was furious and wanted to reach out and hit her, but remembering it was the Gu Family Old Residence, she held back and left, clicking away in her high heels.
One month later.
On the second day of the Spring Festival, Gu Tingyan packed his suitcase and looked at Qin Shu: "Huahua, I need to go abroad."
Qin Shu paused; thinking of Chu Sheng's words, her face turned pale, and a surge of energy welled up within her, making her want to compete with Chu Sheng.
Chu Sheng's mother had stolen her father, and now Chu Sheng wanted to steal her child's father.
Qin Shu stepped forward and hugged Gu Tingyan's waist tightly, trying to make him stay: "Tingyan, can you not go?"
Her tears soaked the man's clothes: "The baby is about to be born, I'm scared."
Gu Tingyan was silent for a moment, then reached out to hold her waist to comfort her: "Huahua, don't be willful."
"The doctor said the child in your belly is fine and very healthy."
The corners of Qin Shu's eyes turned red, and she looked at him with tears streaming down: "Gu Tingyan, do you really have to go?"
