Chapter 34: I
After a simple dinner at QQ-E’s place, Chen Yansen strolled leisurely toward the classroom.
As he walked, he thought about tomorrow’s meeting with Zhao Maolin.
‘Hope this old bastard doesn’t act like an idiot.’
Chen Yansen narrowed his eyes, a sharp glint flashing in their depths as he pondered silently.
‘Hey? Senior, is that you? Are you heading to Building D too?’
A clear, melodious voice drifted from nearby and reached Chen Yansen’s ears.
Chen Yansen snapped back to attention, looked up, and saw Su Meiling—the girl he’d met earlier that day—flanked by several lively female classmates, clearly her roommates.
‘Yeah, Sister Su.’ Chen Yansen suppressed a smile and replied calmly.
Most of Su Meiling’s roommates had also gotten their campus cards from Chen Yansen, and they greeted him warmly in turn.
Chen Yansen responded to each of them in turn, chatting as they walked, and soon arrived at their destination—Classroom D408.
To Su Meiling and the others’ surprise, Chen Yansen followed them inside.
‘Senior, you…’
Su Meiling was about to ask when Meng Xibo’s shout cut her off: ‘Sen-ge, we’re over here!’
‘Sister, I’ll go over first—we’ll talk later.’
Chen Yansen waved goodbye and headed toward Meng Xibo and the others.
‘Liberal arts majors are so lucky—our class has so many girls! Who’s the girl walking with Sen-ge? She’s probably the prettiest!’
Zhu Xiaopeng adjusted his glasses and murmured his assessment.
‘Stop staring! She might be your future sister-in-law!’
Meng Xibo shoved him, warning seriously.
‘What’s the point of just staring? If you like her, go after her! Don’t think your only rivals are the guys in your class—sophomores and juniors are all wolves and tigers; if you wait too long, you might be single all four years of college.’
Chen Yansen sat down and gave them a solemn warning.
‘Huh? What if she already has a boyfriend?’ Song Yang shrank back, looking timid.
‘A boyfriend? That’s not a husband. Having one’s even better—only one rival to beat, so your chances of winning her are higher.’
Chen Yansen draped an arm around Song Yang’s neck and tossed back the exact words his past self had once said.
‘Chen-ge, you’re… you’re such a jerk.’
Song Yang flushed, pulled away from him, and lied with a straight face.
I’m a jerk?
That’s what you said yourself!
Chen Yansen spat inwardly.
Since Chen Yansen entered, classmates kept casting curious glances, wondering: Why is Senior Chen here at our class meeting?
Chen Yansen sighed, realizing his ‘senior’ persona had run its course. Rather than wait to be exposed, he’d take the initiative.
‘A-Zhe, move over—I’ll go up and campaign for you.’
Chen Yansen tapped Tang Zhenzhe’s shoulder, signaling him to pull his feet in and make room.
‘Sen-ge, don’t joke—I really don’t want to be class monitor!’
Tang Zhenzhe grabbed Chen Yansen’s arm, shaking his head helplessly with a bitter smile.
‘No! You do!’
Chen Yansen shook off his hand and strode confidently onto the stage.
Tang Zhenzhe, that bastard, had once dragged Chen Yansen into a karaoke bar, crying and sniffling: ‘If I’d known being class monitor meant hanging out with Su Meiling every day, I’d have run for it!’
But back then, he’d been too fake.
Brother, this time, I’ll take you to the summit!
Chen Yansen knew Tang Zhenzhe’s abilities—being class monitor was child’s play for him. In his past life, Tang hadn’t run mainly because unpleasant high school experiences made him underestimate the resources a college class monitor could control.
Besides, if Tang Zhenzhe became monitor, Chen Yansen wouldn’t have to worry about dorm checks or roll calls anymore.
‘Hello everyone, I’m Chen Yansen. Let me reintroduce myself—I’m just like all of you: a freshman in Class 10 Journalism. First, thank you for trusting me and getting your campus cards from me…’
Chen Yansen stood on stage, calm and composed.
‘What? Senior Chen is in our major? Our class?’
‘What senior? He’s a freshman too! He’s a fraud!’
‘How dare you talk like that? What did he scam you on? Was your card package wrong or the price off?’
‘Wow! Senior’s in our class? Now we can see him all the time!’
As soon as he finished speaking, the classroom erupted into murmurs.
‘He’s a freshman? In my class!’
Su Meiling stared blankly at Chen Yansen, her mind freezing, then suddenly realized—she wanted to bury her head in her desk.
That morning, she’d been calling him ‘senior’ and even thought about dating him.
She’d thought that chapter was closed—now she was told she’d have to endure four more years. The cruel reality shattered her.
More than half of Class 10 Journalism’s campus cards were issued by Chen Yansen. Hearing this, no one felt angry—after all, the cards were real, the packages were real, and now they had a campus rep in their class.
‘…Second, regarding tonight’s class monitor election, I recommend Tang Zhenzhe. Three reasons: First, Tang has extensive experience—he’s been class monitor since kindergarten, totaling fourteen years. Second, his organizational and coordination skills are outstanding; whether it’s applying for financial aid or scholarships, he’ll fight hard for everyone. Third…’
Chen Yansen waited until the noise quieted slightly, then continued.
Who is Tang Zhenzhe?
Why does Chen Yansen, the telecom campus card rep, trust him so much?
Everyone turned to look toward Dorm 8302.
‘A-Zhe, come up and say hi!’
Chen Yansen waved to Tang Zhenzhe, treating the classroom like his own stage.
‘That bastard Chen Yansen won’t run for monitor himself, but he’s using his influence to push his dormmate!’
‘Wen-hao, why don’t you go up? We don’t know any of the girls—let him campaign, and you’ll be stuck when the counselor arrives.’
‘Brother Li, take them down! We’ve got your back!’
In another corner of the room, a few guys from Dorm 8316 huddled together, eyes blazing, whispering urgently.
‘Nah, let’s wait and see.’
Li Wenhao stared at the stage, a flicker of resentment in his eyes, then waved his roommate off with forced magnanimity.
He wanted to go up—but he dared not confront Chen Yansen head-on, and besides, he wasn’t as socially confident as Chen Yansen!
Tang Zhenzhe forced himself onto the stage, muttering under his breath: When did I ever serve fourteen years as class monitor? I don’t even remember that!
‘Classmates, I’m Tang Zhenzhe, from Luzhou. Thanks to Chen Yansen for recommending me. As for being class monitor, I do have plenty of experience—especially organizing class activities like hiking, camping, and karaoke. I know all the tourist spots around Xucheng…’
Tang Zhenzhe spoke slowly, eyes gleaming when he mentioned food, drink, and fun, painting vivid pictures.
Who among seventeen- or eighteen-year-old boys doesn’t love to have fun?
But those who love fun can’t get into Xucheng College.
Hearing him, the students below began to think: Maybe letting him be monitor isn’t so bad.
‘Tang, if you can organize a movie outing for me and Chen Yansen, I promise to vote for you!’
A bold girl called out cheerfully.
‘Me too!’
‘Senior, I want to watch a movie with you too!’
Several girls chimed in excitedly.
‘No problem—I’ll figure out which movie to pick.’
Chen Yansen nodded, agreeing readily. Watching a movie was easy for him—the classroom had a projector; he’d just organize a full-class screening, no one left out.
‘Oh? You’re already self-introducing? How thoughtful.’
At that moment, Guo Dongchen walked in, saw the two on stage, and assumed they were casually breaking the ice.
Chen Yansen and Tang Zhenzhe exchanged a glance, greeted the counselor, then returned to their seats with smiles.
Afterward, Guo Dongchen introduced himself, pulled out a list, and had everyone come up one by one to speak. He casually asked: ‘Anyone here have experience as class monitor?’
To his surprise, every eye instantly turned to Tang Zhenzhe!
When Guo Dongchen heard Tang had fourteen years of monitor experience, he nearly laughed out loud—he clearly didn’t believe it.
But when Tang stepped onto the stage and delivered his campaign speech fluently, he began to doubt.
He didn’t know Tang had rehearsed his speech twice in quick succession—he was now perfectly at ease.
Besides Tang Zhenzhe, Li Wenhao and Su Meiling also ran for class monitor—but Tang’s votes led by a wide margin.
Of the 18 boys in the class, Dorm 8302 voted for Tang, Dorm 8316 voted for Li, and Dorm 8324 voted randomly—but 41 girls mostly voted for Tang.
Su Meiling received shockingly few votes!
Clearly, few in college were eager for the monitor position, and girls didn’t care much for pretty female classmates.
Guo Dongchen thought for a moment, then announced: Tang Zhenzhe as class monitor, Su Meiling as Youth League secretary.
He glanced at Chen Yansen—this troublemaker hadn’t run for monitor, and that relieved him.
He continued: Over the next five days, everyone must actively participate in orientation—learning school history, singing the school anthem, etc.
In plain terms, it was a buffer period for these half-grown kids, letting them relax a few days before adapting to college life.
From September 9 to September 25, there would be two weeks of military training; students with health issues could request leave in advance.
‘Teacher Guo, I’m sick. Very seriously sick.’
The moment Guo Dongchen finished speaking, Chen Yansen raised his hand immediately.
Stand at attention, relax, hold military posture—get baked to death under the sun?
Chen Yansen had no interest in that; after learning that Meng Yaqin’s younger sister was the campus doctor at Xucheng Academy, he persistently badgered his way into obtaining several sick leave slips.
“You? Herniated lumbar disc?”
Guo Dongchen stared at the sick leave slip twice, verified the official stamp from the campus clinic—it was legitimate—but his instinct told him Chen Yansen was faking it.
“This troublemaker skipping military training isn’t bad—it saves me worrying he’ll clash with the instructors.”
Thinking this, Guo Dongchen said with sincere concern: “Student Chen, be sure to get plenty of rest.”
Brothers, please support with some follow reads—it’s really tough. I’ve been at this nearly twenty days and still haven’t cracked the new book rankings. I checked the later chapters—they’re all over three thousand words. Please support me, thank you, all you righteous fathers.
