Chapter 55: Loopholes, Risk Control Crisis! (3k words, please keep reading!)

~11 min read 2,056 words

"Teacher Liu, I didn't expect the person Director Cao recommended was you. Welcome, welcome!"

Chen Yansen stepped forward proactively, smiling as he spoke.

"Oh? Teacher Liu, from what Chen Yansen just said, you two already knew each other?"

Cao Dahua looked puzzled and instinctively pressed further.

"Chen is my tenant." Liu Muyan adjusted her glasses, a little embarrassed as she spoke.

The teacher apartments were welfare housing the school allocated to young faculty. The school explicitly forbade renting them out to outsiders, but plenty of teachers did so privately.

In the end, the school could only turn a blind eye.

This sort of thing didn't sound great spoken aloud, which was also why Liu Muyan kept her voice low as she explained.

Hearing this, Cao Dahua turned his head and put on a look as though he hadn't caught it.

"Teacher Liu, please come in."

Chen Yansen gave a faint smile and led the two of them toward Room 206.

Liu Muyan observed him as they walked. Although Chen Yansen was only a freshman, his reputation at Xucheng College was bigger than that of teachers like her.

"Teacher Liu, here are a copy of Senhai's business license and its tax registration certificate. Later I'll have Hu Yun send Fox Tao's business data to your email. From here on, the filing and tax payment work will be entirely up to you."

Chen Yansen took a set of documents from the drawer and said seriously.

"Don't worry, Chen... or should I just call you Boss Chen?" Liu Muyan took the materials and gave a slight smile.

This part-time finance job was nominally about helping students with their entrepreneurship project, but Principal Tang couldn't very well force teachers to work for Chen Yansen for free, so there was pay involved. Liu Muyan's way of addressing him was reasonable.

On top of that, Chen Yansen wore a neat indigo shirt paired with black dress pants. Judging by their attire alone, Chen Yansen looked mature and capable, while Liu Muyan, with her baby face, looked more like Chen Yansen's student.

"How about this—let's each call the other however we like. You call me Brother Sen, I'll call you Sister Muyan."

Chen Yansen teased in all earnestness.

"Dream on! Don't forget, I'm still your teacher!"

Liu Muyan was tickled into laughing out loud, covering her mouth as she spoke softly.

"Alright then, Sister Muyan, you go ahead and look over the materials here. I've got a meeting to attend."

Chen Yansen pulled out a chair for her to sit and reminded her as he did.

Liu Muyan nodded in acknowledgment, then flipped open the stack of materials and began sorting through them as she read.

After seeing Cao Dahua out, Chen Yansen turned and walked into 208, knocked on Wang Zihao's desk, and asked: "Which set of creatives are we using today?"

"Brother Sen, yesterday's ad placement data has come in. Among creative sets A, B, and C, set B had the highest registration rate, and set C had the highest retention rate." Wang Zihao stared at the data, reporting one by one, his expression a little troubled.

Chen Yansen lowered his head and scanned the data. After a moment's thought, he told Wang Zihao: "Kill set a first. Today keep running sets b and c, split traffic 50/50. Once the new data comes in, we'll narrow it down further."

"Got it. This afternoon I'll touch base with Senior Song and see if we can put together a new set of ad creatives that'll catch more eyes." Wang Zihao replied.

Chen Yansen nodded in agreement. Just as he was about to leave, Wang Zihao grabbed his arm and asked: "That senior in 206 is pretty hot. Which department is she from?"

Senior?

Where?

Chen Yansen was startled. Following Wang Zihao's gaze, he saw Liu Muyan leaning over the desk, her curves delicate and shapely, wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, her profile both pure and cute.

His mind turned, and he held back a wicked grin: "A senior from the '08 Financial Management program. Not bad, right?"

"She's got a bit of that baby-face-big... vibe, heh heh. Brother Sen, I think I'm in love." Wang Zihao grinned.

"That's not love, that's lusting after her body. Shameless!" Chen Yansen squinted, looking at Wang Zihao with utter contempt.

"Nonsense! If the first thing that catches your eye isn't her figure, then what—is it her soul?"

Wang Zihao brazenly fired back.

"If you like her, go chase her. What's the damn point of telling me? You don't even have the guts to go ask for her number, do you?"

Chen Yansen glanced at him sideways, his tone dismissive, deliberately trying to provoke him.

"Hah—who says I don't dare!" Wang Zihao shot to his feet and strode out with great force.

After months of training—hawking goods at the market, dealing with dozens of campus card sub-agents—he had long since become fearless.

Chen Yansen leaned against the desk, a smile on his face, waiting to watch the show.

The moment Wang Zihao stepped out of 208, his momentum suddenly drained. Staring at Liu Muyan's face, he hesitated, grew bashful, and had no idea how to greet her.

"Hello there, miss, I'm Wang Zihao from the Class of 2010 E-Commerce program. Can we get to know each other?"

No, no, that line's too stiff.

"Hello, Senior. I'm the ad placement group lead at Fox Tao. Do you have a boyfriend?"

No, no, asking that is too direct.

"Hey beautiful, I'm Wang Zihao. Can I borrow your phone for a sec?"

Then save his own number into it? Isn't that move way too cliché?

Wang Zihao was walking along when he suddenly stopped. He had been about to turn back and ask Chen Yansen for help, but caught the other shaking his head. He steeled himself on the spot, summoned his courage, and charged up to Liu Muyan.

"Excuse me, do you need something?"

Liu Muyan had been looking at the materials when she suddenly felt a gust of wind sweep past, followed by a dark shadow blocking her in front. She looked up, saw Wang Zihao's slightly flushed face, and asked curiously.

"Uh, uh, lit—no, I mean, senior, I'm Wang Zihao from the Class of 2010 E-Commerce class. I'd like to... be your boyfriend, would that be okay?"

Wang Zihao stammered through the line, rubbing his nose one moment, scratching his chin the next. He had meant to ask if she had a boyfriend, but the nerves made him say it wrong.

Class of 2010 E-Commerce?

Wang Zihao?

Wants to be my boyfriend?

Are students these days this bold, not even sparing their teachers?

Liu Muyan's brain short-circuited for a moment. After a long pause, she pressed a hand to her forehead and gave a wry smile: "Wang Zihao, thank you for your... appreciation of your teacher. For now, you can only be my student. I'll take what you just said as a joke."

It was also Liu Muyan's first time running into something like this. She thought it over for ages before piecing her words together, afraid of hurting the self-esteem of the dark-skinned boy in front of her.

Teacher?

Isn't she a senior from the Class of '08?

What's going on!

Wang Zihao's mouth hung slightly open; he turned his head and glared fiercely at Chen Yansen. Seeing the other man covering his mouth and laughing, he immediately realized he had been tricked.

His face fell, yet he still asked unwillingly, "Are you really a teacher? You don't look it at all; you seem younger than my little sister."

"Yes, I'm an accounting teacher at the School of Business. I still have work to do; we can chat when I'm free."

Liu Muyan waved the materials in her hand, signaling that Wang Zihao could leave.

Wang Zihao politely took his leave. His smile vanished the instant he turned around. He walked over to Chen Yansen's side, looking disheveled and grumbling, "Brother Sen, can you act like a human being?"

"What's wrong with a teacher? If you want to pursue her, just pursue her."

Chen Yansen sat in the chair, legs crossed, asking indifferently.

"Forget it, I dare not." Wang Zihao took a deep breath, barely suppressing the urge to kill Chen Yansen, and said timidly.

"A woman three years older brings a gold brick; a woman thirty years older gives you a kingdom. You, my friend, are still too young."

Chen Yansen smacked his lips and teased with a wicked grin.

After speaking, he stood up, patted Wang Zihao's shoulder, and asked, "Do you need me to ask if Teacher Liu has a partner?"

"That works." Wang Zihao wrestled with the decision for a long time before stammering out two words.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Zihao, I didn't expect you, like Yang Guo, to want to become a disciple who betrays his master."

This time, it was Chen Yansen's turn to be stunned. He had thought it was just a joke, but seeing Wang Zihao's expression, he clearly sensed a degree of seriousness.

Wang Zihao looked puzzled, not understanding what Chen Yansen meant.

Chen Yansen ignored him, sauntered slowly into Cao Dahua's office, and ten-odd minutes later walked out. Instead of rushing to tell Wang Zihao the news he had gathered, he went down the stairs to the first floor.

In room 111 on the left, two young men were currently busy sorting packages, simultaneously sending text messages one by one to notify recipients to come quickly to the Entrepreneurship Park 111 to collect their items.

"How's business?"

Chen Yansen asked one of the young men.

"Yo, Brother Sen, you're here! Don't mention it. We haven't had even ten shipments all day; it's all delivery orders. Eighty cents per order, minus ten cents for text message costs, we simply can't make money."

Song Yang threw down a package, plopped onto a stool, and replied in low spirits.

"What's the rush? You kid spent five thousand yuan to secure agency rights for four courier companies; this is purely picking up a bargain, understand? Wait until before the winter and summer breaks; don't you believe it'll work you to death?" Chen Yansen said, curling his lip.

"Brother Sen, are you kidding me? Is it true or false?" Song Yang stood up at once and asked eagerly, his face full of ingratiatingness.

"What do you think? The three most profitable time nodes for campus agents are the winter and summer breaks and the graduation season. Just like an antique shop: no business for three months, but one opening feeds you for half a year. Just wait!"

"By the way, the zero-yuan bargaining module for Fox Tao is online. After this, there will be at least fifty shipments a day. Be careful when packing; absolutely do not let anything go wrong."

After patiently explaining, Chen Yansen added a special reminder.

"No problem. I'll calculate the unit price at the agency rate for you; I've already prepared the packing boxes." Song Yang nodded and replied.

"Just give me a discount. If it's all at the agency rate, what will you eat? The northwest wind?" Chen Yansen heard this, felt no gratitude, and retorted.

"Hehe, thanks, Brother Sen." Song Yang smiled shyly; though he had been scolded, he felt warm inside.

Chen Yansen shook his head and returned to the second floor at a leisurely pace. As soon as he walked into the office, Wang Zihao asked anxiously, "Did you find out anything?"

"There's good news and bad news. Which do you want to hear first?"

Chen Yansen took a sip from his water cup before replying slowly.

Wang Zihao was about to speak when Zhuang Rui behind him interrupted, "Brother Sen, someone has completed the Apple 4 bargaining task!"

Chen Yansen frowned. His first reaction was not joy but intense unease. He knew how critical risk control was for the bargaining mechanic. If the other party completed the bargaining so quickly, they were either a super community expert or had exploited a system loophole.

"Pengfei, Hu Yun, Zhuang Rui, recheck the IDs and IPs for me, and verify the other party's request data once more."

Chen Yansen ordered urgently.
