Chapter 84: The Budding State of a Hundred-Billion Giant—Chen Yansen Gets Caught!
The next morning, a "toot-toot" of a horn drifted in from outside the window.
A cargo ship glided slowly across the surface of the Huangpu River, waking quite a few of the sleepers along both banks.
Meng Jie opened her eyes slowly. Just as she was about to get up, she realized she was lying in Chen Yansen's arms. Startled, she hastily threw back the blanket, saw her pajamas were still intact, and only then breathed a sigh of relief.
Chen Yansen lay on his side, his face turned toward her—his lips were very nice, his nose bridge high and straight.
For some reason, Meng Jie recalled the saying about a high nose bridge. She gently nudged Chen Yansen; when he showed no reaction, she mustered her courage and lifted a corner of the blanket, her gaze probing downward.
Her heart pounding like a drum, cheeks flushing red, her little head slowly burrowed under the blanket.
Chen Yansen, who had been sleeping soundly, suddenly turned over, and his two legs clamped down on Meng Jie's head in one motion.
Meng Jie caught the strong scent on Chen Yansen's body and panicked instantly. She raised her hand and smacked his back several times with all her might.
"What are you doing?"
Chen Yansen, woken by the blows, asked bleary-eyed.
"I should be the one asking you that!" Meng Jie said, her heart full of guilt, and fired back, bracing herself.
"You should be on the sofa right now—why are you on the bed?" Chen Yansen tossed out the question out of nowhere.
"Yeah, why indeed! It must be you taking advantage of me while I was asleep and carrying me up here." Meng Jie guessed wildly.
Damn, that guess was spot on!
"Once you're up here, don't even think about going back down!" Chen Yansen scooped up Meng Jie's slender waist in one go and pulled her into his arms; Meng Jie's whole body pressed against him.
Meng Jie was short—just 1.56 meters, weighing only a little over eighty jin of weight. In Chen Yansen's eyes, she was as light as a ball of cotton.
The two pressed their heads together, their nose tips almost touching, the warm breath passing between them in that tiny space.
"What are you hiding under the blanket?" Meng Jie suddenly asked, trying to ease the ambiguous atmosphere.
"Stop grabbing randomly!" Chen Yansen sucked in a sharp breath—this girl's grip was really strong.
Meng Jie suddenly realized what was happening, let out a "Wah!" and leapt up, her cheeks so red they looked as if they might drip blood, and scrambled far away.
"Chen Yansen, you pervert!"
Meng Jie cursed.
"You took advantage of me, and you still curse me?" Chen Yansen sat up on the bed and retorted, annoyed.
Having said that, he was about to step forward and give Meng Jie a Shenkede Sect lesson.
Seeing this, Meng Jie's body swayed, she turned and ran; the two of them circled around the forty-square-meter suite, one chasing, one fleeing.
"Enough teasing—go brush your teeth and wash your face. This morning I'll take you to Jiaotong University for a look around, we'll have lunch at the revolving restaurant in the Oriental Pearl Tower in the afternoon we'll go to the City God Temple, and in the evening I'll keep you company at a concert."
Chen Yansen had packed the schedule full, then added, "Consider it your birthday gift—are you satisfied?"
The activities he had arranged seemed ordinary, nothing special, yet they suited Meng Jie's taste perfectly.
"You remembered my birthday!" Meng Jie giggled, tugged at his arm, and hugged it to her chest affectionately.
"December 24th—your campus card, I handled it myself." Chen Yansen said with a smile as he walked to the washbasin and tore open the toothbrush packaging.
Meng Jie picked up her clothes and went into the bathroom.
Soon, the two were neatly dressed, finished breakfast at the restaurant, and hailed a cab to head to Jiaotong University.
Forty minutes later, the car stopped at the main gate of Jiaotong University. The two registered their information and walked onto the campus.
Meng Jie said that back in middle school she had wanted to get into a university in Hucheng—Jiaotong University was her top choice, followed by Tongji. In the end, she only got into Xucheng College.
Passing through Hucheng, she naturally had to come take a look.
Chen Yansen nodded and said half-jokingly that he used to want to pick one between Tsinghua and Peking University.
After walking half the campus, Meng Jie hung her head, a little self-conscious: "Xucheng College can't compare to this place at all."
Setting aside the teaching quality and faculty, just the campus environment alone put Xucheng College to shame—even the cafeteria was several times bigger than Xucheng College's.
"Why compare? Life isn't just about studying—being outstanding in other areas works too." Chen Yansen said, unconcerned.
Boss Chen never wasted energy on internal friction. He had dated quite a few highly educated girls; some of them had striking personality contrasts, but most were dull and boring.
Meng Jie hummed in response. For the second half of the tour she was listless. They had originally planned to head to the restaurant at 10:30, but when they walked out of Jiaotong University, it wasn't even 9:30 yet.
"There's a café over there—let's go rest for a bit." Meng Jie suggested.
Chen Yansen saw there was still plenty of time and agreed readily.
They ordered two coffees and sat at a small round table by the window. Beside them stood a half-person-high bookshelf, on which were placed some youth literature for customers to kill time.
"You have to pull the slingshot back a bit more, then the little bird can fly higher and farther."
Chen Yansen and Meng Jie huddled together playing Angry Birds. Their voices weren't loud, but they made four people in the corner frown.
"Ah Hao, how about we go to the library? That couple is too noisy." A bespectacled boy said, looking very unhappy.
"There are even more couples in the library." Cai Yuhao shook his head.
"Once we get the prize money from the iOS game development competition, we definitely have to rent a quieter place as our studio." Another boy, whose hair was a bit thin on top, said full of longing.
"That guy is using the latest iPhone 4. Our new game has only run on the iPhone 3GS. How about we borrow his phone and check the version compatibility?" The balding boy glanced over and said to the last boy.
"Damn it! Why don't you go yourself!" Liu Wei said with a grin.
"You're the social butterfly of our team—sending you is putting you to best use. If we sent Ah Hao, he'd probably not squeeze out a single fart in half a day." The balding boy snickered.
"At least you know what's what."
The corners of Liu Wei's mouth rose high. Having said that, he stood up and walked toward Chen Yansen and Meng Jie.
"Hi there, classmate. I'm a graduate student at Jiaotong University. I'd like to borrow your iPhone 4 to test a game's compatibility on the iOS system—is that convenient?" Liu Wei, assuming the two were also Jiaotong University students, got straight to the point.
Chen Yansen turned around and saw a boy with a long face and short hair, just past twenty, with a confident glint in his eyes.
"You're developing games?" Chen Yansen asked casually.
"Yeah, you're from Jiaotong University too, right? Here's my student ID." Liu Wei, the type to get familiar fast, handed over his student ID and waved it in front of the two of them.
"Sure, take it and use it." Chen Yansen handed the phone over.
"Thanks, bro!" Liu Wei took the phone and trotted back to his seat, full of himself.
Chen Yansen didn't take this to heart and continued playing games with Meng Jie.
About half an hour later, just as the two of them were preparing to leave, Liu Wei, Cai Yuhao, and the others finished packing up their things and came over to return the phones.
"Buddy, the game isn't deleted. If you like it, you can use it to kill time," Liu Wei said with a smile.
Chen Yansen took the phone, glanced at it casually, and was just about to put it in his pocket when his action suddenly stopped.
He looked at the game title again, then raised his head to ask Liu Wei for confirmation: "Is 'Samsara Tales' developed by you guys?"
"Yeah, thanks to this game, we won an award in July. Buddy, have you played it?" Liu Wei replied instinctively.
"My name is Chen Yansen, CEO of FoxTao. How should I address you all?" Chen Yansen calmed his tone and asked softly.
CEO of FoxTao?
Liu Wei and the others exchanged glances. The name FoxTao sounded somewhat familiar, but they didn't have much of an impression of it, though the title of CEO was quite intimidating.
"My name is Liu Wei!"
"Luo Chenghao!"
"Jin Zhicheng!"
"Cai Yuhao!"
Although they didn't understand Chen Yansen's intentions, since he had lent them his phone for over half an hour and introduced himself, they all gave their names openly.
Damn, it really is these damn guys!
Chen Yansen actually didn't play games much; it was just that in his past life, while killing time at a business KTV with Hao Rui, Hao Rui always mentioned his work experience at Eason and said that missing out on the angel investment in MiHoyo was the biggest regret of his career.
Hao Rui was an Executive Director of Penguin's Venture Capital Department, led the Series A financing for Feiyu Technology, and had a good relationship with Chen Yansen.
"Is developing games very expensive?" Chen Yansen asked with a smile, throwing out a new question.
After hearing Chen Yansen's introduction, Cai Yuhao and the others learned of FoxTao's status in the industry and couldn't help but look at him with new respect.
Starting a business in freshman year, reaching 20 million users in less than half a year—his ability was too strong.
They also had ideas for starting a business, so they naturally understood the difficulties of entrepreneurship.
"Mr. Chen, are you saying you want to invest in us?" Liu Wei chose his words carefully and cautiously probed.
"Yes, if you are willing, of course you can," Chen Yansen replied.
Cai Yuhao was introverted but very smart, and Chen Yansen's actions made him feel wary.
Liu Wei felt the same; meeting an investor by chance in a coffee shop, with the other party immediately wanting to invest money, was too unreal.
Chen Yansen noticed the change in their expressions, realized he was too impatient, and added: "The gameplay design and operating mechanics of 'Samsara Tales' are both very good. Investing a few hundred thousand is nothing to me."
His tone was calm and indifferent; although it seemed like he was showing off, it made Cai Yuhao and the others lower their guard.
Chen Yansen knew clearly in his heart that to deal with Cai Yuhao and the others, just shoving money at them wouldn't work; he also had to give them ample creative space and freedom.
Plus, he kept saying, "I really admire your game," which moved the group greatly, and they excitedly stated that once their studio was established, they would definitely seek investment from Chen Yansen.
They exchanged contact information.
At this moment, two inspectors walked in, scanned the area, and fixed their gaze on Chen Yansen.
"Are you Chen Yansen?"
One inspector stepped forward, sized Chen Yansen up and down, and asked in a deep voice.
Chen Yansen was full of confusion, unable to figure out what matter could make the inspectors bypass the phone inquiry process and come directly to the door.
He had only arrived in Shanghai City yesterday, hadn't gone to a business KTV, and hadn't gone for a foot massage; wasn't this framing an innocent person?
He originally wanted to say, "You've got the wrong person."
But seeing the confident look in the eyes of the two inspectors, he could only nod and admit: "What do you want with me?"
"Don't you know what you've done?"
The other, older inspector snorted coldly, habitually reciting the standard line.
"Come with us," the young inspector said, pointing to the car outside the door.
"Wait! You haven't shown your IDs, how do we know you're real inspectors? And you haven't stated a reason; on what grounds are you taking him away?"
Meng Jie stepped forward and questioned them aggressively.
"Little girl, do you insist on obstructing our work?" the older inspector squinted his eyes, warning her silently, while flashing his ID.
"It's fine, I haven't done anything wrong, so I'm not afraid of going to the Inspectorate," Chen Yansen said, patting Meng Jie's shoulder to comfort her softly, then calmly instructed:
"Have Wang Zihao contact Cao Dahua, tell Principal Tang about the situation here, and then have Teacher Wang Jing introduce a lawyer based in Shanghai City."
Wang Jing was the legal advisor sent by Tang Qingshan to FoxTao; with his connections, finding a reliable lawyer was not difficult.
After confirming the destination, Chen Yansen got into the car with a calm expression.
Meng Jie stood in place, her mind in chaos; remembering Chen Yansen's instructions, she rushed out of the coffee shop and started making calls.
"Could this buddy be a scammer?" the balding guy speculated.
"Unlikely, I'm pretty good at reading people; he doesn't seem like a bad person," Liu Wei stated his judgment.
Meanwhile.
Upon learning that Chen Yansen had been taken away by the inspectors, Wang Zihao immediately panicked, but he didn't forget Chen Yansen's arrangements and rushed into Cao Dahua's office.
