Chapter 33: Leopards Also Have a Reverse Scale
The wolf's eyes were sinister, its sharp teeth exuding a terrifying bloody odor in the sunlight; its voice rang out loud, laced with contempt: "If it's you, how about you die here today?"
Upon hearing that, Mo Lie's face remained calm, but he let out a short, low laugh.
He raised his head, staring directly at the gray wolf before him; the feeling of his blood boiling like magma when provoked surged into his heart.
But because his battle power rose, his Spirit Core, which hadn't ached in a long time, began to faintly hurt; this conflicting discomfort made Mo Lie's face turn a little pale.
He moved a finger beneath his robe, realizing that in his current state, wanting to kill the two wolves ahead might require taking Beast Form.
The Spirit Core's energy is insufficient; if his bodily state becomes abnormal, it will worry the sensitive Little Female at home.
And he wants to be a qualified Beast Husband.
Especially, he doesn't want the Wife Master to worry.
Giving the two wolves a chance to regret, Mo Lie frowned slightly in displeasure and said, "Why?"
Wolf Peak looked at this human-like male beast, his confidence in killing him growing; with the opponent at death's door, he didn't mind revealing a bit of kindness:
"It's nothing to tell you; I'll tell you: your death can give us two brothers a chance to be close to two females; your Little Female, my brothers will take good care of her later—you can go in peace."
Hearing that, Lang Cang couldn't help but coldly interject from behind: "What nonsense are you spouting with him!"
Little Female.
Mine.
Mo Lie stood expressionless between the two giant wolves, clearly feeling the killing intent in his heart that he could not suppress.
That killing intent almost instantly filled his bones and blood, invading his mind, making him overlook the pain from his Spirit Core and want to slaughter the two wolves before him.
His gaze fell on Wolf Peak before him; his azure eyes seemed at that moment to be stained with a layer of blood, gorgeous and terrifying.
Wolf Peak felt the temperature around him suddenly drop, even though it was blazing sun high in the desert depths; the piercing chill, like fine needles, permeated his whole body.
A strong feeling of being about to be killed rose from his heart.
Wolf Peak almost instinctively let out a low growl: "How could I possibly be scared into immobility by a waste!"
The giant wolf flung open its claws, ferociously lunging at that human, and at the same time opened its maw, intending to bite that person before him into pieces!
Seeing this, Lang Cang cooperated by blocking the path Mo Lie could use to escape, raising his claws to attack Mo Lie's back.
At that very moment, a black light flashed past; the Black Rock Belt deep in the desert emitted a tremendous roar, immediately followed by a sharp, piercing howl:
Ahhhhh—
Accompanied by the scream, Wolf Peak's forelimb was bitten off, his massive body collapsing to the ground and crushing a rock.
Lang Cang stared wide-eyed in disbelief, about to speak, when a black shadow flashed before him; he didn't even have time to move his eyes down to see clearly the figure lunging at him before feeling sharp teeth sink into his neck.
His throat burned with pain; he couldn't make a sound, and suddenly realized this was very like his usual method of hunting ferocious Exotic Beasts.
Biting through the prey's throat, a single strike, certain death—
How could this be!!
Lang Cang collapsed with a thud, his wolf eyes wide open as he died, incredulously watching the figure that had killed him in a single blow.
It was an extremely ferocious beast, twice the size of their Beast Forms, its massive body covered in a sleek, glowing black pelt; its azure eyes looked down, the pupils exceptionally clear, streaked with varying shades of blue.
Cold, ruthless, yet calm.
A non-human cold-blooded feeling, like the calm after countless killings piled up.
To him, fighting was more ordinary than eating.
Wolf Peak's pupils contracted; that heaven-and-earth gap in strength was a chasm he could never cross in a lifetime.
Mo Lie's four feet stepped on the yellow sand as if on flat ground, his blue eyes fixed on the fallen Lang Cang beside him as he walked forward.
As he moved, he carried the grace of a leopard, but to Wolf Peak's eyes it was the terrifying descent of a dead Beast God.
He trembled, disregarding his current posture, his three legs in a sorry state pushing back desperately, tears streaming as he sobbed: "Uu… I was wrong, I was wrong, I wish to follow you and become your slave; please spare me, spare me…"
He truly regretted it, blaming his shallow vision for the suicidal idea of challenging a Supernatural Male Beast.
No one could take Lin Manzhi from his side; even thinking about it was impossible. Mo Lie acted without hesitation, raising his claw, bent and flashing with metallic light.
He exerted force; the claw, sharper than a blade, tore Wolf Peak's body apart, fulfilling Wolf Peak's own earlier words—"to tear you apart."
Having dealt with the two troubles, Mo Lie felt a wave of pain like mountains and seas overturning in his mind, nearly unable to keep from collapsing backward.
In an instant, the terrifying black giant beast vanished, replaced by a black-haired man collapsed on the sand.
Mo Lie lay motionless on the ground, face turned to the side, half his face slightly sunk into a thin layer of sand, revealing half of his exquisite face, deathly pale without a trace of blood.
The Spirit Core at the back of his neck felt as if someone were hammering it with an iron hammer, causing a buzzing in his mind, his eyes darkening, with not a shred of strength.
The sun blazed overhead, the ground littered with shattered black rocks, and soon the scent of blood drew Terror Birds appearing in the sky above.
Probably because the lingering aura of the terrifying giant beast on the ground hadn't dissipated, they dared not descend to feast.
They feed on Exotic Beasts and Exotic Birds; Beastfolk are naturally also food for Exotic Beasts and Birds, and a delicious, energy-rich meal.
So even if the Terror Birds feared, they circled, unwilling to leave, emitting 'ge-ge' calls to attract companions to come enjoy the feast.
Mo Lie lay motionless on the ground, gritting his teeth, enduring the intense pain in his body.
After a while, he lifted his head from the sand; a thin layer of dust slid from his face and black hair, leaving a faint pink imprint from being pressed.
He pushed himself up slowly from the ground; the pain on his body hadn't lessened, merely that he had paused a moment, grown accustomed to the intense pain, and was now walking solely by inhuman perseverance.
Despite Mo Lie's body being wracked with pain, what he thought at that moment was: "Too bad, today I can't bring a Terror Bird for the Little Female to taste."
Mo Lie supported his body and walked toward home, leaving a string of footprints on the golden desert that were quickly covered by sand, vanishing without trace.
The Terror Birds circled in the sky for a while; finally a lead Terror Bird mustered the courage to swoop down on the feast, this action prompting countless Terror Birds to rush forward, scrambling for food.
This place soon returned to looking as if nothing had happened, except for the scattered, disordered stones that proved a fight had just taken place here.
A youthful male beast with golden hair crouched on a black rock, gazing at the ground where the battle's remnants remained.
