Chapter 2: God-Level Comments and the Socially Anxious Big Shot
The moment he clicked into the live stream, Feng Yan almost thought his network had lagged.
The picture was as steady as an old dog.
The camera pointed straight at the workbench, not showing a single face.
Only a pair of hands stained with machine oil could be seen.
He was holding a soldering iron, carefully operating on a circuit board covered with components.
The background was still that familiar, messy corner of a warehouse.
The live stream didn't have many viewers, the online count showing around a hundred.
The bullet comments was also sparse.
【The big shot finally came back! I've been waiting so long my flowers wilted!】
【What are you doing? A new control board?】
【The streamer's hand is so steady, these solder points look great!】
【Can we see the mech move today? (Looking forward)】
The streamer "Iron Wolf", namely Li Yang, didn't even glance at the bullet comments.
He kept his head down working hard, occasionally glancing up at the waveform on the oscilloscope beside him.
His brows furrowed slightly as he muttered softly, "Still not right……"
His voice came through a mediocre microphone.
It was a bit dry and rough, yet sounded more real than in the video, carrying a youthful clarity.
It was exactly this focused attitude that filled the whole live stream with an aloof vibe of "I'm just here to work, you do whatever."
Seeing this, Feng Yan didn't rush to speak.
He held his phone, his body unconsciously sitting up straighter.
His gaze was sharp as if reviewing a major project report.
He first carefully observed Li Yang's operating technique and the component models scattered on the table.
And the somewhat unstable waveform on the oscilloscope.
After watching a while, he spotted the problem.
While Li Yang repeatedly tested a motor drive module, the attached small motor would speed up and slow down, accompanied by a faint "clunk" abnormal noise, clearly off.
Li Yang measured here and there with a multimeter.
Sweat beaded on his forehead, as if he were stuck in a certain mental blind spot.
Someone in the bullet comments also noticed:
【What's wrong with this motor? The stutter is so obvious?】
【Is the drive current insufficient?】
【Big shot, could you check the encoder interface?】
Li Yang still didn't look at the bullet comments, immersed in his own troubleshooting world.
As Feng Yan watched, memories of pulling all-nighters in the university lab tuning motor drives surfaced.
Back then, for a course project, he and a few buddies tinkered around circuit boards like this, piling up instant noodle boxes into a mountain.
He stared at the motor's model and the driver board's layout, recalling what he had learned before.
Combining the observed symptoms, several possibilities flashed through his mind.
His finger hovered over the comment box for a moment, then he quickly typed a line:
"Iron Wolf big shot, check the motor model and PWM waveform distortion."
"Could it be that the MOSFET gate drive resistor's resistance is too high, causing insufficient switching speed and resulting in torque fluctuation?"
"You could try placing a small resistor (say 10 ohms) in parallel between the gate and source."
"Or focus on checking whether the drive chip's bootstrap capacitor is poorly soldered or insufficient in capacity."
His bullet comments appeared among a bunch of "awesome", "666", and unrelated questions.
It stood out conspicuously, full of the professional flavor of peer communication.
After sending it, Feng Yan didn't hold high hopes.
After all, the big shot seemed to have nothing but circuit boards in his eyes.
However, after about ten or so seconds.
In the picture, Li Yang's rapidly moving hand suddenly stopped.
He lifted his head, for the first time earnestly looking at the computer screen (presumably where the bullet comments appears).
His gaze swept over the dense rolling text, passing those "big shot awesome".
Finally, it seemed to freeze on Feng Yan's lengthy and professional comment.
He remained silent for a few seconds, his lips twitching slightly, as if silently repeating Feng Yan's words.
Then……
He actually lowered his head, put down the multimeter, and picked up the soldering iron and desoldering pump.
He swiftly began to disassemble the suspected problematic drive resistor!
Feng Yan held his breath.
Others in the live stream also noticed the big shot suddenly changing his operation:
【Huh? Wolf brother, why did you suddenly start disassembling components?】
【Did you see that bullet comments just now?】
【@Feng Yan, bro, what did you say? The big shot actually listened to you?】
【Holy crap! Divine development!】
Li Yang, undistracted, quickly removed the old resistor.
He then precisely picked a smaller-value surface-mount resistor from the parts box at hand and skillfully soldered it in place.
After the operation, he verified with a multimeter that everything was correct.
He restored power.
Hum—
The motor that had just been sputtering and making strange noises instantly emitted a smooth, steady, pleasant whirring sound!
The waveform on the oscilloscope also became clean and neat.
Li Yang stared at the smoothly running motor for two seconds.
He seemed unable to believe that the problem that had troubled him for half an afternoon was just solved like that.
He raised his head again toward the camera, though he still didn't speak.
But in those eyes that had previously only reflected the circuit board, the icy shell that said "keep strangers away" visibly cracked open a slit.
He gave the camera a small but very definite nod.
A flash of recognition akin to "Buddy, you know your stuff" flickered in his gaze.
Just that nod made Feng Yan's heart bloom with joy, even better than Section Chief Wang praising his report!
There's hope! This step of technical trust should count as an initial establishment, right?
The live stream's comments instantly surged:
【Holy crap! The person who just posted that comment is also a big shot!】
【Divine prediction! It's already fixed?】
【@Feng Yan, big shot, I bow to you! Accepting disciples?】
【This live stream hides dragons and crouching tigers!】
【Scrap Iron Wolf big shot nodded! Rare! Historic moment!】
Feng Yan struck while the iron was hot, posted another comment, tone relaxed:
"All that matters is it's fixed. Your soldering skills are indeed steady, big shot."
This time Li Yang saw it.
He spoke into the microphone, a rare reply, though still just a few words:
"Mm, thanks."
The voice wasn't loud, but clear enough; the awkwardness faded a bit.
The ice is broken!
Feng Yan knew that relying on this one flash of inspiration wasn't enough.
In the following few live streams, whenever Li Yang encountered a thorny problem, especially involving control logic or system architecture,
Feng Yan would always post in the comments some constructive ideas based on his observation and professional knowledge.
Not necessarily correct every time, but the angle was often tricky.
It could offer another line of thought, clearly not a random keyboard warrior.
Occasionally, when Li Yang soldered a critical part, he was obviously missing a specific-value resistor or an obscure capacitor model on hand.
Feng Yan would still bear the sting and send a small gift worth a few dozen yuan (out of his own pocket, his heart bleeding).
With a note like "Buy the big shot a bottle of iced cola to perk up" or "Sponsor a capacitor, looking forward to the finished product."
After several times, Li Yang still didn't talk much, but he clearly left a deep impression of the ID "Feng Yan".
Occasionally, during a debugging break, he would simply reply into the microphone:
"Mm, I've tried this method," "No, the coupling interference is too big," which amounted to a preliminary, extremely crude technical exchange.
Feng Yan felt the timing was about right.
Once Li Yang successfully solved a structural stress simulation problem.
His mood looked good, and he even rarely stretched his body a bit toward the camera, at which point Feng Yan posted in the comments:
"Big shot, I have some questions about multi-sensor data fusion and underlying drive optimization architecture."
"I feel it can't be explained in a few words on the public screen; I wonder if it's convenient to ask you privately?"
After sending that, Feng Yan's fingertips were slightly sweaty.
He knew this was still a probe, the crucial step determining whether he could upgrade from "commentary big shot" to "friend capable of deep communication".
In the live stream picture, Li Yang saw this comment and paused again.
He glanced at the screen at the ID "Feng Yan" that had become familiar, each appearance bringing reliable advice.
He recalled the other party's professionalism displayed over this period and their "righteous generosity" (although just small gifts).
He didn't respond on the public screen, and his expression didn't change either.
He simply continued his work, finishing the last few lines of code.
Feng Yan waited a moment, his heart starting to pound:
Had he been too eager again? Killed the conversation?
Just as he thought this probe had failed, preparing to look for another chance next time—
His True Sound app suddenly popped up a private message notification.
Bright red, coming from—"Scrap Iron Wolf"!
Feng Yan's heart jumped, and he quickly opened it.
The message was still brief and touching.
It contained only a WeChat number.
Plus three characters:
"Add this."
Finally done! Holy shit!
Feng Yan felt a surge of excitement, his fist clenching instinctively, but he held it in and didn't show it in the bullet comments.
He quickly jotted down the number, then posted a message on the live stream's public chat:
"Received, thanks, big shot!"
That nonsensical bullet comment, Li Yang saw it, but still didn't respond.
But the arm controlling the machine seemed a bit more nimble.
Meanwhile, the other viewers in the live stream were a bit puzzled:
【What did you receive?】
【What riddle are you guys playing?】
【I missed what? Feels like @Feng Yan and Lang Lao made some mysterious deal!】
【Envious! Is this getting picked by the big shot? I also want WeChat!】
Feng Yan didn't look at the bullet comments any further, immediately exited the live stream, and searched to add that WeChat ID.
He pondered the verification message a bit, then wrote: "TikTok, Feng Yan, asking about the sensor problem."
A few minutes later, a soft "beep" sound—
The verification passed.
In the friend list, a silent wolf head appeared.
Feng Yan stared at that avatar, his finger hovering over the screen for a moment, but ultimately he didn't rush to send a message.
He exited WeChat and switched back to the live stream interface that was still ongoing.
On the screen, Li Yang had already swapped a component and was debugging it.
It seemed as if that little interlude had never happened.
But Feng Yan noticed the previously faulty motor drive board beside him.
It had been replaced with a new resistor and was running steadily.
Feng Yan cracked a smile, and also didn't continue posting bullet comments.
He just silently watched for a while, then exited the live stream.
Outside the window, the sky had already darkened, and the people in the office building had mostly left.
He stretched, then lowered his head to look at the newly added silent WeChat friend on his phone screen.
He then lifted his eyes to the computer screen, where a report titled "Preliminary Survey Report on the Potential of Folk-Special Industry (Draft)" bore only a title.
He stroked his chin, his eyes revealing his excitement at the moment.
"Looks like this report... finally has something to write about."
