Chapter 121: Oana
Breaking the employment contract is clearly unrealistic.
It was a magic contract of very high rank, automatically registered into the Guonei Force upon signing.
"You should know that in magical disasters, some phenomena are extremely difficult to fully remove or stabilize—such as magical or alchemical creations that only manifest when activated. For such hazards, the Guonei Force has a specialized department: the Containment Division."
"If the Snow Hill Evening News were to compile a ranking of the 'Most Unpopular Departments in the Guonei Force,' the Containment Division would top it."
Sharon's face turned ashen.
The two were heading toward the office of Deputy Supervisor Oana.
Luo De wasn't particularly nervous.
He mentally ran through any possible connections he might have with this Guonei Force supervisor.
Slavery spells were out of the question—he had never hidden them. Keeping succubi, orcs, and ghouls? He did it openly.
Could it be something from Sharon's investigation report?
Luo De guessed she might be interested in high-tier dungeon access passes.
"Why is it so unpopular?"
He asked.
"Containment Division staff must inspect containment objects daily. To test their properties, they often use death row inmates from various nations—but even then, it remains the deadliest department outside the Field Operations Unit."
"And you might not even know how you died! That kind of unknown is as repulsive as an extradimensional space!"
As she spoke, Sharon shivered, her dog tail curling tightly.
"I heard there's a bird-person statue there—you must keep your eyes on it at all times, or it'll rush toward you and snap your head off with a click!"
Hearing this, Luo De chuckled:
"Sounds less like a magical creation and more like some country's ghost story."
"It's real!"
The puppy protested, "The Research Division's mages even developed a new spell, 【Closed-Eye Instant Move】, based on this statue—it allows ultra-fast movement when no one is watching."
"More importantly, Supervisor Oana is Lady Julia's personal mage. Though she doesn't manage much, her influence is far from negligible!"
As they spoke,
they arrived outside an office.
After gently tugging the doorbell,
soon,
a gentle, soft female voice came from within—sounding young, with a faint lisp from early speech:
"Come in."
The two exchanged glances.
The puppy Sharon swallowed hard; Luo De smiled.
Click—
The alchemical corridor lights flooded into the room, revealing its interior.
Beneath the high ceiling, dark curtains embroidered with celestial movements and ancient incantations hung slowly.
The floor was covered in a finely woven, colorful rug, its surface stitched with complex magical arrays and low-level mages' incomprehensible runes.
At the rug's end stood a large desk, scattered with wands, crystal balls, and unfinished scrolls; beside it, piles of books nearly swallowed the corner.
A mage in a white robe stood calmly.
The hood's shadow hid her face; only her hand resting on the desk revealed her as a woman with wheat-colored skin.
"Supervisor Oana."
Both greeted in unison.
"No small talk."
Supervisor Oana waved her hand.
Even without seeing her face, Luo De felt her gaze settle on him.
"Forester Luo De, would you be interested in becoming a woman? I know a plague mage who specializes in gender transformation—her technique is the best I've ever seen."
"."
Luo De's forehead darkened with sweat.
"What? Silence means you're agreeing?"
"No, Supervisor Oana. I have no intention of changing gender. I'm perfectly content as a man."
"Really not considering? Girls are sweet-smelling, you know. I could even arrange facial transformation spells—your face is handsome, but too rugged."
"Not considering!"
Luo De said firmly.
He suspected that even a flicker of hesitation or thought would be seized by this woman.
Some high-level mind-altering spells can amplify fleeting thoughts.
The Snow Hill Evening News once reported a tragedy:
A dog-headed man once thought, "If only I were a clam—I wouldn't have to work, just open and close all day." A mischievous mage learned this and twisted it, amplifying the thought, "I am a shell."
As a result, the man broke off two doors, ran to the shore, and began opening and closing himself like a clam—he's still like that.
The local authorities, shameless as ever, even created a "Clam Festival" modeled after Jade City's Dragon Viewing Festival, occasionally dragging him out as a tourist attraction.
Sure enough,
threads of magic flickered across Luo De's head.
"Ah, such high mental resistance."
As she spoke, Deputy Supervisor Oana's tone brimmed with amusement and surprise.
"Supervisor Oana, this—"
Sharon finally recovered from the shock and hurriedly asked.
"It's nothing, just a little joke."
Your disappointed expression doesn't look like a joke.
Luo De thought helplessly.
This white-robed mage's magical accumulation was the highest he'd ever seen.
To be targeted by someone like this right after joining…
Honestly, Luo De did entertain a fleeting thought of quitting the Guonei Force.
As if sensing it,
"Aaaah, sorry sorry! I really was just joking!"
This Oana mage actually lowered her status, apologizing repeatedly.
She frantically pulled out a pile of items from her spell satchel:
A Guonei Force uniform, over a dozen spellbooks, a handful of magical rings, stacks of spell materials, and various credentials.
Sharon stared in disbelief.
Are the onboarding benefits really this generous?
But Luo De didn't take them—he watched her with suspicion.
". t's Lady Hera!" After a brief pause, Oana found her breakthrough.
"Scorpion Woman Hera?"
"Yes! Lady Hera is a close friend of Lady Julia—she specifically asked me to look after you!"
Not true.
Inside, Oana was already weeping silently.
Based on years of experience as Lady Julia's caretaker, she knew most of her words couldn't be trusted.
Castration? Impossible.
But investigation was certain. Lady Hera and Lady Julia's relationship was extraordinary—if this forester truly had ties to her, Julia would only cause a fuss, then ultimately yield to Hera's wishes.
So this Luo De absolutely couldn't be offended!
Waaah.
I just wanted to read his thoughts—I never meant to actually turn his mind into a girl's!
I should've never made such a joke!
She clenched the book "One Hundred Ways to Build Better Relationships" in her pocket, wanting to tear it up immediately.
But Luo De's eyes now held clear wariness.
"It's true! Look—I heard you're a one-handed sword warrior, so I brought you this!"
She frantically pulled out a silver longsword.
It clearly radiated wild, unstable sentience.
