Chapter 641: Fulfilling an Appointment

~6 min read 1,147 words

Lyla Starwhisper’s eyes sparkled with pink, girl-specific starlight.

She hesitated, then boldly stepped forward, tiptoeing and gliding closer to Luo De and Sirene Riv.

“Excuse me, are you two lovers?”

Just then, the two had finished their conversation.

Riv glanced curiously at the celebrity, instinctively licking her lips: “I’m a Siren. In our legends, once in love, we turn into bubbles.”

“How tragic—to willingly lose your life just to love a human.”

“Hey hey hey, did I say anything like that? Lord Luo is my boss, my employer! My lord, can I eat her? I’ve never eaten a Cloud Sprite before.”

“No.”

Luo De glanced at the rapidly rising [Gluttony Points] on his panel.

He found it amusing.

Pan Ni, the Ghoul, also loved meat, but her appetite was clearly small—half a human adult’s steak was enough to make her full.

Sometimes, when she was being playful, two or three sips of [Primordial Dew] would leave her completely satiated.

So she naturally provided few Gluttony Points.

Until now, most had come from Little Horsemaid Bond and the female beastwoman Amy.

But even that was limited.

Just these two or three encounters with Sirene Riv had surpassed their accumulated total.

Lyla Starwhisper paid no mind to the Siren’s threat to eat her.

In fact, once she noticed there were no spectators, she barely cared about the stalker behind her, who was nearly dead.

“Can I chat with you? Mr. Luo, about you and your girls.”

Merely looking at the man before her,

Lyla felt inspiration gushing wildly in her mind—new songs

No.

Not just new songs—I feel I could produce a whole album right now!

“No.”

Luo De waved his hand at Riv to shoo her away.

The Siren pouted, cast one last lingering glance at Luo De’s exposed flesh, then turned and dove into the sea.

Lyla raised her hand to block the splashing water, her eyes brightening:

“She can’t bear to leave you! See that?”

“She’s just fond of my flesh. Enough talk—get your people to pick you up.”

“Wait a moment, let’s chat some more. I heard you keep a succubus—is that true? Doesn’t she get jealous?”

Luo De ignored her.

He turned toward a sudden magical shadow appearing on the beach.

A strand of silk flashed from the dark mass, then stretched open.

A young female mage slowly rose, her face fearful, head bowed, not daring to look at Luo De: “My lord.”

That was the Spider Elf Yuna’s skill, [Temporal Silk], generated by Luo De’s [Growth Spirit].

When attached to any spell, it grants brief spatial teleportation.

Long-term irrigation with [Primordial Dew] had elevated the Spider Lady to the seventh tier, and she had gained enough insight to create sub-versions of the skill to temporarily grant to her subordinates.

The female mage looked vaguely familiar—perhaps one Yuna had picked up from somewhere.

“Where’s Yuna?”

“Lady Yuna is handling an illegal rogue mage lab in the east city district—she’s currently occupied. Very sorry.”

“Whatever. Dispose of the corpse and send her back.”

“As you command.”

The female mage opened her palm—no incantation or mana slot needed—she directly used Yuna’s ethereal little spider to spew thick webs.

She wrapped the corpse on the ground into a mummy, then sank it into shadow.

“Miss Lyla, please.”

This time, Lyla did not resist; she obediently took the mage’s outstretched hand—the man’s attack had truly frightened her.

She turned her head again toward Luo De: “How do I find you? I mean, we still need to discuss concert arrangements.”

“You don’t need to find me. Someone else will handle it.”

“But I still need to thank you for saving me twice.”

“No need. Just behave yourself and finish the concert.”

Luo De said nothing more, bent his knees slightly, unleashed a burst of power, and infused his hands with [Repulsion Technique]—his entire body shot instantly into the air.

The flames of Hell rapidly wrapped around him as he ascended, forming a massive fireball.

With a surge of searing heat, he shot across the sky, trailing thick black smoke, vanishing from their sight in moments.

Lyla stared in shock at the lingering black smoke in the sky, surprised the man cared nothing for her.

She bit her lip, expression resentful.

“You won’t let me find you? Then I’ll find you anyway.”

By the time Luo De arrived at the rendezvous point with Haley, it was nearly noon.

This was the southern edge of the Koe Plains.

Relatively close to a branch of the Hansen River, with a survivor camp nearby.

But when Luo De and the Bunny Girl Oona had searched for the missing Fungus Girl Scarlett, they’d stayed overnight here—Helen, the manager, was a very warm-hearted half-elf who sheltered ordinary survivors still alive on the Koe Plains.

He didn’t know if she was still here after all this time.

The Star-Spirit lady was lounging half-reclined on the head of a gargoyle, with no decorum at all.

One leg crossed over the other, her slender, translucent dark-blue calf dangling and swaying in midair.

In her hands, she held a small book, occasionally giggling foolishly.

“Haley.”

“Ahh—”

Haley hastily hid the book behind her back, forcing a polite, smug smile: “. You’re here so early, Luo De? There’s still time.”

“Since you’re idle, what are you reading? So happy.”

Her expression stiffened: “Nothing—just some funny novels. Let me take you to lunch?”

“Sure.”

The two moved off.

The Star-Spirits maintained a base on the Koe Plains under the Star Association; they faced no risk of infection from the Beastification Blood.

Star-Spirits believe Beastification is one path to sensing distant star systems and finding the way home.

Rather, they crave infection.

Fortunately, their experiments target only themselves, with no impact on others.

If that’s truly the case, it’s best.

The main course and branches of the Hansen River on Dusk Hill have now been fully surveyed.

Only the Shepherd Village branch shows issues.

Karist will soon begin investigating the Koe Plains.

And changing the method of infection? That’s exactly what the Star Association would hope for.

Luo De’s purpose here is to act as Vanguard.

It’s strange, though.

Luo De has wandered the Koe Plains many times, yet he’s never seen the Star-Spirits’ base.

After flying for half an hour,

They arrived at one of the few mountains on the Koe Plains—though only five or six hundred meters tall.

Haley led Luo De into a cave atop the peak and pulled out a brown wooden disc with a dial, resembling a compass from his past life.

She pressed the disc onto a pre-established magical device and turned the dial.

As the dial rotated, the cave’s ceiling above them also turned, replaced by a bright, mostly white ceiling!
