Chapter 95: The Banshee and the Hot City (Request First Subscription)

~6 min read 1,157 words

“Could it really be here for me?”

As the turbulent airwaves gradually settled.

Luo De stepped aside, watching the massive army of Hot City march past before his eyes.

The fire lizards and humans in the ranks occasionally turned to glance at him.

A wizard carrying a long staff ran up from behind.

“Sir! Sir!”

He was thin, wearing a wizard’s hat wider than his shoulders.

His skin was much paler than that of the humans in the army.

Lily walked up from behind.

She pouted, brushed aside the leaves above her head, and cast a cleansing spell on herself.

“Legendary spell.”

“Mm, don’t do anything rash.”

Luo De finally witnessed the power of a seventh-rank legendary wizard specializing in destruction.

He couldn’t help but think.

If he had stood at the epicenter and tanked it with [Dragon Scale Technique], would it have worked?

The army wizard reached the two of them.

“Oh! And a halfling lady as well.”

“Good afternoon, both. My name is Tobert, the ceremonial wizard accompanying Hot City’s army. I apologize for disturbing you.”

With that, Tobert gave a light bow.

The two found him polite enough.

So they introduced themselves in turn.

“Mr. Luo De, Miss Lily, are you heading toward Jade City or Hot City?”

“There’s still someone at the bottom of that temple—we originally meant to rescue her.”

The two did not answer directly.

Tobert paused.

He looked ahead.

Then nodded into empty air, murmuring, “Understood.” “Got it.”

Luo De knew he was using a spell similar to [Chain of Far Speech] to communicate.

And the recipient was almost certainly the legendary wizard in the ranks.

As he spoke, Tobert suddenly exhaled in relief.

He turned to the two and smiled:

“Good—our lord sensed someone below and set up a protective field in advance. Nothing should happen. You’re truly brave; that was a seventh-rank Dread Beast.”

“We didn’t plan to fight it—we only meant to save lives.”

“Still, that’s brave enough! F12 and E8 squads, step out and destroy the debris to search for survivors.”

“Understood!”

“Understood!”

No sooner had he spoken.

Two ten-man squads broke from the formation and headed toward the temple.

Lily asked, “Will this work? Won’t it interfere with your mission?”

To be honest, she was surprised by Hot City’s courteous and warm attitude.

Luo De, however, remained wary.

He still remembered how the Holy Flame Squad had colluded with the army.

He had even killed a group of their pursuers.

“No interference—they’ll catch up later. This isn’t a classified mission; we’re just transporting a corrupted emerald tree back to Jade City.”

Luo De and Lily exchanged glances.

Each saw doubt in the other’s eyes.

An entire army, led by a legendary wizard, just to haul back a corrupted, useless emerald tree?

But army affairs were never to be probed too deeply.

They nodded, said they still had to rescue someone, and quickly took their leave.

About half an hour passed.

Hot City’s squad cleared a passage through the collapsed temple and soon revealed the Banshee, trapped within the protective field.

She had already been knocked unconscious by the legendary spell’s shockwave, lying beside Lu En’s corpse.

Once they fully moved her outside.

Luo De gave each soldier who helped a small payment.

The two squad leaders were a human and a fire lizard.

The fire lizard leader seemed more pleased with Luo De’s coins.

He casually asked where they were headed.

When he heard “Jade City,” he smiled and said:

“Jade City? Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend you go there.”

“Why?”

Lily asked.

The fire lizard was about to answer when the human squad leader cleared his throat twice, shooting them a warning glance.

The fire lizard leader shrugged and said nothing, quickly leading his squad away.

The sun sank below the horizon, golden twilight bathing the land.

The labyrinth’s temperature dropped rapidly; a thermal current surged upward from the temperature differential.

“What do you think?”

Luo De watched their retreating figures, slowly distorted by the rising heatwave.

“Doesn’t seem right. I don’t believe a legendary wizard would go to such lengths for just one corrupted emerald tree.”

Lily said flatly.

Agreed.

Luo De thought to himself.

This army wouldn’t move fast—he needed to hurry back and have Gaima guide them around Hot City on their return.

“What about her?”

Lily pointed at the unconscious Chriss on the ground.

Jade City seemed to be brewing trouble again; sending this foolish, reckless Banshee back was clearly not a good option.

Seeing things through to the end was always the Brotherhood’s principle.

Just dumping her somewhere violated her sense of aesthetics.

“Let’s talk while we walk.”

Luo De slung Chriss over his shoulder—she felt almost weightless.

“Actually, you could hand her over to me. I have a subjugation spell—I could retrain—uh, educate her. It’s not impossible.”

Lily slowly turned her gaze toward him.

Her dead-fish eyes regarded him with suspicion.

“What’s that look for? Come on, she’s a spirit entity.”

“A man who keeps a succubus—I wouldn’t doubt you’d do anything outrageous.”

As she spoke, Lily suddenly recalled Luo De’s gaze when she had fallen from her breastplate.

Her expression grew slightly uneasy.

“Don’t you dare slander me! I’m very clean—uh, never mind.”

Luo De had been about to say he was morally upright, but then remembered he’d recently done something with a tree—and his mood soured instantly.

Damn it!

Eva gave me psychological trauma!

“Alright, it’s the only option left. I’ll leave her to you. Hope you can teach her how to be a normal Banshee.”

“Don’t worry—I’m excellent at teaching. I just taught a dragon girl how to maintain healthy habits.”

[Subjugation Successful]

[Subjugated Subject 7: Chriss Holde Frederiksen]

[Race: Banshee]

[Age: 21]

[Compliance: 31]

[Evaluation: A sentient race transformed after death. They lose all memories from their mortal life and become new members of the continent. Note: Banshees are habitual liars; they emit shrill wails upon learning of any death. A vile race.

Yet, their ability to shift between physical and ethereal forms offers an experience rare across the continent—do not miss it.]

Luo De once again ignored the teasing in the evaluation.

Low obedience is normal; there’s plenty of time to gradually train her properly.

One day later.

When Luo De arrived at the outpost outside the labyrinth,

he was delighted to find Gaima wandering nearby, seated on a magical automaton.

The goblin immediately spotted Luo De.

She waved at him excitedly.

Upon asking, he learned that since he left, she had felt increasingly uneasy.

Gaima, who always trusted her instincts, swiftly packed her belongings and came to wait at the outpost before the labyrinth.

And when she saw the army of Hot City, she was even more relieved.

I forgot to write a thank-you note for the launch; here I thank all the brothers who support me, and wish you good health and success in all you do.
