Chapter 57: You Want to Chase Me? (Request Follows!)
It turned out Xu Qingzhou’s earlier feeling was right—the squad leader was indeed stricter than the other instructors.
After the morning training ended, the evaluation session began.
“Proper formation training hones our spirit and willpower. To be honest, I’m not satisfied with you all. I hope during training, everyone takes it seriously and follows orders without question.”
While the squad leader was giving his evaluation, someone in the crowd muttered under their breath, “Fuck, such a nag.”
Xu Qingzhou thought, Shit—someone’s an idiot, picking this moment to provoke him.
Sure enough, the squad leader’s already dark face grew even darker, but he’d trained plenty of new recruits and had seen plenty of troublemakers—he didn’t get angry, instead saying calmly, “Since you all think I’m nagging, I won’t say any more.”
Xu Zhengyang’s face broke into a victorious grin; he silently praised that brave guy, even shouting inwardly: Brother, you’re our hero.
Hearing Shen Yueqing’s words, she slightly raised her brow, looking at Xu Qingzhou, her eyes moist and gleaming: “You want me to be your girlfriend?”

“Stand at attention!” the squad leader warned, his face dark.
Xu Qingzhou was surprised—no wonder only Shen Yueqing and Qiao Yongjuan had stopped in front of Song Yao’s group. He shook his head, “I’m not looking for Xue Ying.”
Xu Qingzhou immediately drew the attention of many male recruits.
The others relaxed as well.
The instructor walked up to the person, “Did you report?”
Xu Qingzhou sighed—looks like I’ll have to let you all feel the full force of a direct assault.
“I swear, she just looked at me!” Xu Zhengyang exclaimed, excited as if he’d made a discovery.
He turned to Zhai Ziqiang: “Old Zhai, you’re in charge of rewarding Old Xu.”
Was a brother finally stepping forward? But Xu Qingzhou noticed the source of the commotion was to their left.
Fortunately, at that moment the instructor shouted, “Form up!”
“Protest!” someone objected.
About four minutes passed; the instructors on the field finished their evaluations, dismissed their squads, until only Xu Qingzhou’s unit remained.
Even so, the boys kept glancing toward that direction.
“Xue Ying has a bit of heatstroke—Zhang Shuyi took her back to the dorm to rest,” Qiao Yongjuan explained, unlike Shen Yueqing.
So Xu Qingzhou’s squad could only watch the other squads disband one by one.
Two girls walked toward her; the one in the middle smiled sweetly, “Song Yao, can I add your contact? We’re in the same squad—we can hang out together later.”
“So brave?”
“That guy’s going over!”
One male recruit sighed, “A true role model—learn from him. If you’ve got thick enough skin, you’ll get a story.”
“No, not just a story—you’ll get an accident,” muttered the man beside him.
This time, no one dared to interrupt—they listened quietly.
Shen Yueqing paused slightly, as if recalling something, then sneered, “You’re not seriously trying to pursue Song Yao, are you?”
The boys far away held their breath, staring intently at Xu Qingzhou and Song Yao—they already guessed the outcome. A moment ago, they’d faintly heard phrases like “pursue Song Yao” and “will you say yes?”
Shen Yueqing hadn’t expected Xu Qingzhou to be so direct—she fell silent, determined to watch him get coldly rejected. What a jerk!
“Holy shit, Old Xu is serious!” Xu Zhengyang gasped in shock.
Kong Xianbo and a few others stared wide-eyed, partly admiring Xu Qingzhou, partly bewildered—he’d never been this bold before.
“Pfft, if he even looks at you, I’ll go eat shit right now!” Xu Zhengyang rolled his eyes.
“Everyone, at ease! Attention! Hold military posture for five minutes—start now!” The squad leader knew his limits—first day, no excessive intensity, especially since they were all students.
“Today, I’m telling you this: You are a collective—your glory is shared, your shame is shared!”
“Report! I protest! We didn’t say it—why punish us too?”
She’d assumed Xu Qingzhou was just talking big, never expecting him to actually do it— Laihamachitianerou was a fairy tale, not reality! When Shen Yueqing targeted Xu Qingzhou, Song Yao had already put down her phone.
He walked toward Song Yao’s direction.
Xu Qingzhou patted Xu Zhengyang’s shoulder, “Old Xu, remember to grab a snack in the restroom later.”
The girl’s hair was tied up under her cap, her face delicate, her eyebrows long and curved, radiating breathtaking beauty—just standing there, she made the male recruits feel like basking in spring breeze, the scorching heat vanishing instantly.
Just as Xu Qingzhou was feeling frustrated, a commotion erupted in the squad.
“Quiet!” the squad leader barked, his face stern. The murmuring finally died down; he nodded in satisfaction, “Today’s the first day—some rules need to be clear.”
Shen Yueqing also spotted Xu Qingzhou; when he approached, she said impatiently, “Xu Qingzhou, you came looking for Xue Ying? She’s not here.”
An old woman carrying a trash bag was picking up bottles; Xu Qingzhou watched her pour the remaining third of her water onto the ground and into the bag.
“Okay,” Song Yao nodded, pulling out her phone, then noticed Xu Qingzhou’s squad had been dismissed—she waved, signaling him to come over quickly.
“My eyes aren’t blind,” Xu Qingzhou replied, glancing at Song Yao and seeing her looking back at him.
He stared at Song Yao, his gaze intense, almost tender: “Yes. Will you say yes?”
Xu Qingzhou felt things wouldn’t be this simple.
In Xu Qingzhou’s eyes, Shen Yueqing was practically slapping her own face and shouting: Hit me! Go ahead and hit me!
Kong Xianbo adjusted his glasses, “Judging by her expression, she’s waiting for someone, right?”
!.
Xu Qingzhou murmured, “It wasn’t an illusion—she was looking at me.”
“Old Xu, I really thought you’d moved on, but even you can’t resist a beauty,” Kong Xianbo sighed slowly.
Song Yao held a pink little cup, fanning herself gently, occasionally glancing toward Xu Qingzhou’s direction, checking if dismissal had come.
“Holy shit, that’s Song Yao—she’s gorgeous!” Xu Zhengyang elbowed Xu Qingzhou, voice excited.
The field was quiet, only the wind making noise.
A few seconds later, the beautiful girl spoke.
“Think about it.”
Her voice was cool and clear, beautiful to hear.
