Chapter 344: Guilliman Contemplates Whether He Is Materialist

~8 min read 1,422 words

"So what is the Primarch's psychic essence?" Guilliman stared, bewildered and confused, at Sanguinius and Zhou Yun.

His eyes were filled with confusion, as if he could not fathom why a Primarch would be tied to the Warp, why a Primarch's essence would reside within it.

Zhou Yun and Sanguinius exchanged a glance, both brimming with obvious difficulty.

The Warp is a subjective realm; everything within it is bound to the truth of will.

Just as Mortarion firmly believed in numerology, his own psychic power made numerology work through his hands.

If a Primarch truly believed, deep within, that he had no connection to the Warp, his own psychic power would make him truly severed from it.

Of course, that should be impossible—Primarchs all possess immense psychic potential; their Warp aspect is as vital as their flesh.

Logically, even the least psychically gifted Primarchs should instinctively tap into their power, like Perturabo's innate knowledge, Konrad Curze's prophetic sight, or Sanguinius's wings.

These abilities clearly surpass what their superhuman genes could achieve, even transcending physical laws; most Primarchs should, over time or through life, become aware of their non-material cosmic nature.

Even Mortarion merely tried to explain his nature through numerology, never outright denying it.

But perhaps due to his upbringing, Guilliman truly had no awareness that he was tied to the Warp at all.

Zhou Yun and Sanguinius silently exchanged thoughts, deciding to give Guilliman a brief explanation.

After all, the three of them were meant to be united allies; most information should not be withheld from one another.

"The Emperor used his own genetic sequence to forge the genetic templates of twenty-one Primarchs, then edited these twenty-one templates to create twenty-one superhuman offspring."

"But mere physical strength was not enough—the Emperor also needed to infuse his children with power from the Warp."

Zhou Yun carefully chose his words and relayed to Guilliman what he knew:

"Long before the Primarchs were born, the Emperor had already drawn twenty Warp entities from the Warp—entities that were the unborn Primarchs, twenty extraordinary spiritual forces."

"I'm not certain our Father truly understood the nature of those twenty forces," Sanguinius added softly. "They may have been remnants of humanity's ancient gods, old deities of other civilizations, powerful beings born in the future, or echoes of emotions and wills formed in the Warp by certain peoples."

"But regardless of what those twenty Warp entities truly were, before we were born, we existed on the other side of the Warp. Then the Emperor used his genetic sequence to shape our physical bodies. The twenty worlds we landed on further shaped us, imprinting upon us the values, thoughts, kindness, cruelty, distortions, and flaws of those who raised us—human or otherwise."

Sanguinius slightly opened his arms, displaying his nearly perfect form to Guilliman:

"Thus we were given humanity; thus we were molded as men. But we cannot deny that, on a level deeper than the soul, on the level of concept, we are from the Warp."

"Most of the time we unconsciously channel our power, attempting to use it through instinct, superstition, and knowledge. But if we recognize our form before birth into the material universe, if we become aware of our duty and essence, the true Warp beings beneath our human facade will manifest."

"So, did Father forget to infuse me with Warp power? Or deliberately omit me?" Guilliman said, stroking his chin.

". Huh?" Sanguinius and Zhou Yun both exclaimed in confusion.

"Isn't that right? We have twenty-one brothers, but Father only drew twenty Warp entities—clearly, one of us received no Warp component, only a purely material body."

Guilliman said, puzzled:

"Obviously, I am the only Primarch who was never infused with Warp essence. That also explains why all of you have psychic potential or other supernatural abilities, while I have none."

"." Zhou Yun blinked, bewildered, then looked at Sanguinius.

Sanguinius blinked too, then looked confusedly at Zhou Yun.

Neither of them had followed Guilliman's logic.

There were twenty Warp essences and twenty-one Primarchs because the twentieth Primarch was a twin—Alpharius and Omegon shared one existence—not because the Emperor overlooked Guilliman.

Sanguinius silently studied the Guilliman before him.

From the Warp's perspective, Sanguinius saw Guilliman as a storm of blue and gold, roaring yet radiating a certain order.

He couldn't name what it was, but he had no doubt: Guilliman was not special—he, too, possessed a Warp essence, just like every other Primarch.

Sanguinius opened his mouth slightly to explain, but Zhou Yun spoke before him.

"Yes, yes, you're absolutely right," Zhou Yun nodded vigorously at Guilliman, then gave Sanguinius a look—signaling he needn't explain further.

How could you explain this? If this could be explained, then Perturabo could stop being twisted, Curze's madness could be cured, and Angron's nails could be pulled out.

"Let's talk about Magnus's issue instead."

Sanguinius sighed and changed the subject:

"Magnus's essence may lie within the Book of Magnus—or it may be the Book of Magnus itself."

"There is no time in the Warp. In the material universe, Magnus wrote the Book of Magnus. But in the Warp, the Book of Magnus gave birth to Magnus. All knowledge within that book has been activated—including those aspects concerning Magnus's self. It is a being more complete, more powerful, more essential than the Magnus currently active in the Warp."

"If we can damage the Book of Magnus, we might wound Magnus's very existence, perhaps even prevent him from entering the material universe for centuries, as with Fulgrim."

"Even better—we could sell Magnus to Zhou Yun."

"How did you even discover this?" Guilliman frowned.

Zhou Yun also turned a curious gaze toward Sanguinius, asking how he had uncovered such vital information.

Zhou Yun himself possessed a copy of the Book of Magnus, retrieved from the Black Library. According to the Four-Dimensional Pocket's appraisal, this copy was linked to the original—if certain artifacts were used, Zhou Yun could directly enter the Book of Magnus and seek Magnus's Warp essence.

Sanguinius slowly recounted his brief clash with Magnus in the Warp.

"Could this be the trick of the Changer of Ways?" Guilliman asked.

Sanguinius's discovery of Magnus's Warp essence felt far too coincidental—as if the Changer of Ways had been waiting for him to find it.

Zhou Yun held a copy of the Book of Magnus from the Black Library, and precisely at this critical moment, he learned the book's connection to Magnus's Warp essence. Everything had unfolded too smoothly.

It was hard not to suspect whether this was a scheme woven by the Changer of Ways, designed to lure Sanguinius, Zhou Yun, and Guilliman into a trap—to decipher that dangerous Book of Magnus.

"It very likely is. But I am nearly certain the Book of Magnus is Magnus's essence."

!

A faint smile crossed Sanguinius's lips:

"But the Changer of Ways' tricks are constantly being consumed, while Doraemon's gadgets are infinite."

"Humanity's third millennium has long been concealed by the Emperor. Even the Changer of Ways could hardly have anticipated what kind of gadgets Zhou Yun might possess."

"I think it's worth a try."

Guilliman still frowned.

He was not skilled at planning around such matters, especially when supernatural Warp forces were involved—and his understanding of Doraemon's gadgets paled next to Sanguinius's, who had long ago acquired the complete Doraemon series from the Warp.

"Too reckless. Reaching Terra is now more important than any other objective."

"You fear being late again, as you were ten thousand years ago," Sanguinius said calmly, as if seeing through Guilliman's deepest thoughts. "Such opportunities are rare. I believe it's worth trying."

"."

Beside them, Zhou Yun remained silent, reaching into his Four-Dimensional Pocket:

"Ding ding ding ding! The Right-or-Wrong Oracle!"

Zhou Yun pulled out a red circle and a blue cross from his pocket.

"Why are you arguing? Why not ask my marvelous tool?"

Zhou Yun pointed to the Right-or-Wrong Oracle on the table.

"Magnus's Warp essence is the Book of Magnus," Zhou Yun asked the oracle directly.

The red circle leapt up, flashing several times in midair—confirming Zhou Yun's statement as correct.

So it really is. Zhou Yun's eyes flickered slightly. If this were the Changer of Ways' scheme, the bait was far too tempting.

Then Zhou Yun looked at Sanguinius and Guilliman.

"What are you staring at?"

Zhou Yun smiled:

"Why don't you both write detailed plans right away, so my Right-or-Wrong Oracle can judge them?"

Hearing this, Sanguinius gave Guilliman a slightly resentful look: "Of course, being with you means never escaping overtime."
