Chapter 52: Yebi the Emperor?
Looking at the girl before him who claimed to be a vessel of the Emperor’s will, Zhou Yun couldn’t help but shrug.
He pointed toward the door and said:
“Outside, my good brother Lei Dasha also believes she’s been chosen by the Emperor Himself.”
“Have you two considered talking to each other?”
Zhou Yun had long grown indifferent.
Facing the countless so-called Chosen Ones from the Undernest and Lower Nest of Asford, he no longer had the energy to tell truth from lie.
A vessel of the Emperor’s will?
Fine, fine, you say you are? Even if you claim the Emperor conceived you with his ass, I’d believe you.
“She is that One’s tool,” Leina whispered, lowering her head. “I am too. Everyone can be.”
“We just serve different purposes, bear different responsibilities.”
“Is that so?”
Zhou Yun glanced at the winged figure in the white light at the corner of his eye:
“How coincidental—I’m the Chosen of an angel.”
Hearing Zhou Yun’s words, Leina blinked her deer-like, hazy eyes in confusion.
She scrutinized him up and down, then pulled her neck back and said, “Really?”
“.” Zhou Yun’s eye twitched.
You don’t dispute that Lei Na is chosen by the Emperor,
but when I say I’m the Chosen of an angel, you ask if it’s real?
Though Zhou Yun himself had always doubted the winged figure in the white light.
“No, I’m not doubting you.”
Noticing Zhou Yun’s gaze, Leina hurried to speak, her voice flustered:
“It’s just… the Archangel has already been sacrificed. Completely sacrificed.”
Leina’s voice grew quieter as she stared into Zhou Yun’s eyes,
until after a long silence, she whispered in the faintest tone:
“Could it be a scheme of the God of Change—Carlo or Magnus in disguise?”
Zhou Yun: “.”
The winged figure in the white light: “.”
Why did Leina’s words feel so familiar to Zhou Yun?
“She just said everything you were going to say,” the winged figure in the white light murmured.
Zhou Yun looked from the winged figure in the white light at his eye’s corner to the girl before him.
“Do you think she’s a vessel of the Emperor’s will?”
Zhou Yun asked the winged figure in his mind:
“She thinks you’re the God of Change’s pet.”
“I don’t know. How am I supposed to know if she’s the Emperor’s vessel?” The winged figure shook his head,
giving Zhou Yun a look that said, “Why are you asking me this?”
This made Zhou Yun frown slightly:
“Can’t you speak directly to the Emperor? You’re an angel, aren’t you?”
“What are you thinking? If the Primarchs could speak directly to the Emperor, things wouldn’t be this complicated.”
The winged figure in the white light shook his head:
“I occasionally receive messages from Him across the Warp’s torrent.”
“But those messages are often contradictory and chaotic.”
“Sometimes He calls me His finest son; other times, He calls me Tool Number Nine.”
“Sometimes He praises me for my great sacrifice; other times, He condemns me as a phantom of the Warp.”
“Several times, He even accused me of inciting the rebellion—I suspect He can now perceive more than one timeline.”
The winged figure in the white light sighed:
“And I’m not as free as you imagine. My will’s projection is limited.”
“Without the Blood Angels as relays, I can barely manifest in the starfields near Baal.”
“Entities within the Warp deliberately sever my connection to Him.”
“I can barely communicate with the Emperor by tossing psychic bottles into the Warp… and nearly all of mine go unanswered.”
The angel and the Emperor communicate only by floating bottles.
If this creature before him truly was the Archangel, and he spoke truly, then things were indeed dire.
“So the Emperor has dementia?” Zhou Yun blinked and asked.
“Who knows what’s wrong with my old man? You know… our family’s been lacking a decent psychologist for ten thousand years.”
The winged figure in the white light’s tone was full of bitterness.
Zhou Yun nodded with pity.
If the winged figure before him truly was the Archangel,
then nearly everyone in his family—except a few—needed psychological help, including himself.
“In short, I don’t understand His state.”
The winged figure admitted frankly:
“I can’t tell whether this girl is truly His vessel.”
“So hurry to Baal and fix this—I’ll go to Terra and check on the Emperor’s condition.”
Zhou Yun chose to ignore the winged figure’s words entirely.
“Can you receive messages from the Emperor?” Zhou Yun asked Leina.
If the winged figure couldn’t, but this girl could, things would be interesting—
then Zhou Yun could at least confirm one of them was lying.
“. Occasionally.” Leina whispered.
Occasionally. So her communication with the Emperor wasn’t reliable either.
Zhou Yun rubbed his chin.
He decided to follow Leina’s line of thought for now:
“Has the Emperor given any instructions? Should I go unclog His golden toilet?”
“. Do you always speak so blasphemously?” Leina shrank back, frightened.
Her deer-like eyes held a trace of fear as she looked at Zhou Yun.
After a moment, she seemed to gather courage and said, “Can you take me to the Lower Nest?”
The Lower Nest again. Why does everyone want to go to the Lower Nest?
Zhou Yun frowned.
“Augustus Flax hired you to investigate the Worms of the Underworld in the Lower Nest.”
“Leina wants you to find the lost Warp engine in the Lower Nest.”
Leina counted on her fingers, whispering:
“I hope you’ll take me with you to the Lower Nest.”
This girl seemed to be using her precognition to its full extent—she even knew about the Viceroy and Leina hiring Zhou Yun.
“. If you go to the Lower Nest now, you can collect three salaries at once.”
Leina winked at Zhou Yun.
“If you take me to the Lower Nest, I’ll give you all the money I’ve stolen these past years.”
So that’s why you’ve been stealing with your hot-wire device—for this.
Zhou Yun looked at the girl before him, who wielded her precognition with flawless precision.
Go to the Lower Nest and collect three salaries.
Zhou Yun had already planned to go to the Lower Nest anyway—he was just waiting for Leina to extract more intel from the route files.
After all, the exact location of the Warp engine was still a mystery.
“I can take you to find that Warp engine.”
Leina looked at Zhou Yun with her moist, deer-like eyes.
“I can also help you locate the approximate whereabouts of the Gene-Thieves.”
So capable?
“.” Zhou Yun frowned. His internal Warp alarm was ringing.
Sensing that her words had triggered Zhou Yun’s suspicion,
Leina hurried to say, “He taught me one phrase—he said if I say it, you’ll take me.”
“What?” Zhou Yun raised an eyebrow.
Leina took a deep breath and spoke haltingly, yet clearly:
“Doraemon, please help Emperor Yebi.”
Zhou Yun blinked gently, because Leina had spoken in Chinese.
A bit stuck, next chapter in a few minutes.
