Chapter 680
Fabius’s steps were hurried, his iron boots clattering against the ground, interwoven with the hungry roars surrounding him.
The Hive Mind grew ever more urgent, ever more ravenous; it craved to feed, endless feeding.
Its claws relentlessly tore at the Gellar field’s bubble, its tentacles wrapped around the ship and dragged it deeper into the shadows, its mandibles gnawed at the fragile reality shielding the vessel, seeking to swallow all into its belly.
What an abominable entity—behind Fabius, the cocoon in the Warp trembled slightly, terrified of the Hive Mind’s presence.
It was because of this cocoon, because of the unborn Jifu , that Fabius faintly perceived what lay within the shadows.
It was a never-ending hunger swirling in the Warp, craving to devour everything in the universe; this craving even extended to itself—if it truly succeeded in consuming all, it would bite its own tail and devour itself.
It was an incomparably powerful entity; even as Fabius had become the so-called Jifu , he could not match it, nor could even the Primarchs hope to defeat this monster.
But the Gellar field should still hold for a little longer.
BOOM!!!!
In the instant Fabius conceived this thought, the Gellar field burst like a punctured balloon; hundreds of strange claws, fangs, mandibles, and tentacles shot from the shadows and plunged into the ship beneath Fabius’s feet, effortlessly tearing through its armor and piercing deep inside.
The Gellar field has been breached?
So soon?
How?
No—
The Gellar field was shut down.
Fabius froze for a moment, his expression darkening.
Melusine. Daughter.
The surgeon on his back erupted open, its mechanical blades striking one of the shadowy tentacles that had pierced the ship, barely deflecting it and carving a path for Fabius.
Fabius Bael pushed through the tentacles, claws, and fangs, finally reaching the chamber housing the Gellar field generator.
He burst through the door.
Yet the chamber housing the Gellar engine was unexpectedly silent.
No signs of struggle, no Warp corruption—only the deactivated Gellar field generator, and a hand gently resting upon it.
“Melusine?” Fabius stared at Melusine’s back and whispered.
Melusine turned her head slightly toward Fabius Bael, a faint smile on her lips: “I’m here, Father.”
“No, you’re not Melusine.” Fabius was not so blind as to miss this now; his face darkened: “When did you replace Melusine? And what are you truly?”
“From the beginning—the one who arrived on Murder Star was me.” Melusine clasped her hands behind her back, smiling sweetly as she stepped closer to Fabius.
“You are a truly admirable father. Had the Emperor of Mankind possessed your parenting skill, treated his children with your sincerity, perhaps all in the galaxy would be different.”
“What are you?” Fabius’s voice grew urgent, his fury unmistakable: “Where is my Melusine?”
“.Hee!”
Azure flames instantly engulfed Melusine’s entire body; a sly laugh emerged from within, and countless birds with mocking expressions flickered in and out—nine thousand nine hundred and ninety distinct voices simultaneously jeered at Fabius Bael.
