Chapter 74: End and Death?

~6 min read 1,076 words

In the depths of the crypt, the Gene Thief Chieftain let out a deafening roar,

a sound filled with both fury and terror,

through the Bishop’s eyes, it had seen the figure hidden within Zhou Yun’s consciousness,

that white, winged figure, the one the Leviathan’s Song coveted,

merely glancing at that figure made the Gene Thief Chieftain feel its soul beginning to burn.

The Gene Thief Chieftain immediately severed the psychic link between the Bishop and the entire hive.

Then it looked down at the biomatter pool, bubbling incessantly,

a stench of rotting amino acids and fat rising from its surface,

nearly all the humans in the crypt had been cast into the pool, becoming nourishment for its creatures,

earlier, it had detected traces of that Archangel’s activity in a ruined district,

to oppose that Archangel, the Leviathan Hive Fleet had sent this beast’s genetic code.

The Gene Thief Chieftain rose from the pipe, spreading its four claws,

the biomatter pool immediately erupted with more fine bubbles, the thick, dark yellow liquid slowly rising into a small mound,

viscous fluid dripped steadily from the beast’s body, flickering arcs of howling electricity dancing along its four extended blades,

the creature’s massive, armored body revealed itself within the crypt, its head raised as it roared,

a devilish shriek echoing throughout the crypt.

“No!!!!”

The Gene Thief Bishop let out a piercing wail,

she felt the link to the hive abruptly severed, her consciousness suddenly isolated,

worse still, the memories warped by cognitive distortion filters began to resurface,

forcing the Gene Thief Bishop to realize the sheer blasphemy she had committed,

her eyes widened, but what streamed down were not tears—they were golden flames,

her mouth opened, but what emerged were not screams—only searing white smoke.

“Sorry. My mind is full.”

Zhou Yun swung his fist at her head, burning chunks of flesh spraying in all directions.

Eight Gene Thief Guards stared in stunned silence at the scene,

in an instant, three of them also widened their eyes, their bodies igniting.

Golden flames consumed them completely in the blink of an eye.

“The Gene Thief Chieftain severed the Bishop’s psychic link to the hive.”

The voice of the winged figure in the white light spoke:

“I only managed to burn a small portion of the Gene Thieves.”

“You did well. You did exceedingly well!”

Zhou Yun stepped back slightly, letting Malchit’s Plague Zombies overwhelm the last five Gene Thief Guards.

He himself gently pressed his hand to his head,

just now, the winged figure in the white light had used Zhou Yun’s will as a conduit to project its psychic energy into the Gene Thief Bishop’s body,

then used the Bishop to release psychic energy toward more Gene Thieves,

had the Gene Thief Chieftain underground not severed the Bishop’s link to the entire hive in time, half the Gene Thieves would have begun to burn.

At the moment the Gene Thieves were burned to death by the winged figure in the white light,

Zhou Yun clearly felt a force surge into his body from the Warp,

perhaps because the deaths of these Gene Thieves were all counted as his own, this blessing was far stronger,

Zhou Yun felt his reflexes multiply several times, his stamina noticeably replenished.

He also glimpsed a vision,

he saw a gray-white mysterious church, its ceiling hung with corpses strung up by hooks,

their necks slit, blood dripping like rain, pooling into rivers,

between the crimson drops, devout female worshippers lined up, walking forward one by one,

on either side of the line stood masked priests holding instruments of torture,

they swung their blades, slicing open the worshippers’ throats,

as the worshippers advanced and died, their corpses piled into a small mountain within the church,

Zhou Yun’s gaze followed the mountain,

deep within the church, the bone statue seated upon the Throne gazed down upon him.

“Only sacrifice death.”

“Only worship the Death God.”

The two female priests standing beside the line whispered in Zhou Yun’s ears.

Blood spread beneath Zhou Yun’s feet,

the blood reflected the image of the Soul Sea—he saw his own reflection within the Warp again,

but this time, the blue, round figure was far clearer.

“This blessing stimulates you, deepening your awareness of your Warp essence.”

The winged figure in the white light said hesitantly.

“Are you sure this isn’t the Blood God’s blessing?” Zhou Yun shook his head, pulling his mind away from the grotesque, bloody scene.

Blood—blood filling nearly the entire church—and the mountain of corpses.

This blasphemous spectacle screamed of Khorne, the Blood God,

but Zhou Yun had never provoked anything tied to the Blood God?

And those two female worshippers’ whispered words: Death and the Death God,

Khorne is the God of Murder, not the God of Death.

Zhou Yun knew who the Eldar Death God was,

but the Eldar Death God had not yet been born, and could not possibly grant a blessing to a human like Zhou Yun,

and within the Warp, who else could be called the Death God?

“Not Khorne. I’d know if it were Khorne’s blessing.”

The winged figure in the white light said with uncertainty:

“The Death God… the human Death God… hard to say.”

“Tch.” Zhou Yun recalled the blasphemous scene he had just witnessed,

if this truly had been the Emperor’s blessing,

then the Emperor being called the Fifth Chaos God of the Warp was entirely deserved.

“Leyn Rus.”

Malchit’s voice rang out—his Plague Zombies had devoured the last few Gene Thief Guards.

“Found the crypt’s entrance. Right here.”

Malchit stared at the deep staircase before him,

it appeared to be constructed directly from components of the colony ship, likely leading to the Warp Engine’s location.

The Gene Thief Chieftain and that terrifying Tyranid beast awaited him below.

“I’m coming.” Zhou Yun’s voice came from behind Malchit,

Malchit turned his head,

his gaze fell upon Zhou Yun’s eyes—and his hair stood on end.

“The Cursed One!”

“Death! End and Death!”

“Worshipper of Death!”

The angels’ terrified cries echoed in Malchit’s mind,

in Malchit’s eyes, Zhou Yun seemed shrouded in a pale, deathly aura,

a pure death—no rebirth, no slaughter, no joy, no change,

making Malchit feel as if he had encountered his natural predator, his body trembling uncontrollably.

“What’s wrong?” Zhou Yun blinked, gazing at Malchit with innocent curiosity.
