Chapter 100: Black Legion
Zhou Yun froze in place, but after a few seconds of observation, he discovered that this church had become quite different from before.
The overall building had become more slender and elegant, with patterns of the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang, skulls, angels, and roses carved on the walls, while the bricks and stones that made up all this were a strange interweaving of scarlet and bone-white, giving the entire church a weird beauty.
This church was clearly no longer the one Zhou Yun had once seen.
Instead, it was rebuilt at the original address after being demolished.
"This church was rebuilt by our Order of Our Martyred Lady."
Battle Sister Acelade introduced to Zhou Yun.
"This time we removed all possible corruption and mixed the scarlet hot soil from Baal and the ashes of the departed sisters into every brick and stone; now this is a place completely belonging to the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang, and also our forward outpost for resisting the enemies of humanity."
Saying this, Battle Sister Acelade pushed open the heavy door of the church, signaling Zhou Yun and Letna to enter.
The interior of the church was dark and gloomy, the scent of incense permeated it, and the holy image of the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang stood among the incense, overlooking this hall that didn't look like a holy place at all.
Deliberately controlled lighting equipment shrouded the entire hall in thin gloom, countless metal cables occupied the ground, connecting countless screens, control consoles, meters, servitors, and communication equipment of different sizes, and busy crowds shuttled between these instruments, like schools of fish swimming in a mechanical ocean.
A faint scent permeated the tip of Zhou Yun's nose; it was the smell of adrenaline secreted by people with tight nerves and the metallic stench emitted by machines, mixed with some kind of machine oil...
Zhou Yun's gaze passed through a few veterans discussing by the map and a group of Ratlings trying to steal the veterans' wine flasks, looking at the two men in the center of the church hall.
One of them was General Droste, with a head of white hair clinging to his scalp, one eye being an electronic eye, and the other carrying the pale purple pupils characteristic of Cadians.
And another one... draped in a scarlet robe with a gear mark, his body under the robe was almost entirely occupied by machinery,
that was a Tech-Priest accompanying the army, who was arguing fiercely with General Droste.
"Commander Droste, allow me to repeat to you again."
"The shadow of the hive fleet is approaching; the machine spirits can perceive danger more keenly than humans, and they are unwilling to operate normally."
This Tech-Priest, who was so robust that he looked more like an Astartes, emphasized:
"I need more time to rebuild communication and exchange between the systems."
"But it is absolutely impossible now; I need to appease these machine spirits, they are greatly displeased today—hmm?"
This Tech-Priest suddenly froze, looking strangely at the data flashing on the screen.
He couldn't help but place his hand on the communication machine in front of him, trying to feel the machine spirit within it.
General Droste's gaze was also attracted by Zhou Yun and Letna, who pushed the door and entered.
"Priest Shaholik, I will talk to you about communication later."
General Droste looked at Zhou Yun and Letna with that purple eye:
"I have more important things to talk about."
Saying this, General Droste stepped forward, reached out to move three chairs from the side, and signaled Zhou Yun and Letna to sit down.
After sitting down, Zhou Yun looked at this old general from Cadia with keen interest.
This commander had commanded wars for more than half a century, and the Cadian troops under his command also won the alias: Droste's Urban Elite.
The origin of this title is because General Droste is quite good at fighting in the complex streets of the hive city.
Fudia City was the battlefield he chose.
Zhou Yun looked at this commander with keen interest.
"Seeing the Governor of the under-hive makes me feel a lot better."
General Droste glanced at Letna and then landed his gaze on Zhou Yun, saying with a relaxed tone:
"The Governor of the top-hive is unwilling to see me, using a servitor to fool me for a long time."
"I guess he didn't give the PDF to you either." Zhou Yun's mouth curled into an arc and said.
"Of course not, he took that group of PDF and hid in an underground palace somewhere." General Droste nodded helplessly:
"When I asked him to cooperate with the troops, he actually recommended me to find you."
"Even so, he still intended to use various small linguistic tricks, constantly hinting that you are a dangerous heretic, a cultist, and an enemy of humanity, just disguised very well."
"And that he, for the sake of the Empire, had to report you, this former partner."
Speaking of this, General Droste paused.
This commander swept his gaze over Letna and then landed on Zhou Yun:
"But it seems what he said has some truth... An illegal psyker? Looks like she's not weak."
Letna was nervous, hurriedly tightening her tongue and saying: "I haven't fallen into Chaos, everything I did was for the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang—"
"Letna." Before Letna could finish, Zhou Yun interrupted her.
Zhou Yun glanced at General Droste in front of him: "He is a Cadian; he knows how to judge whether you have been corrupted by Chaos."
"Cadian, what a 'Cadian knows how to judge whether you have been corrupted by Chaos'."

Droste couldn't help but laugh out loud. He took out an lho cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and curled his lips:
"When I was six years old, my father and his comrades worked with an Inquisitor to successfully complete the last mission, and thus happened to get a half-day vacation."
"He and his comrades decided to celebrate my birthday. My father asked me what my wish was?"
General Droste smiled:
"What dream can a Cadian child have? Of course, it's to strike at the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang's enemies earlier."
"The Hua Hua Hua Di Huang fulfilled my wish. A Black Legion warrior—perhaps his teleportation had a problem—got stuck in the wall of my kitchen."
"My father and his comrades raised their weapons, and the neighbors nearby also joined the battle; support didn't arrive in time."
Listening to General Droste's words, Letna felt a slight tightness in her heart and whispered: "I feel sorry for your father's encounter..."
General Droste was stunned when he heard this, and cast a strange look at Letna: "No, I might have forgotten to say... my father and his comrades were all Kasrkin."
"Their last mission was to work with an Inquisitor to banish a Greater Daemon of Chaos."
"Yes, as you guessed, before support arrived, that Black Legion soldier had already been executed by my father and the neighbors."
"The only seriously injured person in the battle was me; I was stabbed in one eye by the rubble kicked up when the Black Legion warrior fell."
General Droste rubbed his mechanical eye and said:
"And I fired six shots at that Black Legion soldier, only hitting five."
"So the birthday party was canceled, and my father gave me a good beating."
Letna listened to this story full of complaints with a twitching mouth.
For some reason, she felt that in General Drost's stories, the Greater Daemons of Chaos and the legendary Black Legion seemed like nothing more than common cannon fodder.
Is the battle situation in Cadia so intense?
"In short, that Governor Augustus is probably scared out of his wits."
General Droste sighed:
"Two loyal subjects of the Empire, Augustus Flax actually tried to teach a Cadian how to judge Chaos corruption."
