Chapter 165: Immortals Stand in Rows Like Hemp

~10 min read 2,000 words

"Your old self should believe it too; Saint Doraemon is incredibly effective!" Lag said earnestly, looking at Zhou Yun.

Zhou Yun's corner of the mouth twitched uncontrollably.

Didn't he himself know whether it was effective or not? Where did he get the power to make one birth produce eight children?

Noticing Zhou Yun's expression, Lag hurriedly said:

"Really, Brother Zhou Yun, as long as you pray to Saint Doraemon, the operating efficiency of many machines will increase exponentially, and even broken machines will temporarily resume operation; a six-round pistol can fire seven rounds; Saint Doraemon truly possesses divinity!"

"Shut up; whether it is divine or not, I have my own judgment!"

Zhou Yun waved his hand to interrupt Lag's preaching; hearing these words from Lag, goosebumps rose all over his body.

For a moment, he actually felt some empathy for the Emperor; no wonder he was so stubborn back then, refusing to admit he was a god no matter what.

But the Emperor truly was a god, while Zhou Yun felt he was not.

How could a human from the twenty-first century be the god of the forty-first millennium?

Look at those gods of 40k: paranoid schizophrenics, supernatural trash and toilets, hyper-masculine hyperthyroid sociopathic madmen, drug-addicted sex addicts, high-level paralyzed failed fathers, gluttonous alien versions of Guilliman, two hyperactive mushrooms, those beaten to a pulp by medieval knights, galactic-level autistic patients, bean-sprout versions of hyper-masculine hyperthyroid sociopathic madmen, the toilet of the supernatural toilet, dead otaku clowns, multi-species stitched-up weaklings.

Truly, immortals stand in rows like hemp.

To be listed alongside them, Zhou Yun would rather climb to the top of the Terra Imperial Palace and jump to solve a thousand sorrows.

Zhou Yun took a deep breath and looked at Lag, saying: "Talk about your own matters."

"Brother Zhou Yun, do you remember that pot of Aksima wine?"

Lag fell silent for a moment, a bitter smile appearing on his wrinkled face:

"That wine was truly damn terrible; it was the worst wine I have ever drunk in my life."

"About thirty or forty years ago, back when I was just a greenhorn who had just joined the gang, the old brother responsible for mentoring me had a lifelong wish: to take a sip of Aksima wine."

"He told me every day how delicious Aksima was, how soft, silky, and smooth it was on the tongue, how sweet and fragrant, haha; actually, he had never drunk it either; it was all hearsay."

"But he described it so well that I was infected by him and also wanted to take a sip of Aksima."

"Later, he fought desperately to carve out a new territory for the gang, used his rewards and saved money to have someone buy a pot of Aksima in the Upper Hive, but before he could even drink it, he was avenged and shot to death by a hail of bullets, and that pot of Aksima was smashed to pieces."

Lag scratched his old face, as if feeling embarrassed about recounting past events:

"Watching his body riddled with bullets, watching that pot of dried-up wine, I felt fear; I was afraid that by the time I died, I wouldn't even get to drink a pot of Aksima."

"So I fought for my life, using all my wits, thinking only of surviving; I absolutely had to live to take a sip of Aksima."

"Then you let me drink it, and I discovered that after spending my whole life doing so many despicable things, what I ended up drinking was such terrible stuff."

Lag couldn't help but thump his chest and pant heavily twice:

"I feel terrible; I have never felt this terrible in my life; I feel like my whole body has collapsed; I quickly fell ill and was almost dead while on the ship."

Zhou Yun looked at Lag's face; there were indeed traces of illness left on his face.

"When I told this to Boss Xiang Leina, she said this was the absurdity of life; all worldly pursuits could become meaningless, and only faith in the Emperor could exist eternally."

"But I am so old now; even if I believe in the Emperor, the Emperor surely won't let my soul return to the Golden Wang Zuo."

"And people like Boss Xiang Leina, like you, Brother Zhou Yun, you have ability and skills; you can do so many things for the Emperor; except for surviving, I can do nothing."

"But just at that moment, Big Sister Dixie appeared with faith in Saint Doraemon; I was almost dying then, so I didn't care about the Bai Si Sect or anything; I converted to Saint Doraemon like grabbing a lifeline, and then, then I actually got better."

Lag's face showed piety as he clasped his hands into a circle and placed them on his chest:

"At that moment, I finally understood that Saint Doraemon possesses true divinity; I recalled the events that happened in Asford and discovered that behind these events there was an invisible round hand; that must be Saint Doraemon protecting us!"

Hearing this sentence, Zhou Yun's face suddenly twisted; he suddenly understood what was going on.

Because of the psychological suggestion applied by Xiang Leina, Lag could not, under any circumstances, connect Ryan Ruse, Doraemon, and these aliases Zhou Yun had used with Zhou Yun himself.

This led to some things being inexplicable in Lag's mind; Lag naturally took this as the manipulation of Saint Doraemon's invisible round hand.

Plus, his illness had inexplicably healed, which made his faith extremely firm, because he felt from the bottom of his heart that Saint Doraemon was divine.

"And then?" Zhou Yun raised his eyebrows and asked, "And how did you end up in this situation?"

"I didn't expect it either," Lag said with a bitter face, "This was truly not intentional on my part."

"Three months ago, after arriving on Baal, I sensed something was wrong; the doctrines of Big Sister Dixie and the others were too damn scary; they were always clamoring to die."

"To be honest, I am not afraid of death now; actually, everyone luckily survived the insect sea of Asford; living one more day is a bonus; no one fears death, but everyone fears dying meaninglessly, without even the chance for their soul to return to the Golden Wang Zuo."

"Many people began to doubt: according to Big Sister Dixie and their methods, can one really have their soul return to the Golden Wang Zuo? Everyone would rather regroup and fight the insect swarm again, to avenge the blood feud to some extent."

Hearing this, Zhou Yun nodded lightly; Dixie and their dogmas were indeed a bit abstract and outrageous; most people surely couldn't stand it.

Lag continued, "So Old One-Eye stood up; he gathered members of the old Ark Gang, including me, to establish a new sect, separating from Big Sister Dixie and the others."

"I don't even believe it myself; among the brothers of the Ark Gang back then, I actually had some prestige."

"Brother Zhou Yun, do you remember when Boss Xiang Leina asked me to teach the brothers how to survive? Many brothers of the Ark Gang thought I taught well, saying that their survival from the insect swarm was partly due to my contribution."

"Plus, back then everyone had just arrived on Baal; the most important thing was survival, and I only knew how to survive; Old One-Eye trusted me, and through this and that, I ended up in this position."

Lag looked at Zhou Yun, fell silent for a moment, then said:

"Old Lag is getting old and won't live much longer; in this final little bit of time, I want to do something for the Emperor, for Saint Doraemon."

"But Brother Zhou Yun, I know I have no ability; nowadays, the people of Asford need you more."

"On the main planet of Baal, we discovered that bunch of bastards, the Tyranids; we fought them, many died, but by the time the Angels arrived, the Tyranids had retreated deep into the desert and vanished without a trace."

"We need you to..."

"I have more important matters, Lag," Zhou Yun said softly.

He must go to Angel Fortress, find the remains of Sanguinius, and use that ridiculously expensive item to resurrect him.

Lag was stunned for a moment, then nodded heavily.

"I understand; I still remember Brother Zhou Yun saying back in Asford that in this galaxy, everyone has their own responsibility."

"Just as Boss Xiang Leina must go to Cadia, you surely have your own matters to attend to."

"Is there anything Old Lag can help with? The guy is doing well now and can really help you out," Lag grinned.

"I need a map, precisely marking the location of the Bal Main Star and the Angel Fortress on the Bal Main Star." Zhou Yun nodded slightly and said, not forgetting his purpose.

Lag's ugly face twitched; he staggered to his feet and walked slowly toward the cabinet behind him.

Zhou Yun observed Lag's steps and found that Lag walked with a slight difficulty,

as if old age had finally caught up with this old Asford fellow.

Lag took a roll of parchment from the cabinet and handed it to Zhou Yun.

"There is no Angel Fortress; we have only been here on the Bal Main Star for too short a time, and the Angel Fortress is the most important place on the entire Bal. How could we get a map of that place?"

Lag shook his head and said,

Zhou Yun unfolded the parchment map, which precisely marked the relative positions of the three Bal stars, as well as the locations of Old One-Eye and Dichi's strongholds on the Bal Main Star.

This map was precise enough for the Anywhere Door to use.

"Old One-Eye drew it; after all, he was once one of the best PDFs." Lag said to Zhou Yun.

Zhou Yun nodded lightly, then reached into his four-dimensional pocket and pulled out the Anywhere Door,

and Lag's gaze immediately became dull and lifeless.

Seeing the Anywhere Door would make one guess Zhou Yun was Doraemon; knowing Zhou Yun was Doraemon would reveal Zhou Yun was Ryan Ruse,

and the psychological suggestion set by Xiang Xiang Leina took effect again, plunging Lag's mind into stupor.

Zhou Yun couldn't help but twitch the corner of his eye at this scene, but Xiang Xiang Leina was now far away in Cadia, who knows if she was already in the trenches by now; hoping she would unbind Lag was hopeless,

and Zhou Yun himself did not understand psychic powers well, and the winged figure in Bai Guang could no longer offer him advice.

"You just have to make do like this for now." Zhou Yun helplessly shrugged his shoulders and said to the stupefied Lag.

Then he pushed open the Anywhere Door, stepped inside, and vanished.

Lag's gaze regained its light after Zhou Yun left; he stared blankly at the empty room and couldn't help but scratch his head.

"Where did he go? How did Brother Zhou Yun suddenly disappear?"

Early morning today, GW new products: 40K updated Krieg and Craftworld Eldar. Krieg is a big box; the miniatures are very cool, with horses. The Eldar updated a huge batch; the models look good, but the most interesting thing is that the new Eldar Codex cover shows a Grot stepping on the Emperor's Son (the Emperor's Son is furious), with the Webway Gate in the background; it feels like it might connect to Wa Banxian's plot.

Then I glanced at AoS and saw an update for Goblins; looking at the miniatures, they are quite good too. I play AoS with miniatures, but I am not very familiar with the plot. I heard this group of Goblins thinks Sigmar is the incarnation of the legendary Glowing-Face Goblin, roughly similar to... I reckon the Hua Di Huang is the chosen of Gork and Mork?
