Chapter 17: First, I have no secrets

~7 min read 1,261 words

"Found the information you wanted?"

Zhou Yun scrutinized Margit and Morgott as he spoke; they were clutching a piece of parchment and a data slate in their hands.

Margit nodded, seemingly scrutinizing Zhou Yun in return.

Standing beside him, Morgott voiced the doubt in their hearts: "What about the weapons you wanted?"

Far from having a warehouse full of weapons, one couldn't even find a single automatic pistol on Zhou Yun.

"I've already moved them all away," Zhou Yun said with a smile at the corners of his mouth.

His haul from the PDF warehouse could be described as bountiful.

The star system where Ashford was located was known as the "Shield of the Underworld."

This system existed specifically as a shield to protect the Baal system, the home world of the Blood Angels.

Over the long ages, the Shield of the Underworld had intercepted Aeldari, Chaos rebels, and waves of Orks.

The PDF here had long since been tempered into a formidable fighting force, and their equipment was a cut above the average PDF.

From the warehouse, Zhou Yun had not only discovered a full five hundred Agrippina-pattern Mark III autoguns, but also two hundred M40 Armageddon-pattern and U90 assault cannons.

There were even fifty Cadian Shock Trooper-standard Kantrael-pattern M36 lasguns.

This made Zhou Yun click his tongue slightly; the Cadian Shock Troopers were among the top tier of the Astra Militarum, not something a mere PDF could even compare to.

That an Ashford PDF outpost actually had fifty of their standard-issue lasguns made it hard for Zhou Yun to suppress his smile.

Morgott was stunned for a moment by the smile Zhou Yun couldn't suppress; he hurried toward the PDF warehouse, returning a moment later in shock.

"Empty! The PDF warehouse is empty?!"

Morgott took a deep breath and couldn't help but ask:

"Did you really move an entire warehouse of weapons? Where did you put them?"

Then he shook his head and said to himself, "Forget it, I won't ask about your affairs anymore."

Zhou Yun gave Morgott a strange look.

How did he get the feeling that this kid seemed to have misunderstood something?

"I don't have many secrets," Zhou Yun said, scratching his head.

"Neither does the First Legion," the winged figure in the white light said faintly.

Morgott didn't pick up on Zhou Yun's remark; he handed the data slate in his hand to Zhou Yun.

"This contains the map of the Old Eighth District, just as I promised you."

Zhou Yun took the map from Morgott's hand and saw every street of the Old Eighth District clearly displayed on it.

He easily found the location of the Corpse Guild.

According to the intelligence given by Old One-Eye, that notebook belonging to Ignace Karkasy should be within the Corpse Guild.

A satisfied smile curled the corners of Zhou Yun's mouth.

Entering the Old Eighth District this time was the right choice; the harvest was full.

He used the Anywhere Ring to open a tunnel leading to the rear of the PDF garrison.

That was the urban area of the Old Eighth District, which had previously been inaccessible to both scavengers and gang members due to the mountain of collapsed rubble.

The streets in this part of the city were much more spacious than in the Underhive, with roads wide enough for three or four vehicles to drive side-by-side.

Along the streets were neatly arranged high-rise buildings, extending into the distance and submerged in darkness.

The entire city was silent and lightless, which was somewhat chilling.

Margit nodded slightly at Zhou Yun, turned, and led Morgott toward the dark streets, their figures disappearing into the distance.

Watching the two figures disappear, Zhou Yun couldn't help but shake his head.

No matter what they wanted to do, the probability of success was low.

Even without Zhou Yun, they would eventually have found a way to enter the PDF garrison, find the information they wanted, and get the things they were looking for.

But in Zhou Yun's memory, Ashford never experienced a large-scale Chaos invasion until its destruction.

In other words, no matter what plans Morgott and Margit had, they would likely end in failure.

Even if they succeeded...

Zhou Yun thought about the near future.

The Blood Angels, Sisters of Battle, Astra Militarum, Necrons, and Tyranid Hive Fleet would engage in a massive brawl in the Underworld system.

It seemed one more Chaos faction wouldn't make much difference; those two scrub cultists, Morgott and Margit, couldn't summon many Nurgle legions anyway.

Moreover, in the eyes of the Great Devourer, Chaos was inedible waste, a predator coming to compete for food.

To Chaos, the Great Devourer was much the same: soulless things, beasts competing for food.

If the two met, they would likely fight.

It wasn't impossible that Chaos would end up defending the realm while the Tyranids died for the state.

"Forget it," Zhou Yun shook his head; this had nothing to do with him anymore.

He likely wouldn't have any more dealings with those two cultists.

Zhou Yun collected his thoughts and looked at the large number of firearms and weapons in his Fourth-Dimensional Pocket.

【Item Name: Agrippina-pattern Mark III Infantry Autogun】

【Origin: Cadian Sector - Agrippina System - Agrippina】

【Description: A common infantry autogun produced in Agrippina, featuring only the most basic iron sights; it has significant recoil and weight.】

"Evaluation: The weight of an infantry autogun is reassuring."

【Production Date: 765. M41】

【Status: PDF-used, 90% new】

【Value: 2,500 credits】

【Item Name: M40 Armageddon-pattern Autogun】

【Origin: Armageddon System - Armageddon】

【Description: A common infantry autogun produced in Armageddon; it has a loud report, is simple yet lethal, and deals higher damage to Orks.】

"Evaluation: Soldiers following the legendary Commissar Yarrick used this weapon; the Orks reckon this infantry autogun is quite punchy."

【Production Date: 865. M41】

【Status: PDF-used, 90% new】

【Value: 3,000 credits】

"Name: U90 Assault Cannon."

"Price: 3,000 credits."

"Name: Kantrael-pattern M36 Lasgun."

"Price: 5,000 credits."

Zhou Yun did some quick mental math; excluding the two hundred Agrippina Mark III infantry autoguns sold to the Lage Gang, the remaining weapons could fetch a full 1.6 million credits in the Fourth-Dimensional Pocket.

A massive fortune!

Zhou Yun couldn't help but lick his lips; if he could loot seven or eight more PDF outposts, he would have enough for the Anywhere Door.

But he quickly dismissed the thought.

It wasn't that he was afraid; after all, with the 1.6 million credits to exchange for new items, plus the Body Clay to hide his identity and the Superpower Hat to teleport away, stealing equipment from a PDF garrison was still feasible.

It was mainly because the current Viceroy, Augustus "Vannier Reincarnated" Flax, didn't pay much attention to the PDF, and it was hard to say how much good equipment the PDF still had; the risk and reward were simply not proportional.

Most importantly, even if Augustus Flax was slacking off, if Zhou Yun raided seven or eight PDF outposts at once, he would definitely be targeted.

In Zhou Yun's memory, that guy had secretly hoarded a squad of psyker private soldiers from somewhere.

Not just one psyker, but an entire organized psyker private army; the combat power of a group of psykers was far stronger than the PDF.

Zhou Yun also deeply suspected that the way the Viceroy hoarded psyker private soldiers wasn't exactly loyal.

"So, what is your next plan?" the winged figure in the white light said.

"Go to the Corpse Guild first and find the notebook Old One-Eye wants."
