Chapter 189

~9 min read 1,601 words

"We originally had three companies."

Finney, in the sand pit, lowered his head slightly and said in a low voice:

"Chapter Master Malta and Chapter Master Danwen held the same view as I did; we began the operation together, left our home world, and embarked on the journey to Baal."

"But we experienced many dangers on the way; the Warp was strange and chaotic, and two of our three Librarians fell into madness."

"And in the material universe, every star system we passed through had been infected by the Tyranid swarm. As you can see, we fought during the journey."

"Finally, in the Aldin system, we were attacked by the Shadow in the Warp and had to enter the material universe. The swarm seemed to know we would come; they were waiting for us there."

"Chapter Master Malta and Chapter Master Danwen died in battle; we lost two strike cruisers and most of our gene-seed, and two-thirds of the warriors fell."

"Those warriors who were more deeply affected by the Ritual of Repentance were the first to sacrifice themselves; the warriors we tried our best to protect were those who had not received the Ritual of Repentance or were less affected."

Finney lowered his head. There was a silence in the room, then whispers arose.

Sanguinius's scions discussed Finney's affairs in low voices, and from time to time, they cast their gazes upon Zhou Yun.

They were clearly puzzled as to why an Ultramarine knew so much, and it even involved many secrets that Sanguinius's scions had to guard strictly.

"Because I am an Ultramarine."

Zhou Yun shrugged and said in a flat tone:

"We Ultramarines just know everything, like the little secrets of the Dark Angels, the little secrets of the Space Wolves, the little secrets of the Raven Guard... We Ultramarines know all of these."

"As for the Blood Angels' Red Thirst, Black Rage, the Silent King, the Tower of the Lost, and the Death Company, we know those too."

"But everyone rest assured, we Ultramarines will definitely help everyone keep their secrets safe."

The whispers in the air vanished instantly. The Sanguinius's scions present all looked at Zhou Yun in unison; in an instant, the air became somewhat solidified.

Even the winged figure in the white light at the corner of Zhou Yun's eye couldn't help but twitch.

Only Dante himself seemed unmoved, as if it were not surprising that the blue-armored warrior knew the secrets of Sanguinius's scions.

Sanguinius's scions could only temporarily suppress their doubts in their hearts.

The mouth beneath Dante's mask moved slightly; the look he gave Zhou Yun also became slightly different.

He was not surprised that Zhou Yun actually knew the secrets of the Blood Angels, but surprised that this Warp entity could actually see the actions of the Crimson Angels through the Shadow in the Warp.

What Dante cared about even more was a sentence Zhou Yun said earlier—as long as they were still Sanguinius's scions and were willing to bet with holy relics, he was willing to accept the Crimson Angels' challenge. Was he implying that in the eyes of the Archangel, the Crimson Angels were still Sanguinius's scions?

Or rather, at least Finney and the warriors Finney brought were.

Dante was silent for a moment and revealed a rare hesitation: "I am sorry for your sacrifice... but is your desire for reconciliation sincere?"

"Of course." Finney lowered his head: "We are sorry we cannot bring more brothers to help you, my lord."

"But we accept all the rulings you make. If you want to kill us, we will not resist."

Finney waited for Dante to make a ruling, and all the Sanguinius's scions present also waited for this moment.

Dante slowly raised his head. The golden mask engraved with Sanguinius's face swept over Finney; the expression of anger upon it seemed as if it were judging his own scions.

"Rise, my blood kin brothers!"

Dante raised his voice and said.

Those Crimson Angels who had been kneeling on the ground stood up.

"I accept your aid; I welcome you to fight alongside me."

"Now follow me and be seated; enjoy the feast. Before the real battle comes, you should get some rest."

"My lord?" Sanguinary Priest Corbulo revealed some hesitation.

Dante, however, shook his head: "If it were Mo Er himself before me, all I could give him would be death."

"But these warriors are penitents; they are true Sanguinius's scions—I accept them!"

The Lictor's form swayed instantly; its invisibility was interrupted by Zhou Yun.

A trace of comfort flashed across Finney's face, and he was lifted out of the sand pit.

In the center of the Well of Angels, only Zhou Yun remained. Dante stepped into the sand pit, and Zhou Yun looked at him: "Are you also going to challenge me? Commander Dante?"

"I only brought thanks." Dante nodded slightly and said: "I originally intended to use combat to temporarily suppress the differences, but it seems you did better."

"My blood kin brothers are this united for the first time in ten thousand years... They seem to have realized the commonalities between them, recognized that they have the same honor among themselves, and understood that the reputation of blood kin is their own reputation."

As he spoke, Dante glanced at the Crimson Angels, then looked at the warriors of the various Chapters gathered together.

Some of these warriors were still discussing how to defeat Zhou Yun, while others were chatting about the different cultures between the Chapters.

"It was just a coincidence." A smile flashed across the corner of Zhou Yun's mouth.

He was actually just here to scam some holy relics from the various Chapters.

On one hand, it was to scrape together more money to exchange for the items he needed; on the other hand, a new item Zhou Yun had his eye on required a large amount of mechanical weaponry.

"You are trying to make me believe that my whole life has been in the arrangements of you and the Archangel, but now you want me to believe that everything that just happened was a coincidence?"

Dante shook his head. In his view, Zhou Yun being able to accurately state the information about the Crimson Angels clearly meant he had been paying attention to the Crimson Angels for a long time.

Saying it now was not only to make Dante accept Finney but also to make Sanguinius's scions punish those stubborn Crimson Angels in the future... The blood of Sanguinius was ultimately not to be defiled.

Zhou Yun's mouth twitched; he could guess that Dante was clearly overthinking it.

But he still kept his expression unchanged and asked in return: "How have you considered it? The swarm is already very close."

The Aldin system, where the Crimson Angels were attacked, was not far from Baal; the swarm was already very close to Baal.

"... I might really have to agree to your proposal."

Dante said after a long silence, as if the events of today had further deepened Dante's trust in Zhou Yun:

"I trust you more, but as a Chapter Master, I have to make insurance."

"You can go anywhere you want, but you must take some more people with you."

Zhou Yun's eyebrows raised slightly.

This was clearly both surveillance and insurance, as well as support for Zhou Yun's actions.

Dante clearly wanted to send people he trusted more to follow Zhou Yun and act together.

After all, with only Zhou Yun and Mephiston, no one would truly feel at ease.

"... You wouldn't want to shove the Crimson Angels onto me, would you?"

Zhou Yun's tone became strange; he glanced at Finney on the high platform in the distance:

"I'm afraid they might not be able to hold back and eat me like chicken sauce..."

This group of Crimson Angels' Ritual of Repentance required consuming the blood of Sanguinius. Heaven knows if they had a dependency or addiction, and Zhou Yun also suspected that they might have been affected by the Warp to a certain degree.

Seeing the remains of Sanguinius, they might just pounce on them and polish them clean for Zhou Yun...

"... What chicken sauce?" Dante revealed a somewhat bewildered expression.

"No, nothing. Anyway, the Crimson Angels won't do." Zhou Yun shook his head and said.

Then Zhou Yun paused and said: "The Blood Knights won't do either!"

"... I will carefully consider the candidates." Dante nodded slightly and said.

Then Dante looked behind him; a considerable number of blood slaves had poured into the Well of Angels.

These attendants of the Blood Angels were busy in the Well of Angels, holding food, wine bottles, and tableware.

According to Dante's plan, after the gladiatorial combat, there would be a feast belonging to all of Sanguinius's scions.

In this feast, all blood kin brothers would drink wine mixed with a small amount of fresh blood and taste the food on Baal.

"Interested in attending our feast?" Dante looked at Zhou Yun and asked.

"The feast looks good, but unfortunately I don't drink blood, so I can't appreciate the Blood Angels' specialty wine."

Zhou Yun responded with a smile at the corner of his mouth.

Dante's body twitched without a trace.

My condition has been a bit poor these past two days; my schedule hasn't adjusted, it's miserable.

PS: The Necrons have been buffed; the Silent King has received an epic-level buff in the new codex, with all buffs stacked. Do you like my wholesale hit-roll, damage-roll, re-roll, +1 to wound, wall-piercing, D-1 damage, -1 damage, ignore-cover Silent King?
