Chapter 201: A Greater Daemon who wants to sing?
In the pipe woven from light,
The waves of the Warp set off rift winds, blowing on the rider's braids.
This rider was gazing at the Warp near Baal through the rift of the light pipe with those sharp, eagle-like eyes.
The three planets of Baal were reflected in the Warp, like a shadow like a sky full of insect tides wrapping the reflections of these three planets, making a pitch-black stain appear in the Warp.
But not all Warp power was isolated by the shadows. In the pitch-black shadows, several flickering lights could be faintly seen.
Scarlet raging fire was burning, stained with fresh blood, full of rage and roars. That was the figure of a Khorne Greater Daemon.
Pitch-black wings trembled in the void, colliding with more than ten points of light and the Khorne Greater Daemon. That was Mephiston, the Chief Librarian of the Blood Angels, and the Librarians.
More conspicuous than these two figures was a holy and noble white light. The white light seemed to be mixed with countless prayers.
These prayers gathered together, slowly outlining
The rider's gaze lingered for a moment on the winged figure within the white light, then lifted slightly.
Behind the winged figure in the white light stood a towering blue giant god, standing within the Warp. Its form was blurry and indistinct, with three distinct Warp realms intertwined and overlapping upon it.
The giant god slowly reached out a round hand toward the scorching flames that symbolized the Khorne Greater Daemon. The mighty power belonging to the rider's father erupted from that round hand; the Khorne Greater Daemon was almost unable to resist before being swallowed by the blue giant god's round hand.
The blood symbolizing Khorne was almost instantly submerged by the power of the blue figure, and a portion of the Blood God's realm was subsequently occupied by the blue giant god.
The flames symbolizing the Khorne Greater Daemon dissolved, reshaped, and were recreated within the blue figure's body. The original existence was completely destroyed, only to be reborn within the blue body.
The flames were slowly molded into a human shape, with a sturdy body and broad arms, yet it remained blurry and indistinct, as if an extremely long time remained before its true birth.
Just then, the rider suddenly raised his head; his hawk-like eyes reflected a strange scene.
A suffering mummified corpse hung upon a throne made of gold, its body trembling in agony as if composed of billions upon billions of people. Tears fell from its hollow eyes, and within the tears was reflected a Warp rift as hideous as an eye. Before the rift, a tiny planet was resisting the storms of primordial Chaos.
The mummified corpse's gaze seemed to be drawn as well, shifting slightly away from the planet before the rift for a moment, looking toward Baal just as the rider did.
The mummified corpse was silent for a moment, struggling in pain, whispering words the rider could not hear clearly. Then, with both resistance and longing, it tore a hideous piece of flesh from its own body. Pale deathly intent swirled upon it, as if this piece of flesh were built and nested from endless corpses.
The rider understood that the piece of flesh he saw was a part of the mummified corpse's own spirit and flesh, and also a part of the realm where the mummified corpse resided.
To sever one's own realm is almost unimaginable for the gods of the Warp; their instincts and inclinations would never lead to such behavior, yet the mummified corpse did it nonetheless.
Taking one look at that bloody piece of flesh, the rider felt horrified; even he could not bear such a massive piece of the mummified corpse's power.
The mummified corpse reached out a hand in the Warp, and that piece of flesh transformed into a pitch-black little sun burning with cold fire, streaking across the entire Warp, tearing through the shadow released by the Hive Mind, and plunging violently into the body of the blue giant god figure.
In an instant, the blue giant god's figure swayed, and the massive Warp power constituting its body almost instantly began to instinctively devour the piece of flesh from the mummified corpse.
Most of the flesh flowed into its body, while a small portion surged along its torso into the sturdy human figure born from the flames that symbolized the Khorne Greater Daemon.
The sturdy human figure instantly became clear. It was a tall, short-haired figure with a fleshy nose and broad arms, wearing an orange-yellow striped top and brown trousers. Its eyes contained both the anger and courage similar to the Blood God, as well as deep greed and a certain sense of justice, appearing to be a mixture of the powers of the Blood God, the blue giant god, and the mummified corpse.
This sturdy figure slowly raised its head and suddenly opened its mouth, as if to emit the first song celebrating its own birth.
But not a sound came from its throat, as if it still lacked something for a true birth—it still lacked an inspiring song.
The rider cast a wary glance at the figure; its power after birth would likely surpass the vast majority of the Four Gods' Greater Daemons, or even their chief Greater Daemons.
The blue giant god-like figure had almost completely digested the piece of flesh thrown by the mummified corpse, and its figure also seemed to have become much clearer.
The rider heard the Chime of the Machine.
The fire of laser rifles flickered across the battlefield.
The arrival of the swarm brought more microorganisms invisible to the naked eye. These microorganisms were silently and imperceptibly modifying Baal's environment, attempting to turn this place into a paradise for the swarm, causing the air to become foul-smelling, humid, and hot.
Anti-aircraft fire behind the lines was roaring; these shells were driving away the Tyranid swarm in the sky to prevent the swarm from launching an attack from above.
The anti-aircraft firepower possessed by the Angel Fortress, cast ten thousand years ago for the Legion, was so powerful that it forced the swarm to launch its offensive from the ground.
This was exactly what the angels wanted.
Yu Ji roared at the top of his lungs, hoping his voice could drown out the fear in his heart. The swarms were roaring as they surged toward the moat.
Yu Ji already knew the mission for them, these mortals, standing here: bait!
They were bait for the Tyranid swarm, luring these ravenous swarms into the moat filled with the Water of Thirst, letting these dangerous silver liquids kill them.
A scorching laser shot out from the laser rifle in Yu Ji's hand, along with thousands of others.
Under the command of the Saint Doraemon Sect, these lasers all aimed at specific units within the sea of bugs.
In the training Yu Ji had received, those units were called Node Creatures.
Termagants, Hormagaunts, and other low-level Tyranid creatures were like the sea Yu Ji had only heard of in ancient legends—almost endless.
When the Node Creatures among them were killed by the converging torrent of lasers, shells, or the angels' bolter rounds, those low-level Tyranid creatures would fall into chaos, but more Node Creatures would soon replenish them, restoring order to the sea of bugs and sending them rushing madly toward the moat.
Just a little more, just a little more.
The Water of Thirst emitted a hissing sound. Countless low-level Tyranid creatures surged into the moat, and that dangerous crackling sound rang out incessantly.
For any inhabitant of Baal, this crackling sound was extremely dangerous and terrifying, but now, it brought Yu Ji a sense of security.
Those Tyranid creatures covered in chitinous armor surged into the moat. The Water of Thirst touched these creatures from outside the galaxy, and the ancient technological creations performed their function.
The screams of the Tyranid creatures stopped almost in an instant. Those silver-tinged liquids wrapped around the Tyranid creatures like living things. Their chitinous armor turned pale, small white dots appeared, the moisture in their bodies was squeezed dry by the Water of Thirst, and their bodies fell heavily into the Water of Thirst, as if they had experienced ten thousand years of weathering in an instant.
Many, many Tyranid creatures fell into the river; their moisture was squeezed dry, leaving only shriveled bodies sinking to the bottom of the river.
So many of the swarm had died that those shriveled bodies were almost filling half the moat.
More Tyranid creatures stopped on the opposite side of the riverbank, hissing and screaming at the mortals on the other side of the moat, attempting to evoke the mortals' fear.
"Screw your mothers!" Luo Si, not far from Yu Ji, let out a curse. More mortals from Laixi or Axi issued joyful curses. While firing at the swarm standing on the opposite bank, they let out laughter filled with the pleasure of revenge.
Subsequently, the people of Baal joined in this moment, and in an instant, the fear on the defensive line was dispelled.
The swarm let out a sharp roar for the last time, and then something unexpected happened: the swarms on the opposite bank actually retreated. They rapidly moved away from the Water of Thirst, which was self-replicating and spreading out from the riverbank.
There was a moment of silence behind the defensive line, followed by an eruption of cheers, prayers, and songs.
The mortals vented their firepower, shooting at the backs of the fleeing Tyranid creatures.
"The Holy Blood be above!" An Astartes chaplain's crozius smashed heavily onto the ground, and he couldn't help but say: "We have achieved victory."
"The Archangel bless, the Emperor bless."
Yu Ji looked at the departing Tyranid creatures, suddenly let out a long breath, and sat down abruptly behind the defensive line.
He glanced at the laser rifle in his hand; the performance of this gun just now had also been very good. Yu Ji couldn't help but whisper:
"Also praise Saint Doraemon for the blessing, thank you for blessing my gunfire."
Before Yu Ji's words had even finished, he suddenly heard the sound of wind coming from the sky.
Those countless Tyranid flying units, which almost blotted out the sky, swooped down from the firmament.
But strangely, their target did not seem to be the defensive line, but rather...
Anti-aircraft fire began to vent, intercepting the Tyranid flying units swooping down.
Like poisoned flies, those beasts fell from the sky, plunging straight into the moat.
But what was truly eerie was that even the small number of Tyranid flying units that were not intercepted by the artillery fire rushed into the Water of Thirst without hesitation, letting the Water of Thirst suck dry their moisture, leaving only a shriveled body composed of hard keratin.
"What are they doing?" Yu Ji showed some terror.
At the same time, on the ground, a massive number of Tyranid behemoths came galloping from the horizon.
These Tyranid behemoths were not equipped with many terrifying biological weapons; they just had thicker skeletons and were covered with thicker bone armor on the surface.
This bone armor allowed them to withstand the mortals' torrent of lasers well. After reaching the edge of the moat, these creatures threw themselves into the river to commit suicide without hesitation.
"What are they doing?!" Yu Ji asked again in terror.
No one answered his question, because everyone understood that the swarm's counterattack had begun.
