Chapter 218: Father! Father! Why Have You Abandoned Us?
"."
Zhou Yun stroked his chin as he looked at the thread in his eye, faintly realizing what it was,
because from the other end of the thread came the will of Saint Guilliman. This was the connection between Zhou Yun and Saint Guilliman,
Zhou Yun could use this thread to temporarily link with Saint Guilliman's soul and body.
He could feel that on the other end of the thread, Saint Guilliman's state of mind was somewhat on the verge of collapse,
The corner of Zhou Yun's mouth twitched slightly; better not study this thread for now. Although he didn't know how it had appeared, it seemed that any action Zhou Yun took on this link would feed back onto Saint Guilliman's body,
The Great Angel was currently on the front lines and should not be disturbed.
Just then, Zhou Yun suddenly heard a clamor coming from the broken section of the city wall.
Yu Ji's foolish son, carrying three or four sacks of sand, huffed and puffed as he ran to the gap in the city wall, using the sandbags on his shoulder to plug it up.
The walls of Angel Fortress had previously been breached by the Tyranid swarms, and those monsters called Norn Emissaries had torn four or five enormous gaps in the walls,
and the giant Tyranid creature known as the Norn Assimilator had used the venom within its body to create a massive poison pool on the walls,
Although those three terrifying beasts had already been slain, and their remains had been taken away by the man who had appeared on the battlefield alongside the Great Angel,
the walls would not repair themselves, and unfortunately most of the regions of Baal Primus were still occupied by the swarms. The Blood Angels, having lost their Warp power, were also unable to obtain building materials from the other two planets,
so they could only have mortals use the yellow sand found everywhere on Baal to make sandbags, piling them up at the gaps in the walls and coordinating them with various lines of fire to form a temporary defensive line,
Fortunately, the swarms near Angel Fortress had already been cleared out by the Great Angel and the Blood Angels, so a large-scale attack was unlikely. Such a temporary defensive line would suffice.
A burst of praise rose from the nearby crowd. Although Yu Ji's son had some issues with his brain, he had once been a young man who had participated in the Angel trials, and his body was very strong, making him far more efficient at work than ordinary people.
The leader of the Saint Doraemon sect from Ashford, whose name was Old One-Eye, patted Yu Ji's son on the back and raised his thumb with his only remaining hand toward Yu Ji's son.
Watching this scene from afar, Yu Ji couldn't help but feel a bit proud,
This Old One-Eye had single-handedly taken down three Razorwings, losing only one arm in the process, making him a legendary figure among the mortals defending Angel Fortress,
His son had received the praise of such a hero, and for a moment Yu Ji felt his face shining with honor.
Honor, Yu Ji felt honor swelling in his heart — an honor that he and his ancestors had never enjoyed in all their years before,
they had fought shoulder to shoulder with the Angels. When the swarms charged Angel Fortress, Yu Ji and Yu Ji's son had fired artillery and lasers from the pinnacle of Angel Fortress's walls,
when Angel Fortress's walls were breached, Yu Ji and his son had seen the Great Angel.
Even now, Yu Ji still could not believe what he had seen — an Angel, wings trembling, descending into Angel Fortress, bringing cruel punishment to the demons and the xenos,
then the Angel used gentle words to soothe the fear in their hearts. Yu Ji was so moved he wept bitterly, almost believing he had already died and arrived at the Golden Wang Zuo, for how else could a mere mortal enjoy such glory.
Suddenly, a massive shadow blocked Yu Ji's body, and Yu Ji's nose caught the smell of ceramite and machine oil,
an Angel wearing crimson-colored power armor stood beside Yu Ji. He was draped in a hooded robe, looking like not just a warrior but also a priest.
Sanguinary Priest — regarding the Sanguinary Priests, in the training Yu Ji had previously received, he had learned a bit about the Angels' internal roles.
"my lord." Yu Ji, dry-mouthed, tried to stand up and salute, but his leg had been broken in battle and he could no longer stand.
Fortunately, the Angel did not mind, and instead turned his gaze to Yu Ji's son.
"Your son?" the Sanguinary Priest asked.
"Yes," Yu Ji hesitated: "He is my son."
The Angel extended his hand, beckoning the boy over. The boy put down the sandbag in his hands, then hesitated for a moment before running over.
The Sanguinary Priest noticed the scar on Yu Ji's son's forehead.
"An old wound," the Sanguinary Priest quickly judged: "How did it happen?"
"The Trial Grounds. During the final selection two years ago, he went." Yu Ji said dryly: "He was a brave boy, strong and clever. But what you sent back was a fool, a cripple."
"There are ten thousand ways to die in the Trial Grounds; to survive is already something one can call lucky."
The Sanguinary Priest slowly opened his wrist, and a series of strange instruments emerged from it:
"And the fact that he has lived to fight until now proves he is not a cripple. He has courage, worthy of respect, and shows no obvious radiation mutation. He is also a suitable candidate for a gene-seed."
The Sanguinary Priest said softly while scanning Yu Ji's son with the instruments.
"my lord." Yu Ji seemed to realize something, and couldn't help but widen his eyes: "But he—"
"A brain injury, we can fix that." The Sanguinary Priest said slowly: "Before his misfortune, he did indeed have a good mind."
"You are qualified. You will join us," the Sanguinary Priest said to the boy.
Yu Ji's son seemed to understand, and immediately widened his eyes.
The Sanguinary Priest did not lower his voice either; the nearby mortals all heard clearly.
Yu Ji trembled all over in disbelief, a tremendous honor and happiness crashing into his soul, making him unable to believe any of it.
"This is unusual, but we must do it," the Sanguinary Priest said slowly: "This is the Great Angel's order."
"He has issued a directive, abrogating Ji Li Man's Codex Astartes."
"The sons of Saint Guilliman will be reunited as one, the Legion will reappear on Baal, and we need fresh blood."
"Your son will be one of them. This has never happened before, but as the Great Angel says: the times have changed, hope is arriving, let us cast off the old and pick up the new."
Yu Ji didn't know what to say; his feelings were complicated, and for a moment there was only silence.
"Daddy." Yu Ji's foolish son suddenly spoke: "Will you be proud of me?"
"."
Yu Ji slightly opened his mouth, tears streaming down his face. He knew what he should say — in this war, his son had once saved his life.
"I should have remembered this all along. No matter when, you should always be my pride."
Koblra watched this scene in silence; he knew his objective had been achieved,
both selecting a suitable recruit, and letting the mortals inside Angel Fortress know that young people of appropriate age and excellent quality would have the chance to become members of the Blood Angels.
He patted the boy on the back and slowly began to speak: "Come with me——————"
Before Koblra could finish speaking, he suddenly whipped his head around, looking toward the defensive line made of sandbags,
a strange rustling sound was rising, heard by his enhanced superhuman senses.
"Pick up your weapons! Enemy attack!!!" Kobro's roar erupted as he raised his bolter, aiming at the sandbag fortifications.
"Father!!! Why have you abandoned us!!!"
"Purity, we are the pure ones, are we not??"
"The Wolf God!! The Wolf God!!!"
A roar filled with madness suddenly erupted; the sandbags burst as if bombed, and yellow sand instantly showered the area near the city walls.
Without hesitation, Kobro pulled the trigger, unleashing scorching bolter shells at the enemy behind the yellow sand.
He saw clearly what was attacking the Angel Fortress: a horde of Genestealers!!!
This left Kobro stunned; in previous wars, these monsters infected with Tyranid genes had never appeared.
This was because Lord Mephiston and Lord Zhou Yun had eliminated the Genestealer Patriarch and the Bishop before the war even broke out.
Logically, the cognitive distortion suffered by the Genestealers should have been briefly broken, freeing them from the Hive Mind's control until a new Patriarch was born.
But how could it be so fast? How could a new Patriarch be born so quickly?
Kobro had no time to think further before he felt a psychic assault strike him; his head suddenly throbbed with pain, and illusions appeared before his eyes.
He saw himself standing aboard the Revenge of the Soul, with Horus standing before him, the corpse of the Primarch lying at his feet.
Kobro saw that something seemed to be incubating, being born from the Primarch's body—something born from Horus killing Sanguinius.
Black Rage??
Kobro fell into terror.
How could a horde of Genestealers awaken his Black Rage, when clearly, after the Primarch's return, the Black Rage should have been suppressed???
Kobro roared violently, breaking free from the Black Rage's entanglement through sheer willpower.
Then he saw clearly the Genestealers surging into the Angel Fortress.
Their numbers were not great, but every single one bore something strange; besides the chitinous carapace of the Tyranid swarm, a layer of bizarre feathers had grown upon them.
The upper two of their four arms twisted backward, covered in feathers of black, blue, and white interwoven, resembling a short, deformed wing.
Their eyes were full of madness; roaring and bellowing, they unleashed waves of blasphemous and dark, bizarre psychic energy within the Angel Fortress.
"Father! Father! Why have you abandoned us! Are we not your pure offspring?!"
"Sanguinius! Sanguinius! Sanguinius!"
"My Lord, forgive us."
For some reason, Kobro felt a bone-chilling fear.
Boom!!! Boom!! Boom!!
Just then, a rain of melta fire descended from the sky.
Kobro saw only Zhou Yun, wearing a strange hat, hovering in mid-air, with over a dozen melta pistols floating beside him.
Every time a melta pistol's trigger was pulled, a Genestealer's body fell amidst the roar of fierce flames.
Zhou Yun stood in the heavens, looking down upon this scene.
His figure flashed, and in an instant, he appeared before a Genestealer.
The Genestealer's legs had been pierced by the melta pistol, yet it had not died.
Zhou Yun had deliberately left one alive, wishing to ask what was happening.
"Why have you come here? Has the new Patriarch been born? What is the matter with the mutations on your bodies?"
As he spoke, Zhou Yun's fingers lightly brushed the Melta Field Slate & Robot Director, infusing his words with an aura of authority that made the nearly mad Genestealer's body shudder.
"He has returned."
Broken words spat from the Genestealer's mouth:
"He has returned... He has returned."
"The Wolf God has returned!!!!!"
The Wolf God? Zhou Yun paused slightly.
Was that not...
Boom!!!
Suddenly, a spear fell from the sky, violently piercing and exploding the Genestealer's brain, leaving only a pool of thick gore.
Zhou Yun slowly raised his head, seeing only the Primarch's wings gently trembling, hovering above the sky.
His face bore a faint sorrow of compassion for all mankind, and in the morning light, he seemed like a holy statue.
