Chapter 237: Dante: Is this something I should be hearing??

~7 min read 1,248 words

Dante seemed to notice the doubt in Zhou Yun's gaze.

This veteran warrior, who had ruled the Blood Angels Chapter and the Baal system for a thousand years—longer than Sanguinius had served as Legion Master—wore a smile:

"Lord Zhou Yun, now that Lord Sanguinius has taken over the governance of all of Baal and the Blood Angels, the other Chapter Masters still command their own chapters, but the Blood Angels are now under the direct command of the Primarch. I have become the only one who doesn't need to shoulder any work."

"If I were to use the parlance of mortals, I suppose I have retired. I am likely the only Astartes in ten thousand years who can say they have retired."

"Then what about now?" Zhou Yun raised an eyebrow, looking curiously at the standard-issue Sanguinary Guard power armor Dante was wearing.

"The Primarch told me I could do whatever I wanted and enjoy myself."

Dante's face showed a hint of embarrassment:

"Unfortunately, after a thousand years, I haven't really cultivated any interests. I originally wanted to live in seclusion in my hometown on Baal II, but it was destroyed by the Tyranids."

"I wanted to try planting grapes, but I couldn't keep a single vine alive. I wanted to learn painting, but the portraits I drew looked as if they had been corrupted."

"In the end, I had no choice but to join the Sanguinary Guard to serve as the Primarch's bodyguard."

As he spoke, a radiant smile gradually spread across Dante's face:

"I discovered that this is truly a great job. There are three of us taking turns guarding the Primarch, and each of us only needs to work eight hours."

"In reality, there is nothing that needs guarding; the Primarch's power far exceeds our imagination, and he possesses formidable precognitive abilities. I am merely standing at the door acting as a decoration."

"During this time, I reflect on my life and organize my thoughts. Perhaps I will write an autobiography in my spare time?"

Zhou Yun's expression froze for a moment.

Good heavens, after taking a thousand-year detour, old man Dante had finally embarked on the righteous path of being a security guard.

What he said made perfect sense; Sanguinius was one of the most powerful Primarchs, and there were very few things in the material universe that could harm him.

Moreover, with his powerful precognitive abilities, he could avoid the vast majority of dangers.

When there was no fighting, Dante was essentially a living statue at the door, serving a ceremonial and decorative purpose.

So, this long-lived Astartes warrior had begun to conceive his autobiography.

"But I haven't decided on a title for the autobiography yet... Lord Zhou Yun, do you have any good suggestions?" Dante asked with a smile.

Then, a hint of bitterness crept into his smile:

"Lord Sanguinius suggested calling it *Dante—The Longest-Serving Ruler of the Blood Angels*."

"But that title is too boastful and arrogant. I feel like the Primarch is just making fun of me..."

Don't doubt it, he *is* making fun of you, Zhou Yun thought silently.

"The title of the autobiography..."

He rubbed his chin and thought for a brief moment:

"*The Story of How I, the Son of a Salt-Seller, Received the Guidance of Sanguinius and Became the Chapter Master of the Blood Angels for a Thousand Years*!"

"Huh?" Dante's expression went blank.

"Hahahahaha!" A clear, faint laughter drifted from inside the Crimson Council Chamber.

A flush of embarrassment crossed Dante's face.

Seeing this, Zhou Yun also smiled, nodded slightly at Dante, and pushed open the door to enter the Crimson Council Chamber.

The Crimson Council Chamber had been rebuilt after Dante had it dismantled, and it was filled with exquisite carvings and paintings.

Yet, these art pieces—any one of which, if sold, would be enough to bankrupt a Planetary Governor—paled in comparison to the figure sitting at the marble table in the center of the room.

It was the embodiment of the concept of perfection.

Sanguinius's golden hair hung down; he wore no silver-linked headcloth, nor was he clad in armor forged of fine gold. Instead, he wore robes that flowed like flaxen river water, and those wings of white tinged with blue hung behind him.

"My friend." Sanguinius nodded slightly in greeting to Zhou Yun and pushed aside the mountain of files at his side.

Zhou Yun glanced at them; these files had been processed, and the ink had been dry for a long time.

For the superhuman intellect of a Primarch, the affairs of these three sparsely populated worlds of Baal were hardly a burden.

It was likely that Sanguinius had finished these files long before Zhou Yun returned.

Dante, who was guarding the door, was slacking off, and Sanguinius inside the room was actually slacking off as well.

"Alright, Little Ho, you're slacking off in here while you send your uncle out to do the dirty work," Zhou Yun shouted quite loudly.

"Hmm?" Both Zhou Yun and Sanguinius clearly heard a soft grunt of confusion and terror from outside the door.

"... I have no objection to you calling yourself my elder, considering you were born long before Malcador."

Sanguinius said helplessly:

"But since you have returned from that Chrysalis Fortress and have consumed the part of my Warp essence that belonged to the Dark Angel, you should be clear about what I truly am, right?"

Zhou Yun nodded slightly: "The Death of Sanguinius *is* the Warp essence of Sanguinius."

"... My father obtained the materials to forge us from the Warp ten thousand years ago."

Sanguinius sighed softly and said quietly:

"Twenty surging powers from the Warp were injected into twenty-one newborn bodies and twenty-one newborn souls."

"It was those twenty surging powers from the Warp that shaped us, and it was we who, in turn, molded those twenty unformed powers into orderly shapes."

"Matter and the Warp influenced each other, and thus the twenty-one Gene-Primarchs were born."

"I do not know how my other nineteen brothers are, but my essence is my own death."

"I was killed by Horus on the *Vengeful Spirit*, and the Warp echo produced by that event birthed my Warp essence, which in turn pierced through time to shape the Primarch named Sanguinius in the past."

Sanguinius looked at Zhou Yun:

"Of course, there is also the future, where you used the Time Kerchief to repair Sanguinius's body and soul, mixed with the fragments of Sanguinius's soul scattered within the Blood Angels and the corruption you caused, which resurrected the Gene-Primarch you see before you."

Zhou Yun nodded lightly: "That is why you had to die on the *Vengeful Spirit*, and why you were destined to die on the *Vengeful Spirit*."

"If you had not died at that moment, your Warp essence would not have been birthed, and Sanguinius would not have been born."

This was also the reason why the winged figure in the white light was not the Sanguinius of ten thousand years ago.

Because the winged figure in the white light and Sanguinius could not exist simultaneously; when he was alive, he was Sanguinius, and when he was dead, he was the winged figure in the white light.

Just then, a sound of clashing metal came from outside the door.

Dante was sweating profusely and nearly lost his footing.

The Emperor extracted power from the Warp to forge the Primarchs??

My Father isn't pure??

Is this something I should be hearing???
