Chapter 31: If You're No Good, Just Practice More; If You Can't Handle Losing, Don't Play
"Hypnotic voices won't work on you, then try this!"
The Ark Gang's cult leader snorted lightly; the air around them suddenly grew cold, and ice flowers that defied the laws of physics bloomed in the air.
"Thunder!"
The Ark Gang cult leader shouted.
A pale thunderclap suddenly tore through reality, twisting its body as it stabbed toward Zhou Yun, so fast that only a beam of Bai Guang was seen streaking by.
Zhou Yun's figure flashed and vanished from the spot.
That Lei Guang was fast, but the Ark Gang cult leader's casting wind-up was too long.
Zhou Yun noticed she seemed more adept at using hypnotic voices and other mind-manipulating psychic powers.
Psychic spells like releasing lightning, frost, and fire, however, carried a sense of unfamiliarity and clumsiness.
Zhou Yun instantly appeared behind the Ark Gang cult leader, the mechanical hand on his head pointing straight at her.
A powerful torrent of telekinetic force slammed into the Ark Gang cult leader's back.
The Ark Gang cult leader hurriedly turned around, gathered her will, released her psychic power, and formed a shimmering barrier of mental energy.
The invisible telekinetic force collided with the mental energy barrier, sending gusts of hurricane-force winds swirling through the air.
Zhou Yun lifted his robe again, revealing the gourd hidden beneath his clothes.
"Pocket Long Juanfeng!"
A gray-black tornado five or six meters tall erupted from the gourd, whipping up dust, trash, and bricks from the ground, and surged toward the Ark Gang cult leader with ferocious momentum.
"None of them show any psychic response!"
The Ark Gang cult leader raised a hand, channeling psychic power to form an invisible hand that blocked the tornado.
Her eyes were filled with utter confusion.
Telekinesis, teleportation, air bullets, and this hurricane—
every attack from the man wearing a Rag face before her seemed like that of a seasoned psychic.
Yet there wasn't a trace of psychic response from him; he was even a non-psychic.
Zhou Yun gave the Ark Gang cult leader no time to think.
His figure flashed again, and in an instant he appeared behind the Ark Gang cult leader.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Simulating gunshots with his mouth, he pointed his fingertips at the Ark Gang cult leader.
Invisible bullets, capable of instantly knocking out an ordinary person, shot out at high speed.
The Ark Gang cult leader turned in anger, grabbed the tornado, and hurled it at Zhou Yun; the invisible bullets were swallowed by the tornado.
The gourd at Zhou Yun's waist moved, and he drew the hurricane back into the gourd.
"Love Hua Di Huang, for He is the savior of humanity!"
"Obey His words, for He will lead you into a bright future!"
The Ark Gang cult leader took a deep breath and infused the power of the Warp into her voice.
This time, what she unleashed was not a hypnotic voice, but a pure psychic scream:
"Heed His wisdom, for He will protect you from evil!"
"Chant His prayers, for He can save your soul!"
Hymns to Hua Di Huang poured from her mouth, instantly transforming into blades of sound that stabbed toward Zhou Yun.
Zhou Yun was shaken by the psychic-laden sound, and a sharp pain surged through every nerve in his body.
Seizing the opportunity, the Ark Gang cult leader waved her arm violently again, and a thunderclap sliced from the Warp into reality.
"Thunder!!!"
The thunderclap transformed into an arrow and surged, stabbing toward Zhou Yun.
Zhou Yun's figure turned into afterimages once more and vanished from the spot.
Her casting indeed revealed unfamiliarity and clumsiness; the wind-up was too long, making it nearly impossible to hit Zhou Yun, who could teleport instantly.
Zhou Yun guessed she might be more skilled in mind-control type psychic powers; after all, in the Underhive, only a few could resist hypnotic voices.
Here, a psychic's mental powers were far more practical than controlling lightning, fire, and frost.
"Your spells are too slow, and your aim is terrible; if you're no good, just practice more!"
Zhou Yun appeared behind the Ark Gang cult leader and taunted her.
At the same time, he focused his consciousness on his eyes, trying to use his X-ray vision to see the Ark Gang cult leader's bodily structure.
Since her appearance was hard to judge, he would look from the inside out—
Then Zhou Yun saw an extremely flat plain.
"Holy crap, it's so damn flat!" Zhou Yun couldn't help but blurt out.
"Huh?" The Ark Gang cult leader instantly froze in place.
Of the three superpowers—telekinesis, teleportation, and X-ray vision—X-ray vision was the one Zhou Yun was least skilled at.
He had originally intended to look at the Ark Gang cult leader's internal organs to determine if she was a Gene-Thief.
But unexpectedly, he only saw through a layer of clothing.
Noticing Zhou Yun's gaze, the Ark Gang cult leader blinked her eyes, then instantly realized what had happened:
"X-ray vision? You bastard!!!"
The Ark Gang cult leader shouted in angry shame.
Psychic power surged into her flesh and blood, and her figure instantly turned into afterimages as she closed in on Zhou Yun.
Her fist swung toward Zhou Yun; Zhou Yun raised a hand to block—
Boom!!
The fist hammered onto the body clay covering Zhou Yun's surface, twisting and deforming the clay-shaped skin.
Zhou Yun flinched, his body turning into an afterimage and vanishing on the spot.
Telekinesis, lightning control, flesh reinforcement.
This guy knows quite a few psionic spells,
Though they don't form a system, and they reek of clumsiness and unfamiliarity.
That punch just now clearly reinforced the flesh, turning his fist into a lethal weapon,
If not for the clay on Zhou Yun's body surface providing some defense, especially against blunt strikes, that punch alone would've broken at least a few of Zhou Yun's bones.
Noticing that Zhou Yun, after taking her fist, only had bizarre wrinkles appear on his skin, twisted like clay pinched by a child.
"What kind of monster are you?!" The Ark Sect Hierophant sucked in a cold breath,
Resistant to the Bewitching Sound, able to teleport and dodge thunder, with bizarre skin that can defend against fists.
The Ark Sect Hierophant couldn't help but feel fear—what kind of monster is this!
She swung her arm again, forcibly tearing a bolt of thunder from subspace and thrusting it toward Zhou Yun.
Zhou Yun's figure flashed, vanishing once more from the spot.
"If you're bad, practice more. If you can't afford to lose, don't play."
Zhou Yun's figure appeared not far from her, taunting.
"You bastard, if not for you being able to resist my Bewitching Sound," the Ark Sect Hierophant said through gritted teeth.
"The past is the past, the present is the present." Zhou Yun shrugged, gathering his intent into his eyes.
The Ark Sect Hierophant focused her spirit and gathered her Qi,
Telekinesis is useless, subspace lightning can't hit, pure physical attacks are hard to deal damage.
She took a deep breath, psionic power surging between flesh and blood.
The Ark Sect Hierophant swung her fist, arriving before Zhou Yun in the blink of an eye.
"Bam! Bam! Bam!"
Zhou Yun spat out three bams from his mouth, air bullets firing from his fingertips.
The Ark Sect Hierophant didn't dodge or evade, enduring the dizziness from the bullets head-on, and charged right up to Zhou Yun.
Zhou Yun held his breath and focused, using his x-ray vision to look at the Ark Sect Hierophant.
A Lei Guang rose from the Ark Sect Hierophant's fingertip,
This time it wasn't subspace lightning, but bioelectricity released by reinforcing the nervous system—fast enough that Zhou Yun had no time to dodge.
The Bright Feather School, famous among the Thousand Children for using psionics to control flesh and blood, also uses this method; releasing psionic lightning, the Ark Sect Hierophant's move arrives at the same destination by different paths.
The fist wrapped in thunder slammed heavily into Zhou Yun's face, scraping away layers of body clay.
Zhou Yun retreated a few steps, looking at the Ark Sect Hierophant with a somewhat dumbfounded gaze,
Not because of the tingling numbness from the bioelectricity on his face, but because
"Holy shit, you're actually not a Jizei, you're a human?!" Zhou Yun blurted out, staring at the Ark Sect Hierophant's internal organs.
The Ark Sect Hierophant blinked dumbfoundedly, looking at the body clay falling from Zhou Yun's face, and the human features revealed beneath.
"How are you also a human?? Aren't you a running dog of the Interstellar Demon?!" The Ark Sect Hierophant couldn't help but blink.
Brothers, join the group, become a Jizei
