Chapter 587
Emerald light was surging in the dark room, and quantum entanglement was transmitting information from the distant shore.
Those energies gradually took shape in the darkness, condensing into translucent shadows, turning into holographic projections presented in mid-air.
The first to appear were two tall Necrons; they stood on a high platform built of blackstone, standing in mid-air, holding light staves flickering with emerald light, looking down at the room with eyes burning with emerald flames.
They were the two Phaerons of the Triarch besides the Silent King; their size was so massive that even Astartes paled in comparison, but compared to the figure standing in the center of the blackstone throne, they appeared insignificant.
That tall and slender figure was twice as tall as the two Phaerons, his body seemingly forged from immortal mithril, draped in a strange cloak flickering with energy, a pair of eyes burning and shining like a poisonous star.
But he did not reveal his face, instead wearing an exquisite golden mask, on which was carved a handsome, elegant, sacred, and slightly sad face, with a ruby like holy blood hanging between the eyebrows of this face.
That was the golden mask carved with Sanguinius's face; ten thousand years ago, Sanguinius and the Silent King had met by chance and reached a certain degree of friendship.
The Silent King marveled that such a beautiful and sacred thing could be born from the primitive race of humanity, and thus cherished this friendship quite a bit.
When he heard that Sanguinius hoped for a conversation, the Silent King took out this golden mask and placed it on his face to show his remembrance of the friendship with Sanguinius.
This was actually a bit of a lowering of his status for the Silent King, but cherishing the memory of that brief friendship ten thousand years ago, the Silent King allowed this behavior that did not conform to his status.
The Silent King lowered his head from on high, looking into the dark room with burning eyes, expecting to see that beautiful golden face——————
He saw a set of power armor interwoven with ultramarine and gold, saw a boring, rational, serious face that was tired after long-term work, with even wrinkles on his face and some white hair mixed in his blond hair.
That face looked a bit like the head printed on ancient human coins, but it was not worth the Silent King's gaze.
What is this thing?
A blue monkey ruler?
Looks ambitious?
Where is my Sanguinius?
"Listen, humble existence, I am Hapsatras the Radiant, a member of the Triarch, one of the three supreme rulers of the Necrons, and also the servant and mouthpiece of the Silent King Szarekh."
One of the Phaerons said in a series of High Gothic that sounded extremely complex even to Guilliman.
This was the custom of the Necrons and the former Necrontyr.
The Silent King was as his name suggested, silent, never speaking, never directly conveying his will.
Instead, the two Phaerons who shared the position of the Triarch beside him spoke on his behalf.
"Szarekh is the Silent King, Szarekh is the Lord of the Galaxy, Szarekh is the destroyer of the gods, Szarekh is eternity, Szarekh is death, Szarekh is the savior and reshaper of the world."
"Szarekh asks the lowly you: Who are you? Where is the pure Sanguinius?"
"I am Roboute Guilliman, the 13th Primarch, brother of Sanguinius, Regent of the Empire." Guilliman responded to the Silent King in a flat tone, neither appearing humble nor arrogant.
"The great Szarekh feels your stupidity; Sanguinius could have been the hope of your race, replacing the corpse commander who plays with wizards to lead your race, yet your stupid human race chose... an ambitious coin head to lead you."
Ambitious coin head.
Fulgrim, hiding in the darkness, almost laughed out loud, but Guilliman was a mature politician and was not shaken by this mere nickname.
He turned his head slightly, looking into the darkness.
Golden light surged instantly, and Sanguinius's figure appeared from the darkness, looking at Szarekh with a smile.
"Silent King, old friend, please don't misunderstand."
"We Primarchs are all sons of the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang, and we all understand that the only ruler of humanity is the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang; I have never thought of usurping the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang's position."
"Although Guilliman looks ambitious, he has never thought of being above us; he is equal to us, and he is the spokesperson for us and our race."
"Just as Hapsatras the Radiant is your mouthpiece, Guilliman is also the mouth of mine, the other Primarchs, the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang, humanity, and Saint Doraemon; what he says is what I want to say to you."
The Silent King's gaze moved slightly, and he gently reached out and took off the Sanguinius golden mask on his face, revealing his face that looked like a metal skeleton.
Szarekh's eyes swept through the darkness and nodded slightly to Sanguinius.
This was already the greatest degree of respect under the Silent King's status.
"Sanguinius! Pure one! The noble born from a lowly race!"
"Szarekh greets you and extends infinite respect to you; we will talk to your mouthpiece to decide the fate of your race!"
Hapsatras the Radiant bowed to Sanguinius according to the Necron etiquette for Phaerons, and then looked at Guilliman standing before them:
"In the name of Szarekh, you must know the sins you have committed; Anrakyr is a shameless traitor, Trazyn is a shameful little thief, both are criminals of our Necron Empire, and your association with them is truly evil."
"However, the Silent King is kind-hearted, knowing your ignorance, knowing that you were actually deceived by the rebels; Szarekh's blade will naturally capture the criminals, and you must not obstruct it."
"The Human Empire is willing to cooperate with the Necron Empire to hand over the criminals, but your race and my race are not allies and there is no extradition treaty. According to the laws common to all races in the galaxy, shouldn't this matter be discussed after humanity and the Necrons have officially formed an alliance?" Guilliman smiled slightly, cleverly turning the topic.
Hapsatras the Radiant, however, let out a smile that was almost disdainful.
He flicked his arm slightly, and countless points of light flashed before his eyes, turning into hundreds of images, which contained different scenes of humanity in different eras.
"We know what your frail Empire is; our astrologers have reproduced the quantum trajectories of your race with technology beyond your understanding. Your territory is insignificant, your technology is too primitive, your power is extremely weak, and your monarch is nothing but a piece of old cured meat playing with wizards."
"You don't want to admit it, but the truth is that your race has declined; even in your prime, it was still not worth mentioning to the great Necron Dynasty."
"But, our Lord, the Silent King Szarekh, grants you mercy, allowing you to coexist with the Necron civilization."
"As allies? As friends?" Guilliman asked.
"As slaves." Hapsatras the Radiant declared: "We don't need allies, nor do we need friends, but Lord Szarekh, based on his private friendship with Sanguinius, grants you the greatest generosity; you can pray to exist as legal slaves of the Necron Empire."
"Your race will be protected by the Necron Empire, you will be levied a tithe, one-tenth of your population and resources will serve the Necron Star Empire; as long as you make a plea, the Silent King will receive your delegation and negotiate with you the matter of the human race submitting and surrendering to the Necron Star Empire."
"And Sanguinius will exist as the Phaeron of your human race, standing in a high position alongside us."
"No, Silent King, you need humanity, you need to form an alliance with us."
Guilliman's gaze did not look at Hapsatras the Radiant, but directly at the Silent King:
"Humanity can give you what you desire, humanity can reverse the greatest tragedy of your race, humanity can reverse your biotransference."
"Szarekh, I offer the alliance conditions of humanity to the Necron race: Saint Doraemon will grant your race a soul, expel the coldness in your metal bodies, and let you truly live in this world."
"And what you need to pay is to form an alliance with humanity, share honor and disgrace with humanity, and face the endless crises in this galaxy together with humanity."
Hapsatras the Radiant froze in place, as if his will had been suddenly withdrawn.
The emerald flames in the Silent King's eyes flickered violently a few times; he looked at Guilliman suddenly, and then at Sanguinius.
At this moment, Trazyn's voice sounded: "Your Majesty the Silent King, I am Trazyn, a memory replica of Trazyn, the Chief Archivist of the Necrontyr, a fake, empty metal robot, a fool who once personally pushed his friend into a scorching furnace."
"Sixty million years ago, you once asked me if biotransference should be carried out, and I answered you: 'Nothing is more terrifying than death; it is death that has caused all the tragedies of our race.'"
"I claimed at that time that I had reached the answer from the past history of the Necrontyr, but I think I just gave a wrong answer from my fear."
"At that time, a tumor grew in Orikan's brain, and that tumor even began to affect that genius brain. I feared that the genius brain like Orikan's would be destroyed by the tumor and death—even if Orikan himself didn't care—this was the real reason why I supported biotransference."
Trazyn walked out of the darkness and bowed deeply to the Silent King:
"Your Majesty, in the tens of millions of years you left this galaxy, I have constantly preserved, recorded, and understood the history of thousands of races in the galaxy."
"And among these thousands of races, the one I like the most is humanity; humanity is very similar to the Necrontyr."
"In the galactic history that is often counted in hundreds, thousands, ten thousand, or even tens of millions of years, those humans with only a few decades of life are as fragile and short-lived as the Necrontyr."
"But they have twice become the dominant race in this galaxy. Their culture is not immersed in the fear of death, but full of vitality and enthusiasm. They are more calm than us when facing death, and they give death a meaning that transcends pain."
"Your Majesty, I therefore give you a new answer: all the tragedies of the Necrontyr do not come from death itself, but from the Necrontyr's fear of death."
"But the Necrontyr at that time did not understand that what is more terrifying than death is the fear of death."
"The fear of death drove us to madly crave eternal life, drove us to launch a cruel war against the Old Ones, drove us to be deceived by the C'tan, drove us to become empty metal bodies."
"We have eternal life, but the price is endless emptiness and meaninglessness; this is a death more thorough than death."
Trazyn stared at Szarekh and said: "So, Your Majesty, I beg you to adopt my opinion this time as well."
"Form an alliance with humanity and make up for the mistakes you and I made back then."
The air became silent at this moment; Szarekh stared at Trazyn, the flames in his eyes constantly flickering and flashing, as if he were anxiously thinking about something.
Then, the Silent King actually slowly moved his gaze away from Trazyn, looking as if he didn't want to listen to Trazyn's words.
This attitude made Trazyn unbearable.
