Chapter 7: 30k Little Yang Xiu?
"Wait, you know?" Old One-Eye looked at Zhou Yun with some surprise.
That look seemed to say: I waited half a day for a chance to show off, and you just stole it?
He shook his head and said, "The Hua Hua Hua Di Huang teaches us humility; it seems I have not learned enough."
Zhou Yun's mouth twitched slightly.
He was actually puzzled about where Old One-Eye had learned of this person.
Ignis Karkas, a poet from the Great Crusade era ten thousand years ago,
was one of the chroniclers sent by Lord Mal to record the history of humanity's crusade, following the 63rd Fleet of the Great Crusade.
Following the Great Crusade's fleet to record the fleet's and the Astartes' great conquests was an honor almost unattainable for a poet,
and even more honorable was that the main force of this fleet was the Sons of Horus Legion of the Space Marines, who later changed their name to the Sons of Horus.
The most, most, most honorable thing was that the commander was the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang's Answer, the pinnacle of Primarchs, the beloved Horus Lupercal.
And he had only recently been granted the title of Warmaster by the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang, becoming the leader of the entire Great Crusade.
For a poet, what more could one ask for?
Without Erebus, it might truly have been so.
Before launching the Great Heresy against Terra, Horus had nearly slaughtered all the chroniclers of the entire 63rd Fleet,
and this Ignis Karkas was among the first few to die.
If Zhou Yun were to evaluate Ignis Karkas, he would say he was the 30k Little Yang Xiu.
Ignis Karkas's insight was quite sharp; the problem was that it was too sharp.
He had three famous quotes in his life.
"The Empire we built will topple in an instant! Remember my words! This is inevitable!"
"Even a performer of such extraordinary talent as Lady Hecate could not match Erebus's magnificent performance today."
"First Captain Abaddon, what was that silver coin you handed him when you met Erebus?"
Just from this, Zhou Yun could feel this poet's sharp insight and... his near-crazy ability to court death.
If you saw it, you saw it; you just had to say it out loud especially loudly.
These three sentences could offend both the Loyalists and the Traitors simultaneously.
With the last sentence, he even said it right in front of Abaddon himself.
Abaddon, the First Captain of the Sons of Horus, almost twisted his neck right there on the spot.
Later, he wrote a pamphlet titled "We Have Only Truth," whose main content condemned the hypocrisy of the Sons of Horus and their contempt for mortals.
This successfully caught the Warmaster's attention, and he was fortunately assassinated by the Warmaster's killers.
"At that time, words of loyalty and truth still existed in our ears; alas, we closed our ears and blocked our hearing due to pride."
The winged figure within the Bai Guang in Zhou Yun's eyes sighed.
"If he had followed the Blood Angels' fleet, he might have written 'We Have Only Blood Thirst and Ghouls'." Zhou Yun shrugged and said quietly.
Ignis Karkas was not a loyal person; the reason he wrote these things and said these things was simply because he felt it was the truth and he wanted to say it.
Throw him to any Legion, and he would not have a good outcome.
A death-like silence filled the air.
"If you went to be a chronicler, you might not live as long as he did," the winged figure within the Bai Guang shivered and said.
Zhou Yun glanced at the white figure in the Bai Guang who was trying hard to play the role of Sanguinius.
He remembered that on the day of the Siege of Terra, when Sanguinius fell, the Blood Angels had witnessed his soul being devoured by the Four Gods.
That is to say, unless the Four Gods spit out what they had eaten, and then the Hua Hua Hua Di Huang painstakingly pieced his soul fragments back together one by one,
otherwise Sanguinius could not possibly exist intact in the 40th Millennium and converse rationally with himself.
It is possible for a whole, intact Sanguinius to exist in the 40k, but for Sanguinius to be a whole, intact entity in the 40k is somewhat impossible.
As for whether he is Tzeentch's trickery, some Chaos illusion, or a Warp entity worshipped into existence by humanity... Zhou Yun felt it was hard to say.
"Anyway, he doesn't look like the original Great Angel." Zhou Yun shook his head and muttered quietly.
"What?" Old One-Eye, hearing Zhou Yun's words, blinked his eyes and asked.
"Nothing... What about Ignis Karkas?" Zhou Yun waved his hand and asked.
"One of Ignis Karkas's notebooks might be in Sector Eight Old; someone wants to buy it at a high price." Old One-Eye said in a low voice.
Zhou Yun almost laughed out loud: "Fine, asking Lag to find PDF equipment for him is one thing."
"You want to find a small notebook in my entire collapsed sector? This notebook might have been shattered into dust over a hundred years."
"It's not entirely without clues; you should also know this job came from the High Hive."
"The lords upstairs just love researching this kind of thing, so the intelligence is very complete."
Old One-Eye pointed upwards and said:
"It is a fifty-page quarto notebook, bound in black lamb skin. It is said to be produced on Terra ten thousand years ago and was well-preserved when it last appeared."
"It was placed in an instrument specifically used to preserve ancient books, with independent power supply, internal stasis, and a shell of ceramite; theoretically, it can run stably for several hundred years."
"The upstairs said the notebook's last master was from the Corpse Guild, so it might be in the Corpse Guild branch in Sector Eight Old."
Hearing this, Zhou Yun raised his eyebrows and looked Old One-Eye up and down.
The High Hive? The middle class in the High Hive couldn't possibly know this clearly, nor could they afford to buy an artifact produced on Terra ten thousand years ago.
Zhou Yun guessed this job was almost certainly commissioned by the nobles of the Top Hive, and probably not just any ordinary noble.
Could Old One-Eye actually connect with the Top Hive?
Zhou Yun couldn't help but look this bar owner up and down again.
There were many rumors about this bar owner in this nearby sector.
Some said he was a former gang legend who once led a gang to invade the High Hive; others said he was an escaped rebel secretly hiding in this bar; some even claimed he was once a member of the PDF.
In short, the more bizarre, the better.
"The reward for a live one is huge. I know you need money, and I believe only you can pull this off."
Old One-Eye lowered his voice and said:
"I won't take much from you; just one-tenth. After all, even one-tenth is enough to make a fortune once the deed is done."
Zhou Yun pondered for a moment; since he had to go anyway, he might as well investigate while he was at it.
He nodded slightly to Old One-Eye and said, "Fine, I'll go look for it at the Corpse Guild."
"Much appreciated. I'll arrange the carriage for you tomorrow." Saying this, Old One-Eye took another bottle from the wine cabinet and poured it into Zhou Yun's cup.
"This drink is on me. May you retrieve that notebook, and may we both strike it rich."
The scarlet wine bubbled and hissed in the cup. Zhou Yun smiled, lifted the cup, and downed it in one gulp.
That's all for today's update! I'm off to paint the King Worm!
