Chapter 76: Clan Leader: Should I Be Running Away?

~7 min read 1,298 words

A short, piercing crackle erupted as a scorching bio-plasma projectile leaped through the dark dungeon.

This flickering ball of lightning illuminated nearly half the dungeon.

Malgite hurriedly commanded the surrounding Plague Zombies; these rotting corpses swarmed together to form a grotesque wall of flesh.

But the instant the bio-plasma collided with it, the air filled with the stench of burning rotting meat.

In the blink of an eye, the flesh wall formed by the Plague Zombies was easily shattered, and the ball surging with lightning rushed toward Zhou Yun.

Zhou Yun felt no surprise at this.

In the Tyranids, the Executioner is equivalent to the Dreadnought among the Astartes.

And the Screamer Killer is the largest and most terrifying subspecies among the Executioners.

They possess not only four sharp, deadly claws but can also gather their famous white-hot bio-plasma within their esophagus.

This bio-plasma scrapes against the scrapers inside their esophagus, roaring out accompanied by a sharp, piercing low hum.

Even a Dreadnought struck by one of these would be either dead or severely wounded.

A standard Dreadnought requires at least a Terminator squad to reliably hunt such a monster.

A mere group of Plague Zombies is like chopping melons and vegetables to a Screamer Killer.

Without hesitation, Zhou Yun grabbed Malgite with one hand and pulled a Ring of Anywhere from his chest with the other, fastening it to the wall.

He dragged Malgite and dove into the Ring of Anywhere.

The scorching plasma arrived and exploded the next second; blinding arcs of electricity roared around, and the high-temperature shock melted the steel of the cast walls, leaving a floor covered in dripping molten iron.

Yet amidst the molten iron and splashing plasma, the traces of Zhou Yun and Malgite were gone.

The surrounding Plague Zombies let out piercing, shrill screams; their flesh swelled further, becoming even stronger.

Wielding various weapons, the Plague Zombies twisted their mutated bodies and charged at the Screamer Killer.

The Screamer Killer violently vibrated its four blades; static crackled and sparked, and scorching plasma arcs wrapped around them.

The Screamer Killer could not only release bio-plasma through its esophagus but also generate scorching arcs via the static field on its blades.

The blades waved like light, and the arcs were blinding like whips; in the blink of an eye, it carved a ring piled high with charred corpses out of the Plague Zombie encirclement.

While waving its four blades, it searched for the traces of Zhou Yun and Malgite.

Its keen biological senses vaguely sensed that Zhou Yun and Malgite might have hidden themselves in the pipes between the walls by some method.

It twisted its massive head, followed its senses to locate the two within the wall, and began brewing scorching bio-plasma in its mouth again.

This giant beast intended to blast straight through the wall and roast the two into charcoal—

However, Zhou Yun's figure suddenly flashed, appearing atop the Screamer Killer's head.

Relying on his understanding of Tyranid biological forms, Zhou Yun swung his fist, clad in a Super Glove, smashing toward the "bald" spot on the Screamer Killer's head not covered by chitinous armor.

But the Screamer Killer displayed flexibility almost impossible for its size, suddenly twisting its body so that Zhou Yun's fist struck the thick armor on its back.

A series of crisp cracking sounds echoed from the armor, and cracks appeared on the giant beast's thick carapace.

Yet, relying on the perfectly designed biological armor of the Tyranid Hive Fleet, it withstood Zhou Yun's punch.

The Screamer Killer shook its body and dodged beneath Zhou Yun's fist in a flash.

Zhou Yun's figure flashed again, vanishing from beside the Screamer Killer.

But the Screamer Killer's agility was extremely high, and its reaction speed was faster than reason allowed.

It almost instantly located Zhou Yun after his teleportation; its seven or eight-meter-tall body arrived before Zhou Yun in the blink of an eye.

Its sharp claws fell simultaneously from four directions at a speed no ordinary human could match.

The hunting knowledge deep in the Screamer Killer's genes told it that the hunt for this tiny creature before it had succeeded.

Even the Gene-Slicer Patriarch, hiding in the shadows and extremely cautious, almost felt he was about to win.

Ding—

A crisp sound rang out.

In the shocked gaze of the Gene-Slicer Patriarch hiding in the shadows,

Zhou Yun raised the hand holding the toy-like short sword, blocking one of the Screamer Killer's claws with a posture, speed, and strength completely inhuman.

He then lightly deflected the claw and, almost simultaneously, blocked the other three claws.

The Screamer Killer's four sharp blades waved and fell at high speed again, leaving afterimages in the air.

Yet Zhou Yun seemed to move with effortless ease; the hand holding the famous sword Dian Guang Wan seemed to move on its own, easily blocking every attack of the Screamer Killer.

The blades of the Screamer Killer, from the Leviathan Hive Fleet, refined through countless genetic iterations, balanced, deadly, and swift.

The famous sword Dian Guang Wan, a nine-years-and-up children's toy sold in a Future Department Store in the 22nd century.

The two collided in this pitch-black dungeon, seemingly evenly matched, neither gaining the upper hand.

This scene made the Gene-Slicer Patriarch, lurking in the darkness, feel somewhat numb.

The Screamer Killer is the pinnacle of the Tyranid Executioner design.

Its four arms have all evolved into pure blades, completely abandoning various Tyranid ranged bio-weapons.

The swordsmanship instinct integrated into its genes is something many lives could not forge even after hundreds of years of training.

But now, this human before it, who had undergone no modifications and possessed only an ordinary human body,

was actually fighting the Screamer Killer back and forth relying on a blade that was unsharpened and looked much like a toy.

The Gene-Slicer Patriarch even began to suspect whether the genetic sequence information sent to him by the Hive Mind was a castrated version.

Actually, if an Executioner equipped with ranged Tyranid bio-weapons or another Tyranid giant beast had come,

Zhou Yun would not have fought so easily.

But the Screamer Killer, apart from its bio-plasma which requires time to charge and is deadly to the extreme,

had almost all its abilities invested by the Hive Mind into melee combat with its blades.

And the famous sword Dian Guang Wan in Zhou Yun's hand, as long as it had electricity, feared no such blade combat.

At point-blank range, the close-quarters combat made it very difficult for the Screaming Killer to seize an opportunity to release its bio-plasma.

The Gene Thief Patriarch did not know this.

Watching Zhou Yun trade blows evenly with the Screaming Killer, its vigilance surged.

"This guy looks a bit dangerous." A thought of sneaking away sprang up in its mind.

If it hadn't appeared that it still held the advantage right now, the Gene Thief Patriarch might have truly fled.

It quietly shifted its massive body, moving through the shadows, and silently crouched behind Zhou Yun.

The Gene Thief Patriarch sought an opportunity.

In such fierce hand-to-hand combat, the consumption of energy was great.

It intended to strike him suddenly at the moment when Zhou Yun and the Screaming Killer clashed most fiercely and were least able to guard against a sneak attack.

Now!!!

The Gene Thief Patriarch lunged out of the darkness with a sudden pounce, four sharp claws aimed at Zhou Yun.

"Behind you." The voice of the winged figure within the Bai Guang sounded.

Zhou Yun turned his head with an air of calm indifference, looking at the Gene Thief Patriarch that had sneak-attacked him.

There might be another chapter in a while; I'm almost finished writing it (in a newly created folder.)
