Chapter 98: I Refuse!

~7 min read 1,277 words

Su Chen’s words left the several demon clan Great Saints deep in thought.

Indeed, since these Great Saints understood Su Chen’s abilities and had been convinced by him, they naturally had no objections.

But what of the tens of thousands of demons below?

The relationship between demon clan and human race has always been complex since ancient times.

Though not mortal enemies like the demons and the Wu, they were certainly far from harmonious.

Letting a human serve as the demon alliance’s chief administrator—this news, if spread, would surely stir discontent among the unaware demons below.

Given the defiant nature of those demon kings, they would certainly rise up in opposition.

“This…” Sun Wukong scratched his head, also feeling the matter was indeed difficult, “then what do we do? Aside from you, I can’t think of anyone else who could handle this job.”

Niu Mowang and the others also frowned deeply.

The “advisor” position Su Chen proposed was crucial.

It could be said to be the key to transforming the demon alliance from a scattered mob into a disciplined army.

The person in this position must possess sufficient strategic vision, cunning, and authority.

Looking around, among the seven brothers, Sun Wukong was impulsive, Niu Mowang sought only self-preservation, Jiao Mowang ’s ambitions were too great, Shi Tuo Wang lacked conviction, Mi Hou Wang and Yu Rong Wang were clever but still lacked vision and boldness.

After careful consideration, it truly was only Su Chen who was the sole candidate.

“Su Chen brother, we understand your concerns,” Niu Mowang said gravely, “but this matter concerns the future of our demon alliance. Aside from you, no one else can Shengren . As for the dissent from those below… we seven brothers are all here—who dares to object?”

His words radiated overwhelming authority, revealing the undeniable prestige of the leader among the Seven Great Saints.

“Big brother’s right!” Sun Wukong slapped his chest, “Who dares object? I’ll be the first to knock them down!”

Su Chen knew they genuinely wanted him to serve as advisor.

His reason for raising this issue was not to refuse, but to bring this hidden risk into the open, ensuring everyone was mentally prepared.

With these Great Saints standing behind him, his position as advisor would be secure.

“Since all the Great Saints say so, then Su Chen will not refuse,” Su Chen rose and said solemnly to all, “I shall spare no effort, devote myself entirely to the demon alliance!”

“Good!” Everyone applauded and laughed heartily.

“Now that the Alliance Lord, Deputy Lord, and Advisor are settled,” Su Chen sat down and continued, “next, we must assign the lower positions. Just the seven of us is far from enough. We must integrate every demon king who has come to join us into our alliance structure, giving them a sense of belonging and honor.”

“I propose establishing two tiers beneath the Advisor.”

“First, the ‘Thirty-Six Heavenly Gang Demon Kings’! From all demon kings who have pledged allegiance, select the thirty-six strongest and grant them this title. They will be the backbone of our alliance, each commanding a portion of demon troops to guard their assigned territories.”

“Second, the ‘Seventy-Two Earthly Sha Demon Generals’! Similarly, select seventy-two demon kings of considerable strength and grant them this title. Their status ranks just below the Heavenly Gang Demon Kings, serving as deputies and reserve forces for each division.”

“Thirty-Six Heavenly Gang Demon Kings, Seventy-Two Earthly Sha Demon Generals?” Mi Hou Wang’s eyes lit up, “That’s a great name—sounds mighty!”

“Precisely,” Su Chen nodded, “we must not only give them titles, but also real benefits—such as allocating land, priority access to cultivation resources, and so on. At the same time, we must establish clear rules: rewards and punishments must be fair. Those who perform well may be promoted; those who fail may be replaced at any time.”

“This will create a healthy competitive mechanism, motivating everyone’s initiative.”

Sun Wukong nodded repeatedly, his gaze filled with admiration for Su Chen: “Little brother, you’ve got the sharpest mind.”

Niu Mowang and the others also fully endorsed Su Chen’s proposal.

They realized Su Chen’s envisioned demon alliance was no longer a mere makeshift organization.

It was a force with a clear power structure, a perfected promotion system, and strict regulations!

“Good! Let’s do it!” Niu Mowang slammed his fist down decisively, “Tomorrow, we’ll summon all demon kings and officially announce the formation of the demon alliance, selecting the candidates!”

With the plan settled, the group drank a few more cups before dispersing—they needed to privately communicate with the demon kings first to ensure no problems arose during tomorrow’s alliance founding.

Su Chen and Sun Wukong remained in the Water Curtain Cave.

“Little brother, today was truly thanks to you,” Sun Wukong said sincerely, “Without you, I’d never have thought of such a solution.”

Su Chen smiled: “Big Brother Monkey, we’re brothers—no need for such formalities. But tomorrow’s event won’t go smoothly.”

“Oh?” Sun Wukong raised an eyebrow, “You mean someone will object?”

“Definitely,” Su Chen nodded, “especially regarding the Advisor position. I’m human—they’ll have thoughts. Someone will surely step forward to challenge me.”

“So what!” Sun Wukong said confidently, “Whoever steps forward, I’ll show them whose fist is bigger!”

“Big Brother Monkey, no need for you to act,” Su Chen shook his head, “this is my matter—I must resolve it myself. For any force to remain stable, fairness is paramount. I cannot rely on you to hold this advisor position, or it will plant seeds of disaster within the alliance.”

Sun Wukong, hearing Su Chen’s reasoning, could only nod in agreement.

He then bid Su Chen farewell—he too needed to go down and speak with the demon kings first, since all who came to Huaguo Mountain did so because of him; he couldn’t avoid appearing.

The next day, the sun rose in the east.

On a slope beside the Water Curtain Cave on Huaguo Mountain, a dense crowd of demons had gathered.

Among the multitude of demons, those who had not spoken privately with the Great Saints whispered among themselves, uncertain what the Great Saints were plotting.

Soon, Su Chen, Sun Wukong, Niu Mowang , and the other six appeared before the assembled demons.

Sun Wukong stood at the front, cleared his throat, and channeled his magic power, his voice enveloping everyone.

“All of you!”

“Today, I have summoned you here to announce a matter of vital importance to our demon race’s future!”

“After consultation with the demon kings present, we have decided: as of today, the ‘Demon Alliance’ is officially established!”

“I, the Great Sage Equaling Heaven, Sun Wukong, assume the position of Alliance Lord!”

“The Great Sage Pacifying Heaven, Niu Mowang ; the Great Sage Subduing the Seas, Jiao Mowang … the Great Sage Controlling the Spirits, Yu Rong Wang—serve as Deputy Alliance Lords!”

“My brother Su Chen assumes the position of Alliance Advisor, assisting in managing all alliance affairs!”

Sun Wukong’s voice echoed through the valley.

The demons in the square froze for a moment, then, led by those who had been pre-arranged, erupted into thunderous cheers!

“Demon Alliance! Demon Alliance!”

“Great Sage Equaling Heaven!”

Yet, amid this wave of celebration, an discordant voice suddenly rang out.

“Wait!”

All turned to look, and saw a towering tiger demon clad in black armor, wielding a black iron staff, stride forward from the crowd.

“I have no objections to the Alliance Lord or Deputy Lords—but I object to the choice of Advisor!”

He slammed his black iron staff hard onto the ground, pointing at Su Chen and shouting loudly:

“Why should a mere human be made Advisor of our Demon Alliance!”
