Chapter 136

~6 min read 1,057 words

Not bad, so far everything has gone smoothly.

After struggling out of the rose bushes, Li Ang looked at the six-story rose-colored villa in the distance and nodded in satisfaction—he had successfully infiltrated the Rose Estate.

Although Redwood Avenue was a mess, crawling with people searching for him, thanks to the Black Goat’s Soul Vision, he merely took a slight detour and avoided them all.

The Rose Estate’s guards were no different; though the Massani family’s security was decent, he had the “full-map hack” active. Once the patrol passed, he simply walked through the woods, scaled two walls, and entered the heart of the Rose Estate.

Following Madame Lisa’s directions, all he needed to do now was circle around the central rose-colored main building, enter the four-story low building on the estate’s east wing, and rescue the target… Huh?

Seeing the numerous souls in his Soul Vision suddenly become chaotic, Li Ang frowned slightly—but before he could react, the estate’s alarm bell rang, and two blindingly bright xenon spotlights snapped on, like giant dance floor lasers, sweeping wildly toward the southwest corner of the rose garden.

It was daytime…

Watching the two spotlights clearly homing in on him, Li Ang’s expression darkened. If the Massani family didn’t host daytime parties, then his infiltration had been discovered—and thoroughly at that. They’d even pinpointed his approximate location.

“This way! This way!”

“Follow the lights!”

“Spread out! Maintain formation!”

“Don’t let him get away!”

Watching the souls rapidly approaching in his Soul Vision and hearing the growing clamor, Li Ang, his infiltration now failed, immediately weighed his next move.

Retreating… his current position was deep within the estate’s core, and the guards were still rushing toward the lights. If he turned back, he’d have to run a long distance—and straight into the densest encirclement.

Yet the straight-line distance to his target was only three or four hundred meters; at his top speed, he could cover it in under a minute and a half.

So he could just keep moving forward, dash through the main building, break in to rescue the target, then escape from the estate’s far side—this way he’d complete the mission and avoid the rushing guards… No time to waste—go!

In one second, he assessed the situation and decided to press forward. Li Ang burst out of the rose garden and sprinted toward the main building. Only a few breaths later, he reached its base.

“Crash!”

After shattering the window with the Holy Pendant, aided by the Parkour Badge, Li Ang leapt cleanly through the window into what appeared to be the kitchen. Before the stunned chefs could react, he smashed through the kitchen door, dashed down the corridor, and burst into the first-floor foyer.

“What’s going on?”

“What the hell?”

“What are you—ah!”

Ignoring the startled people, Li Ang maintained his speed through the foyer, kicked over a tall old man with a purple-black soul, then stormed into the opposite corridor, burst through a room likely used by maids, and shattered another window, leaping out amid the shrieks of several young female servants.

In roughly ten seconds, he tore straight through the main building, still sprinting toward the east wing’s low building, his grip tightening on the Holy Pendant.

“Boom!”

A violent explosion tore open the second-floor wall of the east wing building. The woman inside, trying to pick the lock, had barely time to scream before the intruder lunged in, slung her over his shoulder, and crashed out of the room with her.

“Ah!”

“Boom!”

“No!”

“Boom!”

“I’m gonna die!”

“Boom!”

Amid the woman’s screams on his shoulder, Li Ang smashed through four walls in succession.

He leapt down from the far side of the low building and plunged straight into the estate’s outer woods. Just seven or eight hundred meters ahead lay the estate’s outer fence.

Solid.

Carrying the woman forward a little further, he finally shook off every pursuer. Seeing the estate fence now within reach, Li Ang finally allowed himself a faint smile.

Good. Though things went sideways mid-mission, he’d escaped unscathed. All that remained was to return this Massani heiress to her family—his mission would be complete.

“Wait… wait a minute… uh…”

As Li Ang took a deep breath and pried open the iron gate, the woman slung over his shoulder finally came to from the frantic sprint.

Though she didn’t know Li Ang’s identity—even hadn’t seen his face—since he’d rescued her from the Rose Estate, he couldn’t be with the Massani family. He must be someone her father had sent.

After catching her breath and calming her churning stomach, the wealthy young lady—kidnapped during her move—pressed a hand to her mouth and gently patted Li Ang’s back.

“You… who are you?”

“…”

Right—he’d gone from stealth infiltration to outright demolition, and hadn’t even had time to explain he was sent by her father.

Glancing back at the Rose Estate, confirming no one could catch up in the short term, Li Ang set the woman down, steadied her as she reeled from dizziness, then spoke:

“I’m your father… Huh?”

Before he could finish, the woman vanished—replaced by a massive woman with enormous eyes and several bewildered old men.

Meanwhile, the group upstairs who’d witnessed Li Ang’s wild charge and finally decided to summon the Brown-Robed Woman were equally stunned by his bizarre “opening line.” Both sides fell into a brief, shared silence.

After a moment, the well-traveled Brown-Robed Woman recovered first. She smiled at this “promising” new Duke of Lionheart and extended her goodwill.

“I am the Hierarch of the Wealth Line of the Golden Scale Sect. You may call me…”

“Boom!”

As Li Ang reached out to stroke the Black Goat’s head, deciding whether these people were trustworthy, the moment he heard “Golden Scale Sect,” he didn’t hesitate a single second—he activated the Holy Pendant and blew her head into a pulpy mess.

So sudden was her death that her soul hadn’t even registered it—still floating dazedly in place, a giant question mark hovering above her purple-black soul.

Of course it wasn’t this simple. He’d walked into an ambush!

Though he didn’t know what exactly was going on, Li Ang had already killed a Golden Scale Sect Holy Soul—he’d long since made them mortal enemies. He turned his gaze to the other “disciples” around him and clenched the Holy Pendant again.
